Yeah I've felt like that before, when I used to play world of warcraft I used to force myself to complete boring daily quests just so that I could use the gold to pay for potions for raids that would be happening later. Even while raiding I was constantly stressed because I was the guilds' main tank which always put a lot of pressure on me.

I played the free MW2 weekend on Steam a while back. Can't say that those who haven't played it are missing much. I got thru one match and then i realized that it wasn't going to get any better.

Welcome to the club. I started gradually hating it a little bit at a time until I finally traded it in for BC2.

I have to say though, you're a bit of a late bloomer.

I think what you'll find is around 1/3 of the game's customer base has turned away from it. The remaining 2/3 only play casually, or they're 11 year-old squeaky chavs, who are really useful for nought other than biomass fuel.

Of course, there are exceptions! :D
You'll get the odd decent player every now and then :)

Picking up a rental package has been the way to go for me, I've been able to re-live old games and experience new ones - Lovefilm has been the best for me if you're interested.

This is why I stopped playing StarCraft and CounterStrike. Both were exactly like a second job - and were exhausting and frustrating because I simply never had the time to put in to get really, really good at either game.

Bizarrely, I now play Dawn of War II online, and don't mind losing to the same degree.

I loved the game. I thought it was better than MW1 in someways.

Granted I have never played multiplayer for either game, but you cant judge a game on the multiplayer alone.

Instead, I started playing through the Ratchet & Clank Games on my PS2. Turning robots into giant chickens and promptly blowing the shit out of them reminded me that video games WERE once fun. I've completed R&C 1-3 to 100% again.
Just as a side point, the R&C: Future series on PS3 is just as good as the PS2 games. Although my personal favourite R&C game is still 'Up Your Arsenal' on PS2.

I created a thread about something very similar to this a couple months ago, so I know how you feel (Though I didn't state that I hate the game, just that playing it had become too monotonous).

I pick it up every now and then, but my online fix mostly comes from Blazblue now.

The only time I really get bothered by the game is when I get too worried about killstreaks. I don't mind bad games, noob tubers, heck even campers. I play Ground War and dying a lot is just part of the game, so I don't get too broke up about it. Turn on Cold blooded so the killstreaks of others don't bother me and keep my own kill streaks at the low end so I don't get all pissed off if I die and I'm happy.

I also refused to prestige and have been sitting at 70 for a few weeks. I got bored of unlocking attachments for everything and decided to prestige again. There's something about being back as a noob with the first guns and having good games still that is fun.

I see where you are coming from, but when you come to "hate" a game that you used to enjoy playing, it just means you lost focus on what made it fun for you to begin with. I do play it less than I used to, but I start most gaming sessions with a round or two of MW2 before moving on to whatever other game has my fancy.

Eh. As someone who just started playing MW2 on the xbox, I must say good god I hate that game, but I still have fun with it. Having to unlock all those perks. weapons, and weapon attachments is just not fun (I think I'm level 7 atm) though I actually have been having some fun using marathon (unlimited sprint) stopping power (bullets do more damage) and steady aim. I just use the UMP45 SMG and run around the map killing people the proper way, and I've actually been having something resembling fun. Then I get spawn-killed by a Harrier, or knifed 5 times in a row, and I remember how horribly balanced this fucking game is, and that I should really play something else.
That. This is what I experience during my MW2-playing too, I can't get a proper killstreak or KDR because of spawnkills, campers and those Marathon, Lightweight and Commando-people.
Today I was playing on Rundown (Welcome to the Camping site), I got killed by a thermal sniper across the map, then I got Predator'd half a second after I spawned, knifed half a second after I spawned again and then Harrier'd half a second after spawn again.

MW2 feels like my second job because if I get bad scores in a game, I have to work it up again. And what's up with the Win/Loss ratio things, I'm playing well and have got a proper KDR, but still have a WL ratio of 0,4.
Oh, I remember, THE FUCKING SYSTEM THAT MAKES YOU JOIN LOSING GAMES HALF A SECOND BEFORE THEY END.
/rant

Protip: If you're using a shotgun as a secondary weapon, do not use Steady Aim, it makes the bulletspread smaller, meaning that it doesn't spread as much damage as it could've.

I like the non-tartarus parts in Persona 3, and actually dislike the combat... Does that count?

Oh! That reminds me *goes to play persona 3*

I had a similar moment, me and my team got thrashed and they were all mouthing off, i intervened going "If you're so angry at the game, claiming you hate it why don't we just play something else?" the answer i got was "because this is extremly addictive...SKIP"

Pretty honest answer and i can't disagree, the games annoying but addictive and some maps just need to be skipped!

Mostly I don't care about my stats and I don't understand people who get so worked up about their k/d ratios. Yes it is grind but if you play the game the way you want it is't so bad.

As soon as online gaming was invented i realized it was turning into serious competition rather than the relaxing fun it once was...

I've recently gotten out of Live (I'll go back for a couple of months to beat the crap out of some smug "hardcores" on Reach...but then I'll get bored again, and they'll have the min/max crap figured out and take all the fun out of it anyway). I've started a playthough of single player experiences I either loved, underrated, or missed the first time through. So, Majora's Mask (I just didn't recognize the brilliance of the level design and game mechanics when I was ten. This is now my favorite N64 game), Wind Waker (Loved it the first time, love it still. The Forsaken Fortress barrel/catapult scene cracks me up every time!), and afterwards--Metroid Prime (No idae why, but I got it for my birthday and never played it...)

it happened to me with red dead redemption, the game became more of a chore than fun
I thought I was the only one!
It was weird, I love it to death but after 10 minutes in Mexico it suddenly hit me that this game is quite a grind

OT: You're not the only one. I used to play Halo 3 and Cod4 religiously online until I realised the repetition setting in and since then I haven't been much of an online gamer, instead I've been playing things like Arkham Asylum, Ratchet & Clank and Dragon Age recently and it really is so much more relaxing
Although right now I'm starting to miss having Live Gold and so I might have to get it again. I still have MW2 on my PS3 and can never decide whether to sell it or not because I do like occasionally going back and playing online now and again. Although I've heard that Bad Company 2 is much better... sigh, it's all so complicated
Bad Company 2 is quite awesome.

OT: This happened to me with the original modern warfare. When i realized I was just playing purely for the score I quit and bought mass effect 1, which blew my mind.

I just picked up MW2, and I can see where you come from (Albeit, on PC)
I never cared about stats in games like this, so if I pull of a 20/10, great, if I pull a 5/20, I'm still not going to care. I just play how I want to, regardless if I suck doing it. =3

Although cliche, realize that it's just a game. The numbers(stats) don't count for anything. Grab a shield and some C4 and have some fun. Mess around a bit. Do things you wouldn't normally do and don't worry about your stats.
I quite often run around with the Shield, I never get a good score but it makes me giggle knowing that someone is going to get pissed off trying to kill me. ^.^

That and being able to completely soak up the threat from the Jet/Chopper killstreaks so team mates don't get killed several times over is fun!

I hated the grind, but now I just mute everybody, refuse to prestige, and use whatever weapons I want to. I'll noob tube, snipe, or spray and pray and nobody on there can tell me not to. Yeah, glitches get annoying, but I found my own way to enjoy the game, so I'm happy with it.
Pretty much this!
While I don't tube (I can't aim them for the life of me =s) I pretty much do as I please ingame.

It's practically grinding in disguise.
It IS grinding in disguise. There is no other way to level other than killing people.
At least with Battlefield you can level by supporting other players.

Some people like the grinding though.
There was a disguise involved? o_O
It looked pretty obvious to me.

Also, you do get exp for using the shield. Both from absorbing bullets and assists (From being a distraction, so fun)

I've had that experience, I bought MW2 to play with friends thinking I'd like it to SOME degree. But I don't, they say team deathmatch but there's no team work at all, you're just shooting at half the people on the map instead.

There's no teamwork period. I won't compare it against it's biggest competitor BC2, but let's use TF2. In TF2 you have assault classes, sneaking classes and support classes, all of which make for great teamwork because you can have people helping others like recovering health, building an assault. TF2 you can be a medic and heal, be a pyro and keep people from getting stabbed or reflecting rockets. While none of this is realistc there could still be medics who assist in the game by giving stim packs, reviving a teammate and more.

In MW2, it's run out, die, run out die, or camp whatever you'd like to say you/they do. There's no teamwork in that game because because your instakilled so you're fairly limited to Jeff was shot from the left, so there's a guy there, let's go shoot him. Well in reality you're sitting next to Jeff when suddenly you're hit by a noobtube and any plan is out the window. This is where you respawn into the gunfire of an AC-130, now you hide inside while the enemy team does the same thing waiting for you to run in and shoot you.
