so long story short me and my mother got into an argument because i have not added her as a friend on facebook and because of this she wants to take away my internet. She argues that i dont love her anymore and that i shouldn't say anything on facebook i dont want her to see, i counter with i do love you and i am allowed to speak freely with out fear of punishment i went on to ask her if she had ever kept a secret from me she replied by staring at me and then walking out of the room. So escapist do you think i should allow her on my facebook? or should i be allowed to speak freely with out fear of punishment?
oh and i am 16

It'd be a nice thing to do, as it must mean a lot to her, but her threatening to take away your internet for refusing it is a bit much.

i have a similar problem, but i guess i just get around it by not saying things about my parents on facebook, and the fact that there are few photos of me on there anyways, so i have nothing incriminating. Still, parental involvement in one's facebook annoys the hell outta me. I say, do what you will, just try not to do anything stupid

add her but limit what she can see of your account and activities, that way you get to keep your interwebz and you've added her as a friend in facebook. No offence but that sounds like a ridiculous reason to take away your internet, like facebook really matters that much.

I declined my mothers request on Facebook, my personnal life is none of her business. She sees enough of me at home, she doesn't need to keep tabs on me at home.

As far as I am aware though, if you must add her, put her in a group or something, you can group your friends ie work friends, school friends etc. But you can change the permissions for what each of the groups can actually see. So if you don't want your mom looking at pics of you or getting your status update in her feed then she wont.

If done right then it will look like you barely use facebook, or at least don't have much content on your page. Say all you use it for is talking to your friends in chat etc.

I would try it with a friend or a dud profile first maybe so you can be sure it works properly. But its still a work around since you mother is a woman and thereefore will not shut up about it or forget about it.

uh, well you do have the option of a limited profile, and you really shouldn't put things on facebook you don't want others to see. Dude you mom might be overreacting, but dont write her off, love partly means that you do things you dont want to do.

...Add your mom and then make it so she can't see anything of yours. Or, tell your mom off and buy a Bell Mifi or whatever the hell those things are so you can have your own internet wherever you go

Just add her as a friend then tell your mates not to say anything that will get you in trouble, in all fairness most people have their parents on facebook its no big deal...

Taking away the whole internet over this seems rather silly.

But dude, just add her. She's your mom. It'll mean a lot to her. Just talk privately with your friends or something.

You can do that on facebook, right? I don't use the site. Mainly for this reason and a few others.

And is it just me, or is anyone else reminded of that South Park episode?

You should seriously sit down with your mum and talk this out. Seriously, all the common sense in the world is on your side. She must realize that "being a friend on facebook" is very different from "being a mother". Not only that, but if she has any perspective she'll know that you think about her and treat her very differently from your friends, but that doesn't make her any less important in your life.

Christ, I can't believe you even need to argue this case.
i tried to argue that i told her that she is my mother and i love her but i should be entitled to keep somethings private but my mom is still bent on having me add her
