I like the way you think and act. I've been working in filming and publicity for almost four years, an industry known for making quite some money but also for wasting absurd ammounts of it on everyday stuff.
Example: What?! are you using X stuff to clean that light/monitor/case/grip/cable etc? You have to use Z stuff, it's reccomended by this or that company!... and it costs five times more despite being the same stuff you use to clean your car's windshield (probably water and very little liquid soap). And the "Pro" filming/audio recording gear (not the cameras or any useful apparatus). Eg: $20 a-meter cables or "special" pencils for marking stuff on tapes, nothing a cheap-ass pen can't do, but people feel it's ok to pay exorbitant prices for them because thay feel better when using them, "because they are pros".
So, the same applies to editing rigs, people who use Windows or Linux PC's and for example the Adobe Video Editing bundle or about any Audio-editing software KNOW they work just as well as Mac's Final Cut and whatever they sell for audio, if not better. Despite this, Apple sells ginormous ammounts of Macs to Video and Sound editors. Some claim they can handle files better and that they work better overall. Bullshit, Macs have the same problems as PCs and break down like any other computer, and when they do, stuff gets messy.
Want this thing fixed? That's going to be a lot more! Despite Mac's being the same as PCs inside.
I say people are just oblivious about what's inside a Mac and that all PCs can run OSX at just a fraction of the price of a Mac, they just want things now and don't want to know about problems, money solves that, aslo, some like them just for the "prestige" apple products carry (I like the Ipod classic, I'm not gonna lie, miss you buddy
).
Back to the show, if you get the money a top Video-editing iMac costs and buy a PC you would get a PC that would blow all iMacs out of the water. Mac Pros just seem a bit ridiculous to me, they look fantastic, but I just cannot think what could make me throw $5000 on an overpriced PC, the hardware and software architecture is still limiting it's power like on any other PC, they are just way too much. I'm looking at the Pro's site right now, it laughable. The description they make on how easy to access the interior of the Mac is is just hilarious. "...No rat?s nest of components here. You don?t need to turn the system on its side or struggle to reach into awkward spaces to make changes. Just remove the side panel for instant access to everything..." So, just about the same as my PC, I have never had to go to a circus for getting someone with extra felxibility to help me with it's maintenance. And you don't need to turn the Pro on it's side because you won't be messing with the machine, let the guys at the store take care of that...
Every computer-savvy person I know knows about this mac scam and wouldn't get a mac no-matter-what. Macs are just a brand, they cost more without being better in general, that's it.
