Good news for my game: I have enough Trap's to get a Tier 3 weapons for each character.
Bad news: I'm now a few million gil short of being able to actually upgrade character's weapons to get to that point.
Man! I have the Tier 2 weapons at level 41, raring to go... but no trapezohedrons as of yet.

Working on it though ;)
That just sounds insane to me. How do you even get that high? Granted, I'm only 16 hours in the game, but I have a total of 3000 gil and have bought nothing so far. Do you farm gil somehow to be able to afford thousands and thousands of materials? Or do you just grind them?
Grind. I saving my gil for a trapezohedron (they are 2 million gil each)
Hah. I think I'll skip the optional content then, I just finished Dragon Quest 8 two weeks ago, I'm all grinded out for the year 2010.

There is a method of getting 3 traps for the price of one, using Dismantle with a few of Fang/Vanille's fully mastered Tier 3 weapons. The Mistletenin (spellinglol) staff for Vanille is one which dismantles into 3 Traps, among other things.
Yeah, but I still need 1 Trap first... That's where I'm at.

I should soon be able to kill the Adamantoises who drop them. Until then, I am grinding the Adamanchelids for Gold Dust. Maybe with enough Gold Dust I can make the 2 million necessary for the first Trap.

I think Kain's Lance is another dismantle for Traps (I remember reading that somewhere)
All Tier 3 weapons are called the same (character specific). Lightning's are always Omega Weapon, Vanille's are always Nirvana and Fang's are always Kain's Lance. It depends on what base weapon you use to get to that point, as even though they're called the same, different base weapons give different Tier 3 weapons.

Confusing, aye.

You really don't want to be buying Traps. Best to save your gil for the actual upgrades. If you've got Death with Vanille (around Role Level 4 with SAB) you can kill the Oretoises. I run a SAB/SAB/SYN setup with Vanille as my main. Enter Battle->Summon Eidolon->Go straight for Gestalt and Overdrive->Laugh at Vanille's orgasm noise->Spam Death with Vanille while your other SAB (I used Fang) spams debuffs to increase the chance of it hitting. You'll always want the Belladonna/Marlboro Wand for Van as it increases debuff chance.

Sometimes it'll fail and the Oretoise will kill you, but that's fine, just hit retry and go again. Eventually it'll start hitting.

For the tier 2 stuff, it's not so bad. You can get that by just playing through the main campaign.

It's the tier 3 stuff that's more of an issue. But even then, you have over 60 hunting side quests to ease the grinding burden.
I have a question, why do all that? Are they just there as time wasters or is there some uber cool uber hard boss waiting in the end of it all, like Yiazmat in FFXII? If so, I might be tempted.

I'm pretty far into 13 and I still don't understand where all the hate is coming from.

To each their own, i suppose. I'm loving the gameplay, the storyline, the characterization (the way the characters are built is great; I would like something a little more solid for Vanilla [god damn she is annoying!], but maybe I'll get that a little further in the game).

It's not FF6, or 7, or 9, or what-have-you. It's pretty standalone, and beautiful, to me :).
And no I'm not a diehard fangirl of FF. I enjoy the franchise, but there have been FF's I've disliked. :D.

I'm 13 hours in at the moment, and I'm having a blast. I admit it is somewhat annoying not to be able to choose my party, and I haven't even gotten to play as fang yet at all, but having everyone split up really adds to the story in my opinion. Yeah, they all got turned into l'cie, but that doesn't magically make them all have a fantastic friendship right off the bat. They've got to figure things out, decide what they need to do and why.

Lightning (so far) is shaping up to be my favorite main character of any FF game. I can completely understand her actions and motivation. Although I hated Hope and Vanille at first, they are starting to grow on me. Hope looks like he is about to turn into a mini-Lightning soon, and I'm just now starting to see through cracks in Vanille's "I'm always really really ridiculously happy" facade. All her orgasms are still annoying though.

Snow has some stupid moments, but again, I can understand why he is acting the way he is. Too many past characters have done things seemingly because they just have to for the story to progress, but now it's like everyone's actions actually make sense. Although I am still trying to figure out what's going on with Fang and Cid.

Oh, and on that note. I remember reading reviews where people said they were always confused about what was going on. That's another reason I'm enjoying this, because the game is actually conducive to thought. You have to make an effort to understand what is going on rather than something like "bad guy kidnapped princess, rescue princess GO GO!".

The battle system is quite nice, in my opinion. I see people complain about the whole auto-battle thing, but you don't even have to use it. Paradigm shifts are interesting, and to be honest it is a nice change from having to worry about mana and a dedicated healer/mage in the party that can't do anything else. I see lots of people complaining that the game plays itself for you, but so far it actually requires plenty of player input. FF 12 was the game that played itself for you (lol gambits).

In regards to the linearity, I have no problem with it. If I want to play an open-game with the focus not on the main story, I'll play Morrowind or Oblivion (although I did like the story in those games too to be honest :p).

TL;DR - I like it as of 13 hours in. While that may change, I doubt it.

Isn't her real name Eclair?
Éclair in the Japanese version (which was why early sources had it as Éclair) but Claire in the English translation.

Gah, is this going to be another Aeris/Aerith issue?
Not for me. Claire in my eyes, but mostly because I associated Éclair with the character from Kiddy Grade [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiddy_Grade] and its sequel.

Others...can't say. Might be though.

You do know that it's the same no matter how you spell Aerith right?

In Japanese, "TH" is pronounced like an "S" sound. They just localized it for Western audiences. The spelling is Aerith, but it's pronounced Aeris.
I do, but a lot of fans have issue with the spelling, and some also say the two differently since they are reading it with English pronunciation.

I'm 10 chapters in and i feel like i'm playing "Home & Away--- the Game". They are all so WHINEY and Snow needs to shut up with his daft Tidus gestures (FFX) and his "Sarah waaaaaa!".

I seem to only be playing the game because I purchased it... not due to enjoying it. Shame really!

Final Fantasy have done this for ages, at least since 6 they have a moment where they turn to each other and say 'you go on ahead, we'll catch up' or 'you scout out this area, we'll go this way' and then you have to play either as the team you choose once, but everyone you left behind drops back in levelling like crazy, or you have to play both in the ultimate expression of dullness and padding.

I just kinda accept it as something which happens during Final Fantasy games, and as long as it doesn't spill into other genres I'm alright. (so oddly, while I find it annoying but bearable in FF, it was one of my major grievances with Gears of War.)
