My PS3 was Stolen!

Yesterday at 12:30pm, I was out working at my job, I get this strange text message from my sister. It said
"Hey. Someone broke in the house. Ur playstation is gone"

So I call up home and they tell me the story. The window is broken in and my room has a lock, and the door was kicked in. I got home about 30 minutes later, the police officer, who was very cool and admired my PC gaming setup, was still at my house dusting for prints.

I looked through everything and found out I was indeed missing my PS3, one of my DualShock3 controllers, my official PS3 bluetooth earpiece headset, and 200 dollars cash I had stashed in my drawer. Retail valued over 700 dollars, all bought brand new. I went to Sony's website and changed my password and removed my credit card billing information from the PS3 right away. I found the original receipt of the PS3 that I bought at Best Buy in May 2008. It had the serial number on it. I gave that to the police officer to help him track my stolen property down.

I asked some neighbors if they saw anyone and someone saw 2 black guys hanging out in front of my house that morning before everyone had left the house empty for an hour and a half. We believe they were either waiting for everyone to leave or they just took the opportunity. Anyway, the neighbor reocgnized one of them and gave us a name, we gave that to the Police. the name is "Shakespeare Jasmine"

The only relief is that the robbers didn't break any random stuff or touch my gaming PC, which I have poured thousands of dollars and many hours building. The only things broken was the window and the kicked in locked doors. And when they snatched the PS3, they took the time to collect its power cord, but they left the HDMI cable here.

I called Brinks home security and they are coming out this morning to activate my alarm system on the house. We've been here for 2 and a half years without incident, but I don't feel safe anymore. I already had to board up the broken window and patch up the broken fence in the backyard, which is how they got access to the back window.

no way
that kind of sucks, though I think you got pretty lucky they took the PS3 and not the PC.
Hope it's found soon, good luck.

They took the time to take a few hundred dollar PS3, but not a powerful PC. That means they were desperate to play the PS3...
Must have been Drakes Fortune then.

I just needed to tell someone for my own sanity.

Oh and they didn't touch none of my game collection. I have about 6 PS3 games and 10 bluray movies. Oh and I have a Nintendo Wii which is right next to the PS3, which was undisturbed.

At least they didn't take your games.

Same thing happened to me back in June. I made a thread of it too. My first thread actually.

Anyway, that sucks. I hope you get your stuff back. The guys who broke in my house got lucky and didn't get caught.

By the way, what the fuck kind of name is "Shakespear Jasmine?"

Unless they're stupid enough to try and sell it to a pawn shop, you'd be better off forgetting about this, you'll probably never see your stuff again :\

That sucks, man.
Hopefully, the police will do their job and catch them. But it sounds like your PS3 is lost forever.

The reason why the PC wasn't stolen was because it weighs 8 times more, and can't be carried away descretely, and probably isn't easy to sell on eBay.

Judging by the fact that they didn't take any of the games, they're either idiots looking to make a dishonest buck, or selfish bastards who wanted to play 50 cent games without spending $400.

I came home from a New Years day out - had been out since about seven the night before for the New Year's Eve revelries, crashed the night on the bro-in-laws couch and then went out for a walk on the moors to clear my head with the in-laws, so the house had been empty a good twenty-five hours, and heard a noise in my kitchen as I stepped through the front door.

Didn't notice the HTPC under the telly that doubled as my home server at the time was switched off - nor the gaping hole in the unit beneath it where my xbox should've been - went through to the kitchen to find a window missing - missing! not smashed, not forced open - they'd popped the sidings off and simply removed the pane, according to the forensics cop who dusted it for prints it'd been put in the wrong way round.

Luckily as I'd disturbed them they'd left everything bagged up in my backyard and simply bolted - had my xbox, both pads, few games, ps2 pads and games and my spare change jar?!?

So, except the silver fingerprint dust on my PS2 it's not so bad right? As it's New Years Day around 8pm there's nowhere to buy anything to board the window up and I had nothing to use so had to use the "Polce appointed" call out guy - £500!!

It's like I'd been robbed and then got bent over!

Not to mention the £3k in new windows to replace the crap that'd been fitted the wrong way round and had me burgled in the first place.

Been about five years now and still don't feel right, took a couple of months before I could sleep right without thinking about every sound I heard - I don't think you ever get that sense of security back, that innocence.

If I could get my hands on them I'd like to return the feeling - never caught though, no prints, wore gloves, cops couldn't be bothered to follow-up more than that.

[edit]

Guessing games consoles are popular targets as easy to sell down the pub to make a few quid and buy drugs or whatever it is that keeps these retards happy.

Huh. At least they have taste.

In all seriousness, I think it's some damn stupid robbers who decide to rob a house, ignoring valuable property and leaving behind something as key as the HDMI cable and their own fingerprints. Also, having a name as distinctive as "Shakespeare Jasmine". Thaere's got to be, what? Two in the whole world? Although Shakespeare is not a first name, I'm imagining their parents picking something "classy" like Shakespeare, unaware of the William in front of it.

This is why I have a 360. Nobody can be bothered carrying it. But yeah, it sucks that you got robbed. And what kind of name is Shakespeare?

im guessing they didnt know you, they would have known you had an awesome pc if you did. but since there were only two of them (possibly) they could only take the ps3 and cash because if they knew you had the pc they would have come prepared to take that.

Geez, that sucks. I'm sorry for your loss, there's not a lot we can do about it but my suggestion is buying a Baseball bat or a club of some sort and putting nails in it. Maybe even keep a machete under your bed for night time break ins.

I hope you get it back soon.
