my school has implemented a "no bark" policy so that freshmen dont get barked at... and now they make the kids do extended homeroom so they can have a "bully circle" where kids are encouraged to talk about incidences of bullying, but from what i've heard these sessions are treated as jokes by students, is it just me or did anyone else's school not give two shits when people were getting bullied before, but now cause some people have killed themselves its like some huge, unknown terror that has swept the nation.
lets be honest with ourselves now, bullying is a fact of life, always has, always will be. ill be the first to tell you that it sucks, all through middle school i was ridiculed for liking 40K, but then i kicked the shit out of one of the guys that was picking on me, and i never got trouble from them again. i think the problem today is that we arent telling kids to stand up for themselves enough, it's always "tell an adult" or telling bystanders to "step in if you see bullying happening". personally, i think the message should be "stand up for yourself in whatever way is necessary", because they not only do you stop bullying, you also empower the children who are getting bullied to do something about "hands on" shall we say...
