The Mayan calender ends on December 21st 2012, or sometime close to that, tha Mayan calendar was made before the white man stepped foot in the Western Hemisphere, maybe the Mayans realised the calendar they made was going to hold them over for about 600 years and they decided to stop adding days they would never see.

Think about it, are you buying calendars for 2611 yet? What do you guys think, I think its all shit, but for the sake of discussion lemme know what you think will occur in 2012.

EDIT: I know this have been done a thousand times but I was really bored last night.

Umm... It was when they predicted their reign would end, and someone else would take over, it had nothing to do with the world ending, etc. XD

The world -might- end/change rapidly in 2060, Einstein predicted that's about the time in which time travel will be possible, and Issac Newton was convinced that's when the world would end.

Seems to be alot of convsertaion about this in and out of the Escpaist... *looks at Calander* its only 2011 though...

But I said this back in 2009 and I'll say it again If ANYTHING happens on DEC 21st 2012 It will be manmade chaos and if nothing happens (which I believe nothing will) that means we will finannly stop hearing the Doomsday theories and panic YAY!!!!!!!!!!

Marter has a point. Man has just been itching to see itself wiped off the face of the Earth.

That being said, I really do think that nothing will happen. If anything it probably meant the end of an age, y'know like the chinese calender. Maybe after 2012 it'll be the age of the..uhh..well I dunno, The Toucan?

When it comes I'm going to have a lawn chair on my drive way eating Granny Smith Apples. One of two things will happen, I can enjoy dooms day in style with Granny Smith Apples or I can enjoy a normal day with Granny Smith Apples.

I'm in the same boat as most, I don't believe anything is going to happen and even if it does there's nothing I can do to stop it so, meh.

Dear all retards of the world:
1. The theory is around all the planets alining and then somehow that makes magic and we die. They disproved that by watching a sim were they had the planets just go in normal orbit and it didnt turn out they they said.
2. If you can not predict a spot on week weather forecast then you can not predict when the world ends.
Thank you retards for reading this so please shut up now.

Threads like this will stop appearing, which will be wonderful for all mankind.

Also, if the Mayans knew shit about shit, they would have ended their calendar in 1697 when the Spanish handed to them their ass on a plate.

It's happening all over again...During the cold war every1 was terrified and thought the world will be blasted with nukes and everything will die...and then the ones who believed in Nostradamus' power of clairvoyance we're thinking the world would end as we entered the year 2000...and now this...just bcuz they found a calendar that stopped at a certain date they go "OMGWTF!!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!"...all just bcuz an ancient civilization made a calendar that has an end date(ZOMG WE'LL NOW DIE AT DEC 31 2011!!)...mind you ...mayans...the civilization that poisoned its own water supply with decapitated bodies as offerings to they're gods...

The Jewish calendar has a similar thing call "Aharit Hayamim")http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End_time( (the end of days, a.k.a. "doomsday") and each time they reach the appropriate date on the Jewish calendar and nothing happens they just move the date forward claiming a calculation error.

Aw, not this thing again!

The Mayan calendar does not predict the end of the world on Dec 12th 2012.

1. The exact date of the end of the current Mayan Long Count is still a matter of debate amongst Mayan scholars, although it is likely to be around Dec 21 2012.

2. The Mayan calendar is cyclical, and there are names for cycles longer than 13 bactuns (The name for a Mayan epoch apparently translates as 13 bactuns, which is about 5125.26 years) of the Long Count which are coming to an end in 2012.

Even if the Mayans did believe that the world would come to an end at the end of the Long Count (which I don't believe is true), there is no reason to assume that they have any special knowledge which would allow them to make this prediction correctly. You are free to believe the Sun won't come up tomorrow, but it will anyway....

I don't think anything is gonna happen but... I would laugh if 2012 turned out to be exactly like the movie 2012.

That makes quite a bit of sense.

I thought it was all bull shirt. However, Sarah Palin keeps hinting that she will run for president in 2012.

Pretty sure that is a sign of, if not the cause of, the apocalypse.

And they've already reset it like 6 times. The whole idea is fucking stupid anyway, why should less technologically advanced people somehow know when the world is going to end.

It's not a doomsday prophecy for the love of God. It's a telling that "great change" will befall humanity in 2012. Great change does not equal the end of the earth.

Seriously. Read it.

Recently researchers noticed the sun was doing things that it had never done before. Most researchers decided to ignore the changes. One of the key points that 2012 an awakening suggests is that global warming is a fraud and that the earth has been having cycles like this since the beginning of our existence. Mars and other planets have been warming up at the same rate as earth, which means that our earth?s warming isn?t because of global warming. We are currently ending a cycle that happens every 1,872,000 days this cycle was known as the great cycle by the Mayan people. Scientists have found that the last known great cycle happened on Aug 11th 3114 BC so they calculated that the next great cycle would take place on the 21st of December 2012. Most people think that the 2012 catastrophe is supposed to happen on the first day of 2012 but it is actually supposed to happen on the 21st of Dec 2012 meaning that nothing is supposed to happen until the end of 2012. The most interesting part of 2012 an awakening is that they discovered what is actually supposed to happen at the end of the cycle, Movies like 2012 starring John Cusack often depict 2012 as a random catastrophe where everybody dies. The earth isn?t actually going to break in half or something during 2012 it is actually supposed to go through a change where the magnetic shield around the planet drops and the earth could actually turn around. Right now the earth spins at a 360 degree angle all the time but at the end of a great cycle the earth is supposed to turn around and spin in the opposite direction. When the shield drops the worst thing that could happen would be solar flares from the sun turning off electric grids and when the earth spins in the other direction the worst thing that could happen would be a record amount of tsunamis. Either way the earth won?t explode, people will still exist and we won?t need space ships to escape our own planet. Overall the human race can?t and won?t be wiped out by 2012. Also when the earth turns around our perception of time will supposedly change and or slow down.

As someone else said (I think it was Pirate Kitty): My calendar this year ends on the 31st December 2011. So?

The Mayans just stopped doing the dates at that point, I'm sure if they'd have made it closer to the time they'd have added a few more years.
