if you want to avoid these sorts of incidents all together, do what someone else said and install frequently used games on your hard drive. If you don't have a large hard drive, they're worth the investment for this ability alone
I install every game I play. There are several reasons why it's a good idea.. For one, the discs only move when you start up your system, so any sort of movement of your xbox will not result in destroying your discs.. for another, if you get a game with bad sectors, most of the time installing the game can actually bypass some of the bad parts.. Xmen Origins wolverine for instance, playing from the disc, I couldn't see the FMV sequences on the disc I was using. After installing it, I had no trouble. One of the major "Broken 360" bugs is the OTE, or Open Tray Error. It's caused by a misalignment in your dvd drive's laser.. playing from the hard drive limits wear on your DVD drive, allowing your system to remain useable for a lot longer..
Plus, it's a lot quieter, reduces heat in your system (potentially reducing RRoD risks), and probably even lowers power consumption of the machine (although honestly, I can't know that for sure, but logically, it SHOULD).
And all that for a 10 minute investment in the beginning, and 4-8GB on your Hard Drive.
