I highly doubt it would be an alien ship, or ship of any kind. besides, if it was alien, that it would be almost certainly so far different from what we would think it is that we as a race could not comprehend it even if we did get a clear image.

its bull that someones trying to say its mercury, someone always has a convieniently bs explination.
They're saying that it's the wake caused by it moving through the matter on its normal orbit. Much like when a ship moves through the water, the wake displaced by the moving bow eventually rushes back together in a sort of eddy, much like the matter here is. Not to trample all over your beliefs, but what I'd like to know is why the creator of a three-minute Youtube video somehow holds more sway to you than an institution that has been at pretty much the forefront of astronomical research for the past fifty years.

Also, Odin*
i see your point but it just seems like some explanations are so singular and convenient that i get a few suspicions. and oden is a proper way to spell it. its either othin oden or odin or if you want to get specific ygg, it depends on the dialect and the region

So, do I believe some random guy on youtube talking about aliens or some actual scientist who knows what he's talking about?
I think the answer is obvious.

If it really was and Bioware had based their video games off of some fact of how the universe really is because they are secretly Asari (or some other Citadel race) that are trying to gradually introduce us to the rest of the galaxy, I would probably cry tears of joy for a month straight.

Does anyone here realize how big a Mercury is?

http://www.rense.com/1.imagesH/13db9ddd.jpg

Smaller than Earth, yes. But that "spaceship" you see in the video? That thing is the width of a whole Mercury. As in, it's a plznet-sized ship. As in, it's so massive, it would blacken the sky over whatever entire country it chose, just by de-cloaking in orbit over it. Either these are beings so huge, they could be seen walking on the surface of Mercury if we just bothered to point our telescopes there, or they built a spaceship capable of housing BILLIONS of inhabitants. Just... try and wrap your head around that. Insanity.

This is some crazy guy spouting whatever he thinks, because he saw a shape on there. I'm more inclined to believe the people who have been doing this stuff all their lives. I can only imagine the amount of facepalm they're experiencing right now, seeing people's reactions over this. Assuming they really were talking out their asses and covering this up so as not to panic people, there's probably a 95% chance this isn't sentient life or even an actual object. The bounds of physics and science go far beyond what we know, so perhaps there's an answer to this odd phenomenon somewhere out there. But I'm more inclined to believe it's MAGIC than ALIENS.

"It's cylindrical on either side and has a shape in the middle. It definitely looks like a ship to me, and very obviously, it's cloaked,"
Ah yes. Because he would know what a ship looks like.

i have to say, im kinda leaning more to the "its a ship" side
So instead of going with the rational explanation you are going with whatever you imagine? I have to say, go with the people who work with the damned camera everyday. You are otherwise like a peasant attributing some natural phenomena to witches and evil spirits. If you walked into your doctor's office and declared "I have a broken leg, I demand you shake a rattle at it immediately." he would ask you to wait for a moment before returning with security. Most of us would feel foolish for even imagining we knew more than an expert in person, but here on the internet people do it so readily. It's quite perplexing.

As much as I trust the word of renowned astrophysicist SiniXster I'm going to have to say no, I'm not buying it.

What I posted on that video:

1. Go to the SECCHI website
2. Select HI1, SECCHI-A, any resolution, and 9 days
3. Watch the animation
Look at all that stuff around (what I assume is) Mercury.

Well if Mercury suddenly disappears then we know the planet jackers are on their way and we're screwed. Really though, people are starting to become so obsessed with the idea of aliens that they're willing to fully believe any strange thing seen in space has to be alien. I'm gonna say it's Mercury.

The guys at the Naval Research Lab, you know, that ones that actually interpret these types of images say that its an after image of the planet itself, caused by the way they enhance the image data so they can see objects that would normally be overpowered by glare from the nearby star.

As badass as it would be to believe that there is a 4900 kilometer wide, cloaked spaceship orbiting our sun...I tend to believe the experts at the NRL that say its just a by product of their imaging process.

It's a ship. It's so obviously a ship. In the youtube clip they even bring up that the government tried to buy the movie from him and put watermarks and stuff on it. I don't think they would bother with this thing if it wasn't something important. I mean they haven't bothered with any of the other thousands of conspiracy pictures and movies before now, have they?
