Jashiki, ocean, 12/15AP

Floating in the ocean and listening to the prayers being offered up in his name Jashiki goes over them slowly and thinks back over the last few months. Other than the massive influx of prayers about the fake dead emperor the biggest one was from the Ray-Das about lowering food gathering and some wishing for a return of their old powers or change from the old gods.

Turning to the Ray-Das and moving to their city Jashiki sits on the wall overlooking the ships and watch's the fishing boats come in and go out. While they seemed to be pulling in at least half full holds of fish the amount of food only seemed to barely cover the population of the city and surrounding area. Listening to the city he turns his head into the city as he hears a parent start telling their little kids about the old gods and their gifts, and their new god and his gifts.
~
Cor-Jar, Home
Sitting on one of her kids bed she looks between her kids as she tells them their bedtime story.

"Long ago Trank-Mosta found us and watched over us. His hand was over our ships as they sailed and in front of our warriors as they fought. he gave our ancestors the ability to change into animals to protect ourselves and better watch our enemy's and those we would raid."

Here Cor-Jar turns into a wolf and paces around her kids bed a few times before turning back and sitting down again. Smiling at her kids wide eyes looks and wigglings he shush them as they ask her how to do that.

"Many century's later Trank-Mosta had moved on to another realm and was looking after others who needed him more than the now strong and set Ray-Das. Then a year and a half ago he sent his son to look after his dear and favorite children. You both remember when he showed himself at our festival and gave us our new ships. He watched over us and when the great wave hit us to test us we showed our devotion and resolve by going out and raiding the people of wings. Ber-Sam went with them and they brought in food and treasure from all the border lands, but Ber-Sam lost her life there as did many other of our brave commanders. But even that did not stop our warriors from taking treasures in Jas-Hiki's name, bringing them back to our great city and spreading it among those who needed it. In response to our warriors showing their spirit and might Jas-Hiki gave us the power to move the water we use for so many things."

Bringing her finger to her lips Cor-Jar lifts her shirt and shows her kids a small bright blue rain drop on her waist. Her kids gasp and out their hands over their mouth as they stare at the mark that shows their mother was blesses by Jas-Hiki and could move water. As they stare silently at their mother she puts her shirt back down and tucks her youngest into bed.

"And if your good children than someday you to may also be chosen to serve the ships or Jas-Hiki in some way."
~
Sitting with his legs hanging over the side of the wall and looking out over the city Jashiki thinks over the story he had just listened to. While he is not in fact Trank-Mosta son he is willing to be called it because it made it easier for those behind him to trust and pray to him. Looking down at the fishing ships again he stands and closes his eyes as he goes over what he could do. Smiling suddenly and raising his hands he reach's out and touch's the ability some of the Ray-Das still had to change, looking over that ability and copying it he expands it and adds several other animals to it. Then letting his power move into the air in front of him it fly's out, 100 threads flying out towards his island the rest go out around him and touch 400 hunters and fisherman and warriors. When all the threads are touching someone Jashiki push's his power down the threads and tries to give them the power to become druids.

Difficulty: 9 Cost: 3AP +4, most of the transformations are water exclusive, +2 letting them change into something else.
- Place or remove a blessing/curse on a large group of humans (500) with permanent, ongoing effects.
Slack-Lash, master fisherman and boatman.
Hak-Dan, master hunter and farmer.
Dalp-Lam, leading the expedition.
All 30 benders in bender village, 69 other people in the Ray-Das expedition.
200 fisherman.
100 hunters.
100 warriors.

Druids
druids have the ability to change into 6 different things.
Shark, Squid, Eagle, Brown Bear, large Snake(constrictor, not poisonous), Crocodile.
those with this power get red marks on their skin like scalding water had been poured on both of their arms. Causing red areas of skin in waves and swirls, they don't hurt but they are very visible to anyone looking.

On the belly or chest will be a red outline of an animal, one of the 6 they can turn into, for the purpose of transformation they can use the animal outlined the same as being human.

they have to be human to change into one of them, meaning of someone is a shark he has to go back to human to turn into a dolphin. Or any other of the combinations in that set.

Their body's consume 3 times more energy than a normal one does so they need to eat 3 times more. What they eat while in their animal forms counts towards that.

Cyth'Raul and Lysei

Cyth'raul stopped writing. It would be rather amusing to have the water god as a pet and thankfully, there were no clauses about the use of him. Cyth'raul simply nodded and extended a hand, "Yes, the terms are fair. Shall we shake on them?"

Lysei nodded and stuck out his hand. "We should act immediately then. He won't stand much of a chance I don't think."

It was a good, firm handshake. The Pactforger then simply scribbled something in the book and with a snap of the fingers, it was gone. To Lysei's words was the reply, "Of course, we outnumber him. Lead the way."

Lysei turned to Gangari, and the god felt around the world and through the Ether to see Jashiki, after a moment he pointed in his direction and attempted to imprint the location of the god into the others minds. He himself was spent by the experience, something about this world made it feel as if he was limited by the seasons. So he shook Lysei's hand and walked away to leave them to their work.

The presence of gods in this world was impossible to hide. Once revealed, it was simply a matter of calming himself for a brief moment. With Gangari and Cyth'raul behind him, Lysei located Jikashi and without words conjured a massive broadsword and struck the god of water with it.

Cyth'raul joined in the attack, wrapping ethereal chains around Jashiki then with clench of the fist, they tightened. Whispers poured into the water god's mind, speaking of how he was utterly outnumbered, how he had no chance of winning the god-battle, and how everything will be alright if he submitted completely. Just one simple relinquishment of will and all attacks would stop.

"You have wronged." The Tutelary of Treaties said to Jashiki, "Come, let me show you the right path, let me guide you..."
Gangari: Find Jikashi
Lysei and Cyth: Attack Jikashi, total of +8 attack on the god.

Hall of Raptors

Winter had begun to thaw and the feelings of war came with it. Aerya had a hard time keeping the elders sated and distracted from waging war that would cost hundreds, perhaps thousands of lives. In this sudden resurgence, the family of Kraai took to a new God. This God came to Khyber Kraai in his dreams and revealed himself as responsible for burning the raiders. This and the gift of creations strengthened their decision to switch to that God for their religion so they were converted with some families following them as well. Even Farko was swayed the fire God's promise of power.

"The winter snow has begun to melt. The time to act draws near." Farko called out to the families who craved war as revenge for the ones that perished. The Hall roared with agreement. "Aerya, we can no longer wait when the others demand justice. The God Lysei has given us partial justice when he burned their leaders. It is up to us to finish the job."

"But it was Qartoq that gave us vital information, did she not?" Aerya responded. She read the reports that the necromancers gave about the secrets that the souls spilled.

"We have information about their army and we have information of their land. Why do we not attack?" Farko demanded.

"Because I have one last trick to pull." Gora said. "One last thing to do and that's it. I'll let you wage your war after this is done, I give you my word."

"And when has that ever given us any closure?" Farko spat out. "We've heard about your agent's blunders in Ray-Das."

"But yet he lives." Gora responded. "And allow him to do this task before you fly off into their arrows."

"It will be difficult anyway." Added Jaherys. "The Ajivans and the Aurorans have fortified the channel and ask for a toll. They wish to see themselves as arbiters and most likely they do so to profit from the strife between nations."

"I hope they know what they will be getting into." Aerya said. "I sent word to our diplomat in Aurora. We will give them a gift and if need be, pay for the toll. We will honor any agreement set in by our friends. Bypassing this treaty will only do us no good."

"It is getting difficult to distinguish friend from foe these days..." Gora remarked.

"Enough." Aerya said. "In the meantime, we must scout the islands closest to us in the channel. A God's will reduced the tide, revealing islands we can make use of in the future. We can form a trade post there and benefit greatly from it. This is what we shall do..."

Grand Ajivha: Palace of the Vazin, The Vazin's Private Chamber

The Vazin had been away too long.

On the journey south a cruel wind had stirred up a sandstorm, their party had been forced to take shelter until it passed. He wasn't sure how long they'd been waiting.

The Vazin looked at the recent reports from Ajivha, the boy-emperor dead replaced by an even younger one. A sad smile came to his aged mouth as he recalled that joke he had made when the two met. Anyone who heard would think him a murderer.

He sat down and placed quill to paper.

It is with a heavy heart that I write these condolences, your brother was a true ally even if it was not for long. Times are hard child, no doubt made harder by his passing, know that I had respect for your brother and hope you continue his legacy.

You may not remember me, though you seemed a sharp boy when me met, however I enjoyed our chats and believed it right to send this letter. If you will take the advice of an old ruler here it is:

You are young, many will try to take advantage of that. You must not let them.

A true ruler carves his own path, he must not let it be carved by another. That being send one must always heed advice, no doubt you will have a council, wise in years and experience. Listen to their words but do not be led, decisions are yours and yours alone, their words are guidance.

I hope in time we will meet again. Even more I hope that I will see you become an Emperor your brother would be proud of.

Yours in great faith
Vazin Prajja Tu Andha

Kevlam Nasta Ajivha-Tahna

His orders were simple, the letter was to be taken to the Emperor and him alone, one of his personal guards in escort.

It was an hour before the messenger arrived at his door. He was a young lad, evidently he had run a way, words came out in pathetic gasps.

'Arena...pant... prisoners...pant...giant sand birds!'

The Vazin was on board until he mentioned giant sand birds.

'Use sense child, serve your city and give me an answer.'

Even with that encouragement it took 20 minutes to get the story out of the boy, by its end the Vazin had half a mind to arrest him for false speech. The lord walked out to his balcony, true enough what had once been their Arena was now a rocky mess the bird's flight having ripped its foundations to rubble. All around citizens flocked like sparrows fleeing the nest, desperate for someone to explain what happened.

Someone had harmed his city.

Fire flashing in his eyes the Vazin returned to his room, by now the messenger had lost his redish tint and was ready for orders.

'Gather my council, my architects and my priests. There is some divinity at play here.'

His next order was directed at the pair of guards who stood at his door.

'You. Tell the Chief of Guards to send his men in, restore order at any cost. You. Get to the library, order any free scholar to research this beast. There will be advancement for any who give me information.'

The three scurried off like bugs from a flame, the Vazin returned to his chambers and spoke to whomever could hear him.

'I am Vazin Prajja Tu Andha, Architect of the City, Guardian of Her Gates. Gates you have brought low. Whomever you are, God or mortal, I know you can hear. Explain yourself!'

Gangari - 11/15 AP

Spring had come to the lands, though little would be seen in the deserts of Ajivha, Gangari and his University would feel it. Red Flowers began to appear across the university, whether it be the sands around it or the walls inside and out. Appearing in strange and unexpected places it was an amusing reaction for Gangari to see, though inconvenient for some inside who found their tables and chairs suddenly sprouting flowers.

He sat upon the peak of Ekaki and began to meditate, watching the lands, waiting to see how his actions would affect it.

Highcrag

Budraal's temper had yet to subside, though it was not directed straight at Jugaan anymore. Another Chieftain, Haakan, had suddenly come to his attention with the practicing of strange arts and the words of the one who gave him such power had been sweeping across the capital. "Another 'god'..." Budraal thought to himself. "Therax save me from this onslaught of gods..."

The Silver Tribe's new-found power also risked the balance between the Tribes, and the Supreme knew he would have to act fast in order to counter the spread of these new religions. So, he called forth Daal, Chieftain of the Bronze Tribe, the only Tribe large enough to single-handedly counter Jugaan's faction, and with some effort Haakan's as well. "Gather as many settlers as you can and stretch your territory to the southeast, up to the water. Once there, take the island that the reckless gods have made in the Gulf. Do this, and the next generation born in the Highcrag pools shall be yours."

Daal bowed, nodding for good measure. "It shall be done, my Supreme." Quickly, Daal summoned whatever forces were available in the capital and had them march southeast, past their former colony and towards the sea.

3. Attempt to settle the lands to the southeast (bordering the sea), and the island nearby.

Qartoq

The goddesses disappearance was remarkably sudden, the deathly chill that had always hung over her dissipated though the building itself stood, and the powers she had granted remained among the Krakari. It seemed she had gone the way of the old gods, vanishing without a trace, though unlike them the magic she had put into the world did not fade. The other gods could feel her sudden absence as well, though what it might mean they could not be certain. Surely their own age was not ending so soon after it had begun, though only time would tell for certain.

Deep Tribes

The first weeks of the new year proved greatly profitable for the Luug, lands to the southeast were settled including an island and new technologies were swiftly implemented. Tamed maggots and surprising advances in methods of research would no doubt help them expand farther and faster than ever before.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Raptor States

News from the university was great indeed, studies of the Ajivhams own magic had brought new light on how to make use of the strange creation powers they held, and perhaps on how others might gain access to such powers. Other news was less satisfactory though, settlers failed to colonize the lands to the south driven back by rival settlers and strong ocean winds.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Aurora

The Auroran scouts were cautious in their exploration of the new lands revealed by the ocean's lowering. It was strange, not barren but rather only recently coming to be inhabited with life from the surface. The remains of dead fish and other such creatures still littered it in places attracting a number of scavengers but no creatures large enough to challenge settlers. Certain areas were marked as good sites for new villages and towns, and the scouts returned to Aurora optimistic of their chances of settling this new god-given land.

Elsewhere Auroran construction proceeded well, the newly reinforced citadel was sturdily constructed and the trading post was swiftly erected in accordance to the orders sent.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Sammah Ajivha-Tahna

The university was already proving a source of great knowledge and new technology and methods both those acquired from its scholars and from dealings in other lands were swiftly implemented. There was little doubt that these would bring great prosperity to the land as time went on.

The scouts sent out were not as blessed as the university however, driven away from their duties by a sudden sandstorm and forced to return empty handed.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ray-Das

More news of the spies activities reached the ears of Wolf-keal, apparently this time the Krakari was spotted attempting to break into the studies of some notable scholars. In particular one study that seemed to receive a great deal of attention housed the newly received plans for a technology traded to them by the Ajivhams. Sadly the agent eluded capture again, and was proving a constant irritation if not threat to the people of Ray-Das.

Emperor Maximus I, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

Maximus watched out of his bedroom window as builders far in the distance rebuilt the city walls, remaking them so they were higher and stronger than ever. He recalled signing the order to start the construction, Octavius had offered to let him stay up longer in exchange for agreeing to the plans and he'd happily obliged.

"Your Imperial Majesty!"

Maximus looked up to see his brother's old personal slave, Wen, standing in the doorway. The man put his finger to his lips.

"This is very important!" he whispered in an urgent voice, "Before he died, Kaius asked me to give you this... if anything happened to him,"

He passed over a folded letter, Maximus slowly opened it and began to read with trepidation.

Dear Maximus,

If you are reading this, then the worst must have happened. What am I about to tell you dearest brother will seem insane but I swear in the name of the Father every word of it is true.

Since my birthday last year, a demon by the name of Lysei has been threatening me and our nation. With the help of the god Jashriki, I have decided to make a stand against Lysei and I don't know what will happen.

If I died in suspicious circumstances, especially violence or involving fire, then I was almost certainly killed by Lysei. Do not trust him my brother in the slightest, he says he stands for justice but in truth he is a hypocrite, an arrogant tyrant who murders everyone who disagrees with him. Do not trust his servants Katalia or Vallous either. Unless you are tied to the capital, I suggest you go with Mother back to our old home in Verde where it is safer. Do whatever you feel is best with this information.

I do not want to die but if I must do so for the sake of Aurora, I will accept my fate. Such is the duty of an Emperor. You my beloved brother must live however, the thought of any harm coming to you tears at my soul like nothing else. May the Father be with you and keep you safe, always.

Kaius
A week ago, Maximus would have cried but at this point, he couldn't summon the tears even if he wanted to. Instead he simply felt numb, suddenly everything that happened recently made sense: his brother's agitation in the days before his death, the suddenness of his demise... Lysei had been behind it all.

"Terrible isn't it," Wen added, "Poor Master Kaius, I don't know what I'll do without him,"

"Thanks for bringing this to me," Maximus replied, "I have to show this to Octavius, he'll know what to do,"

"Be careful!" the slave called after the young Emperor as he bounded through the halls towards Octavius' office. He burst through the doors without knocking, entering to find his uncle and Vallous sitting at a table talking. Remembering Kaius' warning about the prophet, he quickly shoved the letter in his back pocket before either of the adults saw it.

"Ah, Maximus!" Octavius enthused when he saw the child, "Perfect timing, I was about to send for you. You've met the High Priest Vallous yes?"

"Uh huh," the boy tried his best to put on a neutral expression as he shook hands with Vallous, he wished he could stab the deceptive prophet in his hairy face right there and then.

"He's to be your new advisor, he's got a personal line to Lysei the Father himself. Isn't that great?"

Maximus nodded hesitantly, not trusting himself to say anything in-case he revealed how he really felt.

"I look forward to working with you, your Imperial Majesty," Vallous grinned, his eyes remaining hard. "Well, don't let me keep you waiting, I'm sure you have so many important things to be doing?"

Maximus took that as an excuse to leave, as he walked away, he couldn't believe what he had just seen. Could his uncle really be league with Vallous and by extension, his brother's probable murderer? No, he quickly banished the thought, he knew Octavius would never allow someone to hurt Kaius. There was only one explanation: Lysei must have tricked or hypnotised Octavius into working with him. Maximus clenched his fists in hatred, within a fortnight the deity had stolen not only his brother but also his uncle.

"You'll regret this Lysei, however long it takes!" he thought furiously, "You're going to feel really sorry for killing Kaius and controlling Uncle Octy one day, the day when I find a way to get back at you!"

Highcrag-Den of the Supreme

"Mmmph..." Budraal grunted as he glanced over the notice a messanger sent him quite some time ago, regarding events in the far-off Auroran Empire. "Such a weak nation to allow someone so young and inexperienced to rule them..." With a flick of his wrist, the supreme sent the tablet flying into the a wall of his den, causing it to immediately crumble into dust.

After a moment of silence hung in the air, Budraal's attention was caught by a tapping against the entrance of his den. "Enter."

Those who came in at the Supreme's invitation were Daal and Os'lan, both looking somewhat perturbed. "What brings you two here?" Budraal situated himself to portray a more regal appearance. "Daal, shouldn't be you setting up our reclaimed territory?"

"It is being done as we speak, my Supreme." Daal nodded, but also sighed as his rested his heavy figure against the side of the den. "I saw to the construction of the first settlement on the new island, making sure the Tribeless carried out their final task of creating the first spawning pool."

"As for what brings us here..." Os'lan spoke up, not following in Daal's footsteps and relaxing in the chamber. "Jugaan and Haakan, both of them are whispering. They keep trying to get our Tribes to follow their 'gods', Haakan in particular is trying to get the Stone and Clay to buy into his religion, promising to share the powers that he somehow came into possession of." Os'lan shifted his weight to one of his massive fists. "It needs to stop."

Budraal closed his eyes and sat further back in his seat. "I see, and what do you propose I do? The Tribes as a whole have not been hindered by these spreading ideologies, I see no reason to cause such friction as a Supreme's harassment of the Chieftains has caused before."

Daal sighed and shifted, relaxing in his pose even more. "You're going to end up with friction regardless, either because you acted or not. Jugaan is calling in favors, and Haakan sees his chance to get back Silver's old glory. It's only a matter of time before they butt heads. Once they do, we could end up with a problem much worse than fighting among the Tribes." Daal closed his eyes, as if he knew what he was a stretch. "If these new gods are real, then we could touch off a war among them as well."

Budraal snorted, though he saw that Os'lan didn't find the same amusement in Daal's words. "I doubt that divines would care about which mortals follow them. As for Silver and Gold, no matter what powers Haakan was able to procure, he can't beat Jugaan. The fool let his Tribe slide into decay for too long to be any threat to anyone now." Budraal raised his fist to silence Os'lan's apparent rebuttal. "Regardless, I won't let it get that far. Should it come to blows, then I will end it...swiftly. Go see Jugaan if you think I'm taking her machinations lightly."

Daal stood back up and Os'lan turned to leave, the look on their faces making it clear they already saw Budraal's handiwork. With a respectful bow, both Chieftain's left their Supreme to his own devices.

To his credit, the Supreme didn't rest with the peace given to him. After setting some final affairs in his Den, Budraal made his way down to the Lore Stones, and consulted the Lorekeepers there to study the great stones that sat in the deepest chambers of the capital. To search for a technique that would help Budraal protect himself from these reckless gods.

After giving the Lorekeepers their orders, Budraal procured a large cache of gold from his personal vaults and had them carried up to the chamber of the Raptor States' ambassador. "Here." Budraal cast the gold in front of the ambassador. "Search this city, find anyone who would betray us and report them to me. Personally."

Golden Settlement

After getting her lashing from Budraal, Jugaan was inclined to return to where she could feel safe. So, she returned to the north and took her place as overseer of the Gold Tribe's expansion. To that end, she ordered the Maggot Tamers to lead the Queen and her brood back to the eastern tunnels. This time, hopefully with the help of the Tamer's new mastery and the scout's instructions, she could finally close off the pass to the north.

1. Conceal Budraal
2. Pay the Raptor States 2 Wealth
3. Settle the lands to the east, with the aid of the Maggot Queen (under Qartoq's manor)

Korys (Krakari Diplomat), Nova Verde

Time had passed since his arrival in the Auroran Empire and many things have changed indeed. The going of one Emperor and the coming of another brought no changes to the administration but it had been a problem getting in contact with one of them with everything going. But finally he was able to get a chance to speak.

Korys was lead into a fine room where no doubt many negotiations had been had in Aurora's history. He was given a seat a table and offered drink which he happily gulped down then when the person was he was meeting with was announced, he got up.

"It is a pleasure to finally meet you." Korys said as he bowed.

"The pleasure is all mine," Octavius replied as he walked into the room, he returned Korys' gesture with a short bow of his own. "I am Octavius, Prince Regent of Aurora. I trust you will be content for me to represent His Imperial Majesty today, I believe he is occupied catching frogs in the palace gardens."

Korys let out a warm smile. In truth, it had taken quite a bit of convincing to get an audience with any member let alone a regent.

"I am more than grateful." Korys took his seat. "I must give my nation's condolences. A passing of a great family member is heartbreaking but an emperor would be too much for my old bones to bear. In times of grief, the people closest to you truly appear shine so from one friend to another I extend my nation's hand in reaffirming our trade routes. Times have been hard and difficult for both of our nations so reestablishing our trade should help both of us in the coming months."

"We appreciate your condolences," Octavius nodded wearily, "And yes trade is the backbone upon which a nation is built. In the long run there is no place in this world for states who do not conform to this order, I think we both know who I am talking about. Still, the seas become safer even as we speak, much of the Great Channel is now almost pirate-free thanks to the effort of Aurora and Ajivha." He paused before adding with a raised eyebrow. "I hope your race do not mind the small compensation we ask for in exchange for this work."

"Oh, on the contrary, we Krakaris honor all deals put out by our dear friends which leads me to this offer." Korys rubbed his hands in anticipation. "Any slight inflicted by our own has not been forgotten ever since it had been committed. You can imagine what this means for our halfling friends. We will not and have not taken kindly to them killing and looting our people. We are not calling for their race and nation to be exterminated but rather be taught a lesson in dealing with blood. Blood must pay for blood, that is what we Krakaris strongly believe in. The Raptor States is willing to pay in order to cross the Great Channel. This can benefit both of us in the long term because if we do not teach those creatures a lesson then they will go out and raid and pillage once more with other nations like ours... or yours. We do not ask for you to join this conflict for this is ours but if this problem isn't nipped at the bud then the repercussions will be unimaginable."

"Hah," Octavius smiled slyly, "Of course we understand, you have full permission to bring your warships through the Channel to punish the Ray-Das for their crimes. I must ask though that this be the final chapter of the bad blood between your race and theirs, prolonged wars are not good for business."

He gestured up at a map of the world on his wall, "We would be willing to help you in this endeavour as friends, if you wish? With two invasion forces attacking at once, the halflings wouldn't have a chance. Once victory is attained, we could split the bounty fifty-fifty, slice off some territory for ourselves and leave a rump vassal state for the Ray-Das, economically dependent on our Trade Federation. More business for us, and if their society depends on trade from our nations, we need never fear another war with them." Octavius grinned. "Peace in our time eh, what do you say to that?"

Korys glanced up at the wall of the world, seeing the borders and nations. The grand scale of the world, trapped on a piece of parchment. He turned his eyes back to Octavius.

"Any help would be greatly appreciated but for the sake of future profit then we must, at least try, to avoid any... collateral damage. Once their armies and fortresses are scattered and beaten, the rest will follow." Korys sighed. "This was to happen one way or the other."

Korys held out his hand to the regent, a custom among the Krakaris for deals being finalized and agreed upon.

"Peace in our time, regent?" Korys said, offering his hand to be shaken in order to seal the deal.

"Consider it done," Octavius replied, shaking the Krakari's hand. "We will begin preparations immediately, well as soon as I get the Emperor to sign the necessary orders. Even he didn't of course, the recently re-established Noble Parliament could find a way round, they always do..." he sighed contently, "Anything else you wish to discuss today?"

"No, that is all. I thank you for your audience." Korys said as he got up. "If I have permission, your regent, I have some very important news to deliver."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yvera, Highcrag

Yvera glanced at the gold that Luug placed before her. It was a substantial amount and was of the amount agreed upon when they signed the contract. She weighed to be sure but she didn't want to waste time with the enormous Luug in front of her.

"It may take some time. I hope you know that." Yvera said as she wrote down something on a letter intended for delivery to Gora. "And with as large a city as this, I may need some help." She hastily finished her letter and looked for her messenger when he came flapping in.

"Ah, Krute, what lovely timing." Yvera said to the messenger but the Krakaris looked fatigued.

"Yvera, there's important news." Krute puffed. "We're mobilizing, the Sacred Band flies and-"

It was then that Krute noticed the open door and the lumbering Luug outside. He found himself short for words with seeing one so close but Yvera was used to the sight by now and handed him the letter she wrote.

"Calm down." Yvera said before she took his letter and opened it. The usually level-headed Yvera appeared distraught at the news and looked to Krute with worried eyes. "Qartoq is gone?"

Krute nodded solemnly and Yvera took in the news. Then she turned to the Luug that gave her the wealth.

"Apologies." Yvera said. "Everything seems to be happening so fast. We'll help you right away."

Grand Ajivha: Office of Internal Affairs
Kagada Pus

The only thing holding back bureaucracy is bureaucracy. Since the foundation of the University new methods were needed to manage the flow of peoples and students, Visor Dhurta had took it upon himself to improve the whole system via liberal application of queuing. Kagada Pus was on of he first to sign up, never excelling in physical matters he figured signing papers would be a suitable way to help his city. He regretted it.

The new job was officially referred to as 'Scribe for the City', though most had started calling them 'Ibis' since they spent their days hunched over, beak like quills scratching away.

Today he was actually out from behind a desk. Since the destruction of the Arena there were amble forms and papers to be signed; building permits, compensation for those hurt, orders to hunt down the ones who did it, etc. The Vazxin was going through a theological crisis of sorts so it was up to Visor Dhurta and his legion of weedy ibis to handle the city.

Kagada had a vague idea of what he was carrying; a variety of scrolls related to the University. Recent discoveries, correspondents between departments, requests for more money (lots of those) and so on. All on route to whomever they were relevant too. Though his hands were filled Kagada had a sense of easy confidence about him, orders were good, orders gave him purpose. This confidence was swiftly stolen when he wandered into a nearby Luug and dropped everything to the floor.

The rock-man was incredibly polite about the ordeal but he (Kagada assumed it was a he) wasn't very useful when it came to picking them back up. A quick apology from both sides and Kagada was off again, confidence somewhat diminished.

Parama, hopefully this letter will reach you soon. I had been meaning to send my apprentice but the boy went and caught sunstroke.

It worked! Following your instructions I reduced the Tai-Rock into sand and mixed it with yak's milk, the milk's top solidified into a thin redish seal. It reminded me of the mould that seems to grow on blades as time goes by, perhaps the two are linked. I suggest we gather others and try and work out why this happens. If such a thing comes from two unrelated ingredients then perhaps there is more out there.

Emperor Kaius III, Vance, Nova Aurora

"They made Maximus Emperor?" Kaius groaned, his hope that his younger brother would be able to escape the politics of the capital shredded in a moment. "No doubt Octavius wants to keep the crown in the family, more secure that way."

"It's terrible, isn't it dear?" Lady Cassian said sympathetically, "Would you like some more cod?"

"Yes, thanks," the deposed Emperor replied with a sigh, before asking something that had been weighing on his mind for a while "I mean no offence, I appreciate your service, but don't you have any slaves that could do this you?"

Lord and Lady Cassian gave each other a glance,

"We don't believe in keeping slaves," the wife replied after a hesitant pause, "that it's right that is."

"Why not?" Kaius asked with curiosity.

"Well, we don't like the idea of a person being forced to stay in one job and place for their whole life, with no choice over anything they do."

"Huh, I never thought about it like that before," Kaius replied scratching his head, "My palace slaves always seemed happy,"

"I'm sure many of them were, and we mean no offence your Imperial Majesty, it's a personal choice for one to make alone," Lord Cassian butted in, "We just think it might be better for people to choose to work for you, rather than being bought and maybe taken away from their families with no say in the matter."

"True, I suppose that would be unpleasant if you didn't like what job you were given," The Emperor said, mulling over their unusual beliefs for a few minutes before changing the subject.

"Have you got in contact with anyone yet?" He asked Lord Cassian.

"Well," the elderly man replied, "I've tested the waters with some of my old contacts, but to be honest I haven't made much headway yet. You have to be so careful, the last thing we want is to accidentally give too much away to an Imperial spy and have them swoop down on us! Give it another week or two and we'll get somewhere I'm sure."

"I hope so," Kaius frowned, "I can't wait here forever, only the Father knows what Maximus is going through in Nova Verde, I daresay Octavius will be pulling the strings as we speak." He clenched his fist. "Sooner or later, I'm going to have to make a move."

General Omar, Oilean Uisce

The construction of the trading post on Jashiki's island had just been completed but it seemed like the soldiers wouldn't be resting for long. That morning a messenger had arrived from Nova Verde, carrying with him orders signed by Prince Regent Octavius himself. A handful of men were to stay behind to guard the trading outpost, with the rest to sail for the southern lands held by the Ray-Das immediately. General Omar whistled as he looked behind him to see a veritable armada of fresh Auroran ships appearing over the horizon, ready to follow him wherever his fleet would go. He'd never seen so many ships in one place before, nor so many loaded with an assortment of warriors, supplies and even the odd trebuchet.

"Heh," he chuckled to himself, "Father Matthias have mercy on the halflings if they don't lay down arms as soon as they set eyes on this armanda, or they may be meeting him sooner than they expected!"

(Major) - Invade Ray-Das territory to gain a foothold in their lands, in tandem with Krakari forces
(Major) - Re-establish trade with the Raptor States
(Major) - Colonise areas near Aurora which were scouted in the last turn's action (squares to colonise specified below)

(Note) - the Aurorans now use these placeholder names for the Channel Islands, as follows:

Lot-Vos

Wolf-Keal studied the reports from the scouts, commanders and sergeants hurrying in and out of the tower. Reports of the bloody birdmen sailing alongside the Aurorans, who until now were entirely peaceful in the fight. He cursed their names and readied himself for war. Messangers rode, ran or flew to villages and outposts, and across the nation arms were raised. Wolf-Keal sent out commands to his men, and as the time grew closer, armed himself for battle.

"To all commanders and sergeants,

All mobile battalions not assisting in evacuation of villages to the cities or recovery of arms and armour must be prepared at the landing site. The moment these bastards try to wing down or land, we will fill them full of holes. Don't try and engage the ships, they will simply pepper you from the decks. Make sure as soon as they land they are contained and unable to gain a foothold. The birdmen will fall like flies, so just make sure they don't land in strength without opposition.

The Elites will be helping you in this fight - so be ready to fall under their command at any point. All of you know your jobs and your orders - good luck."

"To all admirals and captains,

All ships are to fall back to the capital, as the main port of the Ray-Das. It will keep you covered and the enemy fleet will only be able to engage under the cover of the city. If they attack, fight back, but otherwise form up into one fleet and be ready for combat. Good luck, sailors."

"To Captains Trevor, Grathem, Lyik and Sandral,

Your money is waiting, so get down to the fields with you men. You are to defend alongside the rest of our force and be ready to fall back to the city if the battle goes wrong. You will receive more pay to continue to fight for us. Remember, you cut and smash, my troops will pinhole them. You get paid for a reason, men. Good luck, and I hope we can continue to do business."

"To the Elites,

I need the trained fighters on the fields to sally out against their attacks and crush their attempts at a landing zone. Regardless, you are to lead our troops to crush the enemy. They are at our shores, and it is time to make them bleed. For those of you who specialize in sieging, I need you at the capital to shore up and defend the walls. I want you checking for tunnels and watching for spies. Anything to stop them from entering the captial. Good luck, Elites. You are the best, so you must do this."

Major - Reinforce Lot-Vos (2 wealth, +1)
Major - Recruit 4 Merc Companies (4 Wealth, +4) They are to defend/attack the enemy landing camps
Major - Counter-espionage, uncover a foreign agent (Seriously dude, you suck at spying, just die already!)
Minor - Evac citizens, farmers and various non-combatants to the capital or inland cities.

Khyber, On the way to Ray-Das

"These are all of them, Khyber." His lieutenant said. The rising sun turned the sky a bloody red, a omen of things to come. Khyber looked around at all the brave Krakaris that sailed out with them. They gathered on the decks to see Khyber and hear him. Surrounding Khyber is the Sacred Band with their inscriptions and prayers adorning their weaponry. Feelings in their eyes were mixed but all share the same sentiment: revenge.

"My fellow soldiers!" Khyber called out in a roaring voice. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted even a few Aurorans turn their heads towards Khyber. Their ships sailed in tandem towards the landing zones. The heavy salty air and the rocking of the boats made Khyber uneasy but he had to shun those emotions away for now.

"We go forward today to honor a deal. Do you know what that is brothers?" Khyber said as he scanned the Krakaris around him and like one they shouted.

"Blood must pay for blood!" Their shouts roared over the waves.

"That is correct. These halflings have taken the blood of our innocent and young! They dare come into our lands and take what is not theirs! They dare pray to their heathen God for protection! Well today we will prove them wrong. Today, we will break their bows, shatter their shields, wreck their ships and return the death they have given us!" Khyber said to the cheer of Krakaris soldiers around him. But when the cheering died down, Khyber looked up and wondered if Lysei was watching.

"Lysei!" Khyber called out. "I swear my life to you for a victory! You call yourself the God of Justice so today I shall claim justice for my people! I swear to you! We swear to you! Give us victory and we will worship for centuries to come!"

Jashiki,in the ocean just outside Ray-Das city, 15/15AP

Glaring at Lysei and Cyth'raul both Jashiki breaks the chains around him and ignores the whispers they try to slide into his head. Snarling and showing the razor sharp teeth in his mouth he gets down in a fighting pose.
"FOOLS!!!!! You talk of justice and right but surprise attack and kill those around you for nothing! Come god of justice, this has shown what you are. A coward! Attacking another with numbers because you fear to do it yourself."

Snarling and putting his hands to either side of him Jashiki draws on the water around him and changes it. A spear of ice in his right hand he charges forward and hits Lysei with his body he stabs the spear into his chest as hard as he can. The ice freezing and trying to change his body so it wont stay together.

Attack lysei, +4 water, +2 change. +6 overall.

Everyone else
Lysei hopped back, it appeared as if Jikashi had managed to get more worshippers, likely Kaius' doing. The god of flames ignored Jikashi's rant and quickly raised his broadsword in preparation. He made a quick turn back and psychically called to Gangari. "He is more powerful than I expected, looks like you will be needed for combat after all." With that, Lysei braced himself and put his efforts towards deflecting Jikashi's attack.

Gangari appeared near Lysei, taking in the situation for a moment before acting. He modified his staff with his will, making it resemble a spear more than it had already. He covered it in and the blade of Lysei in flaming runes of war, and then charged at Jashiki with his spear. As he charged, his form started to cover itself in mercurial silver plating and his eye became red. Meanwhile, Cyth'raul stood back and doubled its chains. Jikashi could feel the whispers sink deeper into his mind.

Lysei: defend himself +4 Flames doubled = +8 overall
Cyth and Gangari attack Jikashi: +8 overall.

High Prince Octavius, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

"No, that's impossible!" Octavius gripped a hold of a nearby desk, unable to process the news that had just been recited to him. Vallous watched on from the side of the room, his face cold and expressionless.

"I'm afraid it's true, your Majesty," the messenger boy said apologetically, "The guards were very clear, they found his body hanging in his room along with this note." He handed Octavius the letter Kaius had written. "They performed the standard funeral rites and disposed of the corpse appropriately, I saw them do it myself,"

"You... may leave, lad..." Octavius replied and waited until the boy had left the room, before slamming his fists down on the desk in despair.

"How? Why would he do this?" he cried, "I am cursed now, this house is cursed!"

"Octavius," Vallous stood up and gripped the man's shoulder, "This is unfortunate but it's not your fault, I..."

"Not my fault?!" the prince bellowed, "I sent him there, my own nephew, to his death! There's blood on these hands, oh Father what have I done?"

"He's out of our way now, it's for the greater good," the prophet replied sternly, "Now we can carry on with our plans without interference,"

"Don't you see?" Octavius shouted, "The souls of those who die by their own hand, they never rest until their unfinished business is complete." He pointed at himself and then back at the elder man with despair in his eyes. "I am that business, Vallous,"

Vallous had no idea how to reply, he'd never received any teachings from Lysei about the afterlife and had continued to teach those of the Auroran state for ease. Who knew what the dead got up to?

"I might as well finish it now," Octavius muttered, taking a long knife out of his belt and aiming it's blade at his own stomach. "I don't deserve anything more, a mere murderer, an oath breaker..."

"Wait!" Vallous interjected, reaching out to hold Octavius' blade hand, "There is so many great achievements we have yet to make, what will Emperor Maximus do without you?"

"Maximus?" Octavius scoffed, "Why, even he would make a better ruler than I!"

"Maybe so, one day" the prophet replied, "But presently he is barely more than eight years old, he has no idea how to run an empire. Take your own life and another will rise up to become the power behind the throne, no doubt Prince Hwan or someone equally selfish." Gently, he prised the knife out of the prince's hands. "Who will free the slaves, if not you?"

Octavius slumped dejectedly into a chair, his whole body hunched over.

"You are right," he said quietly, "I mustn't abandon my post, yet." He then looked up at Vallous, giving the prophet a fierce glance. "One day though I may choose do the honourable deed and if I do, neither you or Lysei or anyone-else can stop me!"

Finally after Vallous could be persuaded to leave the room, Octavius got down on his knees and prayed for Lysei.

"God of Justice, I don't know where you are or what you are doing... but we need to meet, as soon as possible."

The Battle/Raptor States

Auroran ships and Krakari soldiers flocked towards the northern edge of the Ray-Das territory, but the halflings were prepared. Their own ships and soldiers met the invasion force, and were aided greatly by mercenaries who proved their worth. The combined forces of two attacking nations outnumbered the defenders greatly, but the Ray-Das were well entrenched and when this became obvious the attackers quickly withdrew with minimal casualties to either side. For now the two sides were in a stand off, though the mercenaries employed by the Ray-Das were fast collecting their pay and letting it be known that unless one side or the other offered more they would be departing.

The Krakari in particular were upset by this turn of events, their knowledge of the defenses had led them to the weakest parts, but even those had been too heavily fortified against them, if only by the last minute recruitment of mercenaries. The coffers of the Ray-Das could not protect them forever though, and the Krakari elite remained eager to wet their blades.

(By all means write up much more dramatic tellings of the battle, this is just a vague overview so as to not step on any toes)

Aurora

Superstition repelled the settlers, wary of their bad luck from previous attempts and fearful that the sea might rise up and reclaim the land they were hesitant to depart. This coupled with failing to bring enough food led to the expeditions early return.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Deep Tribes

Now abandoned by the goddess the manor and region surrounding it was finally claimed by the Luug, the impressive size and strength of the maggot queen lent itself not only to settling the region but driving out the brigands and smaller tribes that dwelt in the area. Back in the mountains a ritual was completed at great cost, said to have been devised by the Pale one himself, or perhaps by one of his followers it would hide the subject from the gods themselves. Whatever truth or fiction the origin story held was irrelevant as the ritual worked, and soon Budraal held a small warm grey stone in his hands.

Sammah Ajihva-Tahna

A breakthrough! One that led to many more, the beginnings of a new science, one that might explore the basest components of all things, the building blocks of every substance, save perhaps whatever it was that made up the gods. Unfortunately this success was the sole great achievement for the months that followed, as harsh conditions drove back the Ajihvam scouts. Elsewhere a great deal of food was set aside, hoping to work towards preventing the brief but noticeable shortages that had come alongside the new year.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ray-Das

As the battle was fought out along the northern coast the hunt continued deeper inside Ray-Das itself though it remained fruitless for the time being. The spy was proving to be effective at escaping their traps if nothing else, and a great deal of attention was focused on other projects such as reinforcing Lot-Vos, with war now fully upon them such reinforcements might prove vital in the coming months.

The Battlefield, West of Lot-Vos

Wolf-Keal observed the battlefield before him, and any soldier he met he would either nod, congratulate or shake hands with. They had done it. The bastards hadn't made landfall and gained a foothold, so Lot-Vos was safe - for now. After wandering the camps of his defenders, Wolf-Keal paid the mercenaries their dues for another few months of fighting. He met with the captains personally, to thank them for their help and even offer them service in the Ray-Das army as permanent captains, but with mixed replies. The mercenary life truly was worth it, in these times.

Later, he organised a courier to deliver a message to the Aurorans. The bird took flight, towards the Auroran fleet. As the bird-man closed, he called for parley, for he had a message to bring.

Major - Hire the mercs again (-4)
Minor - Make contact with the Aurorans.

Emperor Maximus I, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

While Octavius prayed for Lysei, Maximus sat cross-legged in his bedroom with a small gathering he knew he could trust. Besides him lay the letter from Ajihva, it's words taken to heart, he would calve his own path independent from Octavius. He'd write a reply to the Vazin, when he had the time, but right now there were more important issues to attend to.

"Today I inaugurate the first meeting of the Resistance against Lysei," the boy said in the most formal voice he could muster, "Time to take our register. Wen?"

"Here," the slave replied with a shrug.

"Good," Maximus said, ticking off a name on his list. "Prima?"

"Yes," she said curtly.

"Aelia?"

No reply came. The young Emperor looked up and gave the baby an annoyed glance.

"Aelia?!" A gurgle was the only reply.

"That'll do," Maximus sighed and casually tossed his list into the fireplace where it instantly dissolved into flames. "Now, first we need to pick a name..." he thought for a moment, "Oh, how about the Blood Sharks?"

"That's a little... silly," Prima admitted, before adding. "How about the Octopi? Like the plural of an Octopus?"

"Why them?" Maximus asked, "they don't even do anything, they just float around in the sea right?"

"Think about it," the woman replied, "Octopi are excellent at camouflage and hiding, they also have many limbs that can move independently, just like we will move individually but directed towards one goal. Most importantly though, it is said that octopi have the longest memory of any animal, just as we won't forget what happened to Kaius, ever,"

"Huh," Maximus said, "That's actually quite a good idea, what do you think Wen?"

"I like it too," the slave shrugged.

"Good, we'll use that," Maximus replied happily, "Now, I have a plan for getting back at Vallous..."

He leant forward and talked hurriedly with his fellow conspirators. After some discussion, a plan of action had been agreed.

"Perfect," Prima grinned.

"Anyone know anybody we could link up with?" Maximus asked excitedly, "To form a proper underground movement, I mean"

"My partner knows some people... in that area," Wen replied hesitantly, "I could ask him to inquire."

"Do it!" the young Emperor exclaimed, "Now all we need is code-names, so Lysei can't trace any of this back to us. How about 'Sword of Revenge!'" He looked around at their sceptical expressions, "What, no-one likes that one either?"

After some debate, it was decided that Maximus would be known as 'Phantom', Wen as 'Rancour', Prima as 'Widow' and Aelia as 'Cub'. The four talked for a little while longer and then departed, each tasked with their own duties for the newly formed resistance movement.

"Take this, Lysei," Maximus smirked to himself, "No-one will be forgetting about Kaius any-time soon!"

.

General Omar, the battlefield west of Lot-Vos

"Retreat and regroup!" the cry came as the Auroran soldiers withdrew from the Ray-Das' defensive positions. They hadn't penetrated the city's defences but critically causalities were also minimal, the soldiers were ready for more.

"General, look!" a cry came from a boy in the crow's nest. Omar looked over his shoulder and sure enough, a fleet of mercenaries flying the Auroran flag were rapidly approaching. Alongside the hired recruits were elite whale and dolphin riders, armed with long spears and towing a boat with a mounted trebuchet.

"Perfect, just the back-up we need," the general said under his breath, "Better late than never huh?"

At that moment, a small bird landed next to General Omar, a roll of gold-laced paper tied around it's leg. The man gently untied the message and read it quickly, grunting in amusement.

"What is it?" one of his officers asked.

"It seems like the halfings want to talk, already," Omar replied, a brief smile dancing across his lips, "Maybe our assault did more than we thought?"

(Major) - Hire five Mercenary companies
(Minor) - Deploy elite Auroran troops
