Emperor Maximus I, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

Maximus dejectedly made his way through the palace, trying to ignore the sights of the gods fighting before his eyes. He briefly stopped outside the room where Ronin taught him, putting his ear to the door he heard the quiet spiel of Aurelius and the drone of his son's tutor. He smiled briefly, at-least some things never changed.

Moving on, he entered the office of the Lord Seer, standing before Aldren's desk.

"Good to see you, your Majesty," the man said brightly, looking up at him, "Something on your mind?"

"Yes," Maximus sighed as he took a seat, "First the carnage in Ajivha, now I can see the gods themselves fighting to the death. The peace between the divinities that was so hard fought for twenty five years ago has come to an end. Give me some good news, Lord Seer,"

Aldren dutifully brought up the orb and held his hand over it, closing his eyes as he spoke.

"I see... fire. Spiralling flames, reaching as high as the Moon. A bronzed woman, a mother no less, surrounded by a web covering Aurora and beyond. Her trap is closing in on us all, one of our number has already fallen, "

He paused for a few seconds and then continued.

"I see three Emperors, all of the House of Verde. The elder, the younger and the son; as dawn, day and then dusk. Then... then..." he faltered over the last line, shaking his head slowly in apparent disbelief.

"What is it?" Maximus asked cautiously. Aldren suddenly opened his eyes and looked directly at the Emperor, his expression bent in horror.

"I don't know how to say this your Majesty but... but you haven't got much time left in this world!"

General Fallan, south of Highcrag

The siege of Highcrag had begun after the lack of response from the Deep Tribes following their last letter. General Fallan couldn't quite understand why the Luug fought on, they'd lost almost every battle they had taken part in, their basic weaponry was clearly no match for the more modern Auroran and Grat armies. The siege-breakers the General had asked for weren't ready yet but he was hopeful given the track record that they wouldn't be needed to storm the capital.

"What are you thinking, Jugaan," he muttered to himself, "Is there any tricks left in the bag or is this your last gasp?" Of course, there was only one way to find out.

(Major) - Conquer Highcrag with first army, along with drider, dragon rider and sea vampire support

Highcrag, Den of the Supreme

Jugaan glared impatiently at Lew'Pan, "Are the preparations ready? Time is not on our side here."

Lew'Pan in turn cowered before the Golden One, "Yes, Supreme, just as you ordered."

The Supreme sighed sharply, the day Cyth'raul whispered the terms of their latest Pact seemed to have happened months ago but it was still fresh in her mind. The terms were steep indeed but the promise of success was irresistible.

"I have a... ritual in mind, your people and yourself must perform it." The Pactforger had said, and further instructions had been imprinted in her mind. It was insane, however, who was she to question the deity who had raised her from the dead?

"Good." She purred, seemingly calm even after that sharp exhalation of air.

Without further ado, Lew'Pan blew a horn. Jugaan looked down and saw the remaining Luug forces all dressed up in their new armour, well, it was only really a bunch of bags but that was what they had been told.

The Supreme made her final speech, "Today, we rain death upon our foes and go onwards on our path to ascension!"

It was painfully short.

Cyth'raul, Southern Padonia - 16/21 AP

Even with the pain, there was no screams from the Pactforger, just a chuckle. If this brutish world didn't care for the deity, then Cyth'raul would just have to return those feelings. With fire.

Thus as winter and the year drew to a close, many nations rolled out their annual censuses, hoping to receive a bumper crop of population. They were not disappointed, in most cases.

Nations

Aetherial Collective

The Collective spent their last month dedicated to research, most of which news did not reach the other nations of the world despite their alleged success. It was known they researched improved tools, however.

Aurora

With a combined effort of the first Auroran army and their elite counterparts, after a fierce battle the city of Highcrag fell to Aurora. Now it would be up to them and the Grat to decide what to do next with their respective new populations. Meanwhile, as the Aurorans geared up for new year celebrations, two new settlements north of Nova Aurora and south of Nova Ajivha respectively were successfully completed and steam guns were produced in large enough numbers to equip the Auroran armies, especially the new water bendering elite troops whose powers allowed them to manipulate the inside of their guns for greater efficiency.

Grat Shee

At this point, the Grat Shee hordes seemed unstoppable as they clawed the southern mountains from the grasp of the Deep Tribes and left Quatog's Manor surrounded and sieged, the last remaining Luug stronghold. As news of the fall of Highcrag came, the Luug realised the inevitably of their defeat and laid down their arms as the Grat army entered their city. Another measure of Luug population was specially secured by the Grat Shee and at the same time, a new settlement was founded on the south-west plains.

Raptor States

In a bout of expansion, the Raptor States settled both north of their territory and also in the far south, close to Nova Ajivha and Saranda. At the same time their research into anatomical studies and revolving parts were a success, as were their diplomat who reached the lands of the Grat Shee in good time.

Saranda

The Driders of Saranda attempted to implement rune magic and a method of communing with the deities up high, unfortunately they did not realise that their funds for the season were exhausted and so neither were completed by the end of the year. Their research into necromancy, genning and a means of combining magic was more successful, however.

Gods

Cyth'raul, Gangari and Lysei

The new settlers of southern Padonia watched in horror and amazement at the great kaboom above their heads, tendrils of fiery rage seeming to fly in all directions. Ultimately they were largely unharmed by the display as the last of Cyth'raul's power was knocked out of them, leaving the Pact-forger at the mercy of their fellow gods. With a final effort, Cyth'raul disappeared into a burst of energy and was never seen again on this plane.

Grat Shee, Irontooth, Sharo

Sharo stood on a ledge build on the outside one of the hides high up in the trees, looking out over the scars in the forest from when one of their gods had raged at them. Standing still and watching he can see the forest healing itself, the scars going away or being grown around as it grows. He had always known from when the god had blessed this land that it was special but he had come to realize only recently that it was alive as he was. Spreading and growing it was alive, and seemed to be attacking those who hurt it even, as he had witnessed when a creature from the mountains had come down and started eating the trees and vegetation with abandon the forest itself had attacked, killed, then eaten it. He had gone back and several new trees had been growing in that spot, larger than they should be.

Sharo sighs softly and turns to step away from the edge, walking down a bridge into another hide that was carved from the inside of the tree he turns to a small group of Grat standing there and nods to them. They all put their claws over their hearts and turn to jump out of the doorway to catch some hanging ropes and using them to controlled drop to the ground with a grace better than most Grat they hit the ground running.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Merso, Kortala

In a dug out portion of the mountain where the Luug had done for the Grat, the inside was packed with wooden pieces and a large fireplace close to the door Merso stood next to the small rack for the weapons he owns, slowly polishing and sharpening the arrows and axe and spear. As he cleaned and sharpened then someone stepped up behind him from the door and says from the doorway softly.
"I did as you asked. Your right, a few things i have seen happen are not as great as the Grat should be. But even now i am unsure about what you have hinted."

Merso turns around and looks at the Grat standing in his doorway, letting out a deep breath and sitting down himself he shakes his head.
"Neither am i, but Crina seems to think that is and even if i don't agree sometimes i do wish that someone more... aggressive was the Chief. "

Merso looks up at the other Grat and pushs a small bag across the table so it is closer to the other.
"For the trouble my request has caused you."

The shorter Grat slowly steps forward and picks it up. looking in it for a second before closing it tightly he nods and leaves quickly.

After he has gone Merso sits where he is thinking for a long time.

Gangari - 21/21 AP

Gangari stared angrily at the ground where Cyth'raul had been. After a minute of silence he screamed and threw his helmet and staff to the ground. He looked at Lysei and frowned "Even in death the ***** finds a way to anger me." He buried his face into his hands and continued "Why couldn't she be decent enough to let me have my catharsis." He lowered his hands after a moment and then spoke in a sad tone "I need time to think" he sighed heavily and continued "If you want to speak to me I'll make myself visible again in a month. I can't- not yet." He then walked towards the north and faded into the air.

- Stop sending the vision out.
- Leave two minor objects in Padonia (the helmet and the staff/axe, beyond their appearance and the simple enchantments at play they're nothing exceptional in mortal hands)

Emperor Maximus I, Stowhurst, Kingdom of Mereton

A month later, Maximus still could not quite believe the news. He was going to die. That much was clear, if the Lord Seer was right, which he always had been so far. The orb was an unpredictable beast however and so any indication of how long he had left was a mystery. 'Soon' could be years after-all on the scale the deities lived on, but each day when he awoke he wondered whether it was his last and what might come afterwards. The other part of Aldren's prediction weighted on his mind, the three Emperors of Verde: the elder, the younger and the son. The first two were clearly Kaius and him, but who was the son? Was it his own Aurelius, growing fast but still tenderly young: smaller than even Maximus was when he took the throne as a child? Or was it Julius, his teenage nephew unrecognised by the court at large but seemingly ever keener to claim his birthright, whatever awkward questions about the last year of his older brother's life would come from that.

He shook his head to drive away the thoughts, today was not the day for this. He along with much of the court of Aurora had come to the Kingdom of Mereton to celebrate an event that had been building for months: the marriage of Prince Cyneheard to Princess Aelia. The couple had met during the Crown Prince's trip across Aurora and with the approval of their royal families, hit off quickly. Now the only daughter of Kaius would marry into the house of Alfred, drawing the two nations into an unparalleled closeness. More than anything else though, Aelia looked splendidly happy with bunches of flowers in her hair and the traditional pink dress that Auroran women wore on their wedding days, Maximus was glad that he'd found his niece a suitable match. With her father gone, it was his responsibility to give her away.

Representatives from all over Aurora were attending, including King Ver-Jie from the Ray-Das and a collection of rich Padonians. A bunch of heavily enrobed Ajivhans arrived late due to storms across the Channel, though Indraj and Didana were conspicuously absent, too busy dealing with the aftermath of Cyth'raul's attack. There was even a small delegation of newly conquered Luug, growling sullenly at the proceedings. The southern base of the conquered mountains had been reconstituted into a new Free State of the Deep Tribes, the fourth autonomous province of Aurora, with Highcrag as it's capital being rebuilt as they spoke. Some members of Parliament had advocated far less humane solutions but he had put a stop to those ideas. He didn't know what the Grat intended to do with their captured Luug population but he hoped it would be a fair settlement.

"Your Imperial Majesty," King Edgar approached him, bowing deeply, "It is an honour to finally meet you. My son has told me of the great wonders in your land, of dragons, shining metal carts which propel themselves and men who move water with their bare hands. We are a poor land, with few resources, now today as your fellow kin aid would be much appreciated."

"Indeed, and to you," Maximus replied, spreading his hands generously, "The Father himself said that it is the destiny of all men to be one day united under the banner of Aurora. Join our Commonwealth as equal brothers and we will share with you these wonders which we enjoy,"

"We will have to negotiate properly," the King replied gruffly, "I think we can work together, but our Kingdom's autonomy must be protected from outside interference. My nobles would have nothing less, and I must know that my son's future crown will be secure under the auspices of the Commonwealth,"

"Of course," the Emperor nodded, "We'll talk about it after the ceremony, I think they're waiting for us,"

Nations

Aetherial Collective

The Collective implemented a whole variety of research including Architectural Engineering, Improved Tools, Grown Living Metal Structures and Rune Enhanced Structures, all to strengthen their defences. Similarly, the eastern half of their lands upgraded to become their first citadel.

Aurora

Bulging with it's new population, Aurora settled three new colonies in the north to provide room for it's excess people. Good use for the masses was found however as plans for new factories were drawn up in Nova Verde and Highcrag was officially rebuilt as a citadel.

Grat Shee

The Grat research into glass and communicating with the forest were both notable successes, however the nation was humiliated when a group of their species was discovered in the Raptor States, attempting to steal gunpower and fire-arm technology. It would be up to the Krakari to determine the unfortunate spies' fates.

Gods

Gangari

In his anger following Cyth'raul's suicide, Gangari began work on a new project that for the time being would remain hidden from others.

Aerith, Silverclaw

It was early in the morning when she was made aware that Khyber was back in Silverclaw. His personal messenger went to Aerith and delivered a letter for her and her only which only made Aeirth more wary of its contents. Things have been uneasily still in the Raptor States. With the witch hunt that Khyber has in full-swing, many Krakari have become nervous about going to work for fear of being caught by the Khyber's black-clad soldiers. But only the common folk and some of the minor merchant families have been affected thus far.

Aerith took the letter off of the messenger's cold hands. He gave her a grave look before he flew off. Aerith hurried back up to her room and opened the letter. In a moment's notice she dressed in a brown cloak, hoping to be as inconspicuous as she could. She fastened a short-sword on her hip before leaving, unsure of whether she was going to use it or not. She snuck out of her estate, she had live there all her life and knew a few nooks where guards don't normally look. As of late, the guards around her family's estate has doubled. It wasn't just the normal array of guards she knew by face and name but new ones that had a worrisome air to them. She even spotted a few Ajhivans with Krakari weapons in hand, most likely mercenaries hired on such a short notice. She didn't like this one bit.

Aerith took off towards a nondescript building on the fringe of Silverclaw's urban sprawl. It used to be a Qartoq shrine but fell into disrepair when the God disappeared from this world. When she got closer, she could make out Khyber's black guard lurking in the shadows. She recognized them right away because she fought alongside them in Ray-Das. Now they were here with grim faces and grim tidings. When she got closer, they approached her and asked for her weapons but she refused.

"Let her keep them." A familiar voice called out, and the soldiers backed off. "Come in, Aerith. We don't have much time."

Aerith went inside the fallen shrine and there she saw Khyber and a tall, hooded Krakari. More soldiers were inside, all hands on their holsters.

"Where you followed?" Khyber asked Aerith.

"No..." Aerith said tentatively. A silence fell on the two but eventually Aerith spoke up nervously. "Who is he?"

"Yoren's eyes and ears. He is why I'm calling you here today. We raided a Severyn safe-house and that's where we found this." Khyber took out the handful of papers he found in the tunnels that fateful day. He passed the letter to Aerith who read it herself, over and over again. "There was a tunnel network beneath the safe-house leading to other safe-houses all over the States. It was a break in our hunt but one of them lead to Silverclaw and into-"

"The Aquila estate." Aerith finished, dropping the papers and nearly dropping herself.

"We have reason to believe that your family is involved with Severyn." The hooded Krakari said with a gravely voice. Aerith shook herself out of the shock and looked accusingly at both of them.

"How could accuse my family of such a thing?!" She yelled at them. "Our family has maintained the peace for hundreds of years and here you are accusing them of harboring a terrorist orginization.

"We would have found out sooner." The Krakari said. "A group of Severyn wanted to defect but they were apprehended by their own organization and the turned over to the Aquilas. They were the first criminals to be executed by firing squad. These group of defectors weren't given a fair trial like other criminals. They were immediately put to death and silenced before they could spill the secrets."

"And how do you know this? This all seems like wild speculation!" Aerith called out, refusing to believe such an accusation.

"Because we interrogated the Severyn we captured." Khyber said. "All of their confessions line up with the mention of a few individuals who tried to confess earlier. They were too scared to leave Severyn after hearing of what happened to the ones that tried to earlier."

"In those interrogations, we also found out they were being financed by merchant families all under your family." The hooded Krakari said. "The surge of financing started when Yoren Oscen was captured 25 years ago."

"I thought Severyn were all the families that the Raptor States tried to remove? Yoren Oscen and his family made a number of Krakari disappear over the course a few years." Aerith asked.

"They are. The majority of Severyn are without families. Most of them are orphans of the Oscen's fight for the top. Some of them were also gifted by the God Lysei with creation powers. Those have been the hardest to apprehend." Khyber said. "Using their powers, they can change their faces and looks which is why you are here."

"You think some of them are in my family?" Aerith said, connecting the dots. This all seemed crazy and far-fetched to her but this was Khyber which was even more surreal. Normally she spoke the hard truth but this was truly insane.

"Family or higher-ups in your family's organization which explains why the Severyn threat proved to be more than a nuisance. Some Krakari are turning a blind eye to the Severyn. Before, whenever we took out a cell, two more took its place. Only the resources of a rich organization could finance such an endeavor. Severyn never seemed ill-equipped." Khyber took a break from speaking, looking at Aerith with uneasiness in his eyes. "Trust is hard to come by these days. Can we trust you?"

"What choice do I have?" Aerith said, motioning to the soldiers surrounding her.

"Don't mind them." Khyber said. "I need to know right now whether you can help us root out this problem once and for all. Once I commit, everything will change for good with our nation's fate changing with it."

"Change comes whether we hate it or love it. It will be comforting to know that I made some change in this world." Aerith finally said after a few moments of thinking. "What is the plan?"

Grat Shee, Kesar, Irontooth

Kesar was staring at a a report that had been just brought in and threw it across the room, it hitting the wall across the way and one side breaking off in a ragged chunk. Staring at it and breathing hard he walks back over and picking up the pieces shoves them at one of the Grat standing there and snarls at them.
?Rewrite this onto another slat and put it away.?

Stalking out and away Kesar ignores the bustle around and moves to the tree with the main hall, walking inside the entrance at the base and looking around he spots Sharo a ways away. Walking over towards him, slower now, Kesar tries to make up in his mind what he should say. As he gets closer Sharo stops talking to the small Grat next to him and turns towards Kesar.
?I am surprised my shaman, usually it is close to impossible to drag you from your reports and studies.?

Kesar nods and stands there for a few silent seconds before looking at the other Grat standing close and tossing his head.
?Go, come back later if it is needed.?

Sharo's crest raises for a second in surprise and nods, sending the Grat away and turns towards Kesar.
?This had better be good, because you do not normally act this way.?

?The spies we sent into the birds area have been grabbed and we have no idea what is going to happen to them.?

Sharo stiffens and stares at Kesar for a while before turning and walking away. Standing closer to a map on the wall Sharo looks at the distance between them and the place of the birds. Shaking his head again he says harshly.
?They were careless and deserve it.?

Kesar looks at Sharos back and sighs softly. Turning away he leaves the last report to himself and walks away, leaving Sharo to think to himself.

-------------------

On the plains

The Grat who were in charge of keeping watch over the animals they used as food on the plains were seeing something amazing. The animals they had been keeping were growing larger. Many of they were several times the size of Grat anyways but now they were even bigger, almost twice what they were before.

One of the Grat who watched over the heard of deer had an idea that he convinced a few others to help him try without spreading it around. As the deer grew larger and their racks bigger they also became more pointed and spread out, in response the deers necks and legs growing more powerful and thicker.

Unknowing to these relatively young Grat Kesar had come and used his new found powers on many of the young of the herd and kept animals over the last few seasons. For things like rabbits and other small things they got bigger before this sudden growth, as well as gaining a higher reproductive rate also.

The larger animals are different, and this is where the Young Grat are going to have a surprise. The deer they were looking at had a heightened aggressiveness and stronger legs to begin with as well as another major change that would keep them from being considered as deer from now on. While regular deer lost their horns every year these did not, they grew much like normal deer for the first two years if they lived that long but after that they grew a rack of horns that spread out wider and with a minimum of 14 points and this rack stayed with them till they died. All the Grat who watched over these Creatures had stopped calling them deer at all, instead calling them Shrage in their own tongue.

Gangari - 15/21 AP

"Do you understand your purpose child?" Gangari spoke in the darkness. "Yes, I think so," replied a deep gravelly voice. "Then what is your purpose?" Gangari asked. "To ensure the dead are taken care of," Replied the voice. "Good," said Gangari, "How are you to do so?"

After a few moments of thought the voice replied "Judge the dead so that the worthy may rise to judge the living."

Gangari and the creature stepped out of the shadows. The Tabula Rasa was a tall and imposing figure with its mask and cloak intended to induce unease in mortals. "Then go and carry out your purpose. See that mortals fear the crimes once again."

The Tabula Rasa dissapeared into the darkness off to begin its work.

At the end of the month it would appear upon the Luug throne within Qartog's Manor. Waiting to see if a mortal would dare approach him in the chosen home of death. A place he decided fit his purpose in this world for when mortals inevitably came to understand him and his work.

[hr]

The Aetherial Collective

In the first settled ground of the Aetherial Collective sweeping changes came. Walls of shining silver metal rose from the ground surrounding the main settlement and a grand acropolis was constructed where the homes of administrators previously sat before being torn down for space. These administrators were quickly moved and their jobs were resumed. Cobblestone began to be placed over dirt roads by Luug settlers. And finally in the new towers around the settlement something that was seen as an odd event occurred, the strange bees that had been seen during the winter began to form large hives in them, taking over spaces supposedly intended for bells. They were peaceful and didn't seem to respond to attempts to harvest wax or honey, going about their business in the presence of people.

Though this was an odd land and a different time the city and its new docks were beginning to feel like home.

Though the origin of the knowledge of anatomy that was being spread to apothecaries and assistants was unknown it was believed by most who saw it that it was related to the hushed experimentation being carried out somewhere in the collective. Knowledge of the experimentation was common though few knew where it was being carried out or what they were experimenting with.

The anatomical knowledge after being distributed was already being looked into by apothecaries. For the most part they already knew how to keep people alive but wounds were still a problem, the body fixing itself in sleep didn't help someone bleeding to death.

- Create the Tabula Rasa. (DC7, autosucceed)

Standing at seven feet tall when visible this creature is an odd thing. Its skeleton appears to be made of polished black onyx with bands and streaks of reddish impurities appearing. The fingers of the creature are made of obsidian and on a mental command can extend into sharp claws shaped like flensing blades. The eyes of the creature are polished moonstones that are perfect spheres. The flesh of the creature is made of a grey coloured beeswax that has been purified and sculpted over the rest of the creature save for its eyes. It wears a mask upon its face made of thick polished Jet that has been shaped like an unordinary human's with a neutral expression. On its form it wears a hooded robe made of solidified shadows that makes it nearly invisible in the darkness and handily covers its form save for the hands and face.

While not impossible to kill this creature it isn't truly alive in the first place so in certain conditions it can resurrect or heal itself. If left in the sun it will slowly repair itself, the head or largest mass slowly generating material until it returns to its original physical size at which point it will return to "life." If the creature exposes itself to fire it will heal in a similar way though faster.

The creature exists to determine who becomes a revenant upon death. It seems to be omniscient of the facts surrounding death, the side of both the killer and the victim. This allows it to judge whether or not the person should be raised and allowed to seek vengeance. The Tabula Rasa also exists to kill revenants should they go off goal or go insane and attempt to use the gift given to them for something such as immortality or wanton murder.

To a Corvan or creature capable of perceiving spirits his form will appear in a transparent fashion walking near revenants or in the case of a group of them working together a single one will be visible amongst them.

- Bring Revenants into the world. (DC11, roll succeeded last turn)

When a sentient is murdered there is a chance that they will once again rise. They will awaken within their grave and rise from it. After awaking their mind will be given certain relevant information. Usually as simple as the location or locations of their killer or killers. And then they are filled with a purpose, to carry out justice for their death.

Though they are all slightly different they come into this world empowered. The usual things they are reborn with are inhuman strength and endurance as well as unnatural senses to assist them in carrying out their goal.

Should they be "killed" in this form they will rise again on the next full moon unless their body is consecrated by a priest. This consecration process usually involves burning their corpse. Once consecrated they will lose the ability to rise again.

Once they complete their goal they will drop back into the slumber of death and their respective afterlife, their bodies once again becoming inanimate corpses.

In terms of a weakness, weapons forged from an alloy of iron and nickel seem to be particularly effective. As for a surefire way to defend oneself, the only way to avoid this wrath completely is for true repentance.

King Indraj-Alika, Grand Ajivha, Kingdom of Ajivha

"Are you sure they fixed all the holes?" Queen Didana asked, staring suspiciously at the court ceiling as if it might collapse again at any moment, "Who knows where these foreign builders learned their trade?"

"I'm sure they were quite reliable, dear," the King sighed wearily, "My most talented architects were able to vouch for their skill and apparently they knew techniques even our best weren't aware of."

"Your Majesty," a guard suddenly appeared besides the pair, "There are two diplomats out here from the Aetherial Collective who wish to speak with you urgently. They say they've been waiting for rather a long time,"

"Really?" Indraj replied in surprise, "Bring them in, after all the help the Collective has given us over the last month we owe their people a favour,"

After a few moments two men were brought in. One was a young man of Ajivhan descent with brown eyes and black hair, he wore a green and vaguely Ajivhan uniform with a bronze star on the back of it.

The other man was tall and had less visible features as they were obscured by the armour he was wearing, a suit of bronze coloured plate mail whose ornate appearance and lightness would imply it was ceremonial. On his hip was a long bladed tulwar made of the same metal.

As they approached Indraj and his wife, they simultaneously bowed and spoke "Vazin" in a respectful tone.

"Welcome," the King replied, smiling at the mention of his lesser used title, "Before anything else, I must repeat my gratitude to your people for helping us fix up the city. I have a chest of treasure which you are welcome to take back to your leaders, if you wish."

He gestured with a hand, and a pair of guards heaved out a wooden chest that seemed to be bulging with gold.

"Would it not be grand," he continued, "If the children of Ajivha were reunited under one banner?"

The man in the uniform smiled and then replied "It would be sir it would be." he turned his gaze to the chest and continued "And that's not necessary we were happy to help the city. Such coin should perhaps be used for the repair."

"Thank you," Indraj exclaimed, surprised at their refusal, "Is there anything else you wish for in exchange?

"I've heard of some kinds of guns being used by the empire that we don't have. Perhaps some of those for our army?"

"We have a few," the King replied modestly, "I'll see that a small cache is put together. Now there something else I would like to talk about,"

He brought a map up from somewhere besides him and showed the two men.

"I call it the Ajivhan Union, a confederation of the three Ajivhan states: the Kingdom here, Nova Ajivha and Lyseria, and your Collective. Together with a common currency and economy, not to mention immigration policy, Ajivha would be once more a strong voice in the world. What would you say to that?"

The man in the uniform stared at the map for a few moments before responding "I can't speak for our leaders on that, but I think we would be amenable to that. How would Aurora fit in?"

"We would remain part of the Auroran family of nations," Indraj shrugged, "It keeps the peace and allows us access to more than half the world's markets. Besides," he gave a conspiratorial grin, "We already control our own affairs out here anyway, whatever they think back at the home islands,"

"Okay," the uniformed man said, "If you give me something to send back to my leaders about this I can bring it to them." The man looked to his left at the armoured man and then quickly looked back "Ah yes, I nearly forgot. My name is Ahzek Reman and this fellow next to me is Artellus. Artellus has volunteered to act as a guardian to your family should you so desire." Artellus the armoured man kneeled to Indraj and spoke "I offer my life."

"A dossier of the relevant information will be prepared for your leaders," the King nodded in reply to Ahzek, before turning to Artellus, "If you are willing to become a subject of this land, I will gladly accept your offer. Have you much experience with personal protection?"

"I've guarded people before but I don't have long term experience. And sir, I'm perfectly willing to rejoin Ajivha."

"Perfect," Indraj smiled, "My other men will introduce you to the place, you are dismissed for now,"

Emperor Maximus I, Stowhurst, Kingdom of Mereton

The congregation fell silent as the Head Priest of Aurora took to the podium. Ramous was almost ninety, having far out-lived his two ill-fated predecessors, but his quavering voice hadn't lost it's fervour.

"In name of our Father, whether Matthias, Lysei or Gangari, do thus you take Princess Aelia of Verde to be your lawfully wedded wife."

"I do,"

"And in name of our Father, whether Matthias, Lysei or Gangari, do thus you take Prince Cyneheard of Mereton to be your lawfully wedded husband."

"I do,"

"I now pronounce you man and wife,"

~

After the wedding celebrations, Maximus found himself back in the palace along with the King in his private quarters, discussing affairs of state over roasted snacks.

"So, how does your government work?" Edgar asked, "It is complicated how there are individual parts such as Ajivha and Padonia, which make up the whole nation."

"Well, there are two levels of government in Aurora, Imperial and Provincial," the Emperor replied authoritatively, "Each province has a wide berth to be governed in the way they choose, many of our oldest are duchies or archduchies overseen by a number of nobles and local councils. Some newer provinces on the other hand are free states, where they elect their government, or kingdoms in the case of formerly independent monarchies,"

"So that would be the fate of Mereton?"

"Yes, an autonomous kingdom that would remain fit for you to rule, with the exception of a few reserved privileges such as foreign policy," Maximus nodded, "You would have automatic membership of the Trade Federation through Aurora, and also be able to send a number of representatives to the Imperial Parliament in Nova Verde. I believe you would be entitled to around sixty freemen under our current rules and any of your sons or lords could vote in our debates,"

"And dragons?"

"A batch of hatchlings would be shipped to you at your earliest convenience,"

"Well, after seeing the magnificent beast you rode in on, I can't say no to that. I'll sign your treaty."

Aerith, Silverclaw

Day by day, Aerith felt more uneasy especially within her own home. The family that she once thought she knew drifted in and out of the estate just as Khyber mentioned to her. As much as she wanted to be out of the plot, she knew there would be no stopping a Krakari like Khyber. It would be a matter of time but if Khyber was involved then it was inevitable. She knew it was a mistake going to the abandoned shrine by herself and now Aerith couldn't skirt around Khyber's plot which was ultimately Yoren's plot. She had never seen the Krakari or gotten the pleasure to know him either but from what she heard, he was not a Krakari to cross. But what concerned her the most was how a steadfast soldier like Khyber was swayed by Yoren so easily.

Aerith put on her finest clothes although because she was tall, they always looked a bit awkward on her. Aerith felt awkward dressing up for a meeting with the council but like Khyber's plot, it would be no getting out of it either. Today would be the day that Aerith start her official training to be Matriarch of the family and because she was Krakari, a party was being thrown for her. She would have had to do this sooner but the war in Ray-Das delayed that and in a way, she had hoped that such a ceremony would have been forgotten. Yet, a few moments later, she was being escorted into the Hall of Raptors.

Past the large, wooden door were the families of the Krakari and all of their representatives applauded as Aerith entered the Hall. She looked around as she was escorted in, wondering who was Severyn and who she could trust among the sea of Krakari but she could not find either so easily. Food and drink had already been passed around, she could smell wine in the air along with the joyous laughter of some but her grandfather stood stoically when Aerith entered.

"It has been a long time coming but I am proud to formally introduce my granddaughter as the Matriarch of the next line of Aquilas!" Her grandfather announced. "It is good to finally see you back home, Aerith."

The crowd applauded once more before they were hushed.

"I..." Aerith paused, stealing a glance at her parents before looking back at her grandfather. "I proudly accept your decision. I will carry on the work of my family until the next line succeeds me because even if a feather is plucked-"

"The wing must move on." The crowd said ceremoniously.

[hr]

A few more hours passed as the ceremony transitioned into a feast within the Hall of Raptors. More exotic food and wine was being passed among the numerous families. Of course, Aerith had to greet every single of one of them as was tradition. Apparently in her absence, a husband for Aerith had been picked for her by her family yet she had yet to meet him. Aerith was not amused at that notion but she had to carry on. After some more introductions and meetings, Aerith was finally alone with her grandfather while the other families were celebrating. The Kraai were mysteriously missing from the party to which Aerith knew why. Still, Aerith focused on the conversation with her grandfather which may be the last time they would ever speak.

"I'm very glad you decided to change your mind." He said, looking at her warmly. "For a moment there, I thought you were going to really follow Khyber's path. You are the oldest and the strongest of the next line. A Matriarch like that deserves to lead the family. Wouldn't you agree?"

"Of course." Aerith said obediently. "I needed to exact revenge and when that was done, I realized what I had to do. I've always wanted to make our family proud."

"You didn't have to cross the channel to do that, you know." Aeryn laughed and placed an arm around Aerith. She laughed along with him. "You would have been fire here and this ceremony would have happened sooner but seeing as how... matured you have become, maybe killing a few halflings was the right choice. Who knows, we may need you with the Grat in the future."

Aerith looked half-surprised at Aeryn. She knew of the Grat and their little war with the Luug along with rumors of a spy rotting somewhere beneath Silverclaw but this intention was revealing.

"We must tread carefully. Our people have seen enough war as it is." Aerith said as diplomatically as she could.

"That is true, although some of us do not share that notion." Aeryn said bluntly, looking through Aerith with his sharp eyes. "And some of us have not seen enough to truly understand the situation that our nation lies in. A powerful country to the south and a land-grabbing nation to our east does not exactly help us fall asleep easy. Changes must be made which is why I am glad you will be the one to lead the next generation."

"I hope that I will lead them well." Aerith said dismissively before trying to get back on topic of the Grat. "But what of the Grat? I only heard rumors that their spies were caught. Are those true?"

"Ah, yes." Aeryn nodded. "We've already sent a letter to the Aurorans and their parliament about this little issue. I'm sure they will respond soon enough and to keep things civil we sent a letter to those scoundrels themselves. We used a human messenger of course and in turn he will pass it on to several Luug we know inside Highcrag."

"And if they refuse?" Aerith asked curiously.

"Oh we count on it." Aeryn said plainly.

[hr]

Krakari embassy, Nova Verde

A letter or rather numerous letter arrived at the embassy and was dispatched by messengers to not only the Parliament but some directed to the Emperor himself. The exact details of the letter were unknown until they would be opened but the messengers carried with them gloomy faces as they had an idea of what were its contents and it wasn't good.

[hr]
High Crag, Grat territory

A human messenger arrived with a letter with the official seal of the Raptor States and addressed to the leader of the Grat. He was obviously paid his weight in Krakari gold as he punctual and also capable of making his way around the cavernous halls. He told the Luug to pass the letter on their Grat occupiers who would in turn pass it on to their leaders and he didn't just tell any Luug but Luug officials who had a history with dealing with the Raptor States before although that was now a bygone time.

To our dear allies,
A slight has been dealt by the Grat-Shae. We have caught their spies attempting to steal what is not theirs and we, as a people, will not take that lightly. This was a traitorous act not befitting of a member of the Trade Federation so we ask that it is in the best interest of the civilized members of this union, to embargo this nation or terminate their position within the Federation. We expected better from such people but this invasion of privacy goes far beyond simple espionage. Unless firm resolution is given, an escalation is in order by our people. Please resolve this issue or we will.

-The Raptor States

To whom it may concern,
We have your spies and soon we will know more about them along with your nation. If you have any more agents within our nation or any other nation, tell them to leave and return to their homeland. We will not take this lightly so be warned and be careful what you do next. Withdraw all troops from Highcrag or there will be consequences.

Aetherial Collective

With a few corpses handy for practice, the art of surgery was perfected by the Corvans. It would take more time to train surgeons, however. More was achieved successfully behind closed doors, though what the rest of the world would not find out for a while yet.

Aurora

Two new Auroran settlements were erected in Nova Aurora and Padonia respectively, to allow yet more living space for the bulging human population. New factories sprung up across the land at the same time, powered by Gangari's steam gift, producing all sorts of useful products. There were other developments, after extensive rebuilding Cytundeb was officially reopened as a citadel, now open to traders from any nation who wish to set up shop there, as had been originally intended before the Luug took the island by force. Finally the Kingdom of Mereton joined the Commonwealth of Aurora as it's twenty first province, although by agreement of both sides the Kingdom would remain more independent of Imperial government than any other previous newcomer.

Grat Shee

The Grat dedicated the second month of Spring to research, implementing a technique of creating crude glass, a method of communicating with the forest around them and a complete dossier of the Luug's strengths and weaknesses. Plans were also successfully drawn up for riding Shrage and Luug spawning pools.

Raptor States

Angered by the impudence of the Grat Shee, the Raptor States deployed their standing army in readiness in Silverclaw, whilst garrisoning their borderlands with the Grat. Along with a pair of carefully worded letters, the Krakari attempted to gain information from their new captives but the Grat were well-trained and let slip nothing of importance. At the same time, a new band of travelling Apothecaries were trained and released ready to due their duty, whilst yet another fearsome firearm was produced by the Krakari army, this one the Gatling Gun.

Gods

Gangari

Seeking more justice in the world of mortals, Gangari decided to bring the Revenants into existence, a horrifying visage of vengeance that could only be halted by true repentance, or by destroying the ghast entirely. These spirits would be overseen by the Tabula Rasa, a constantly watching eye to ensure they would do their duty and nothing else.

Lord Deputy Roland Olin, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

Roland grinned to himself, with the Emperor away in Mereton it was almost too easy to take charge of events back in the capital. Almost. In front of him lay two letters, each addressed to their respective nations:

To our dear allies, the Raptor States,

The Commonwealth of Aurora is most aggrieved to hear of your troubles with the Grat Shee, the Emperor himself was very disappointed after an apparently productive meeting earlier this year with the nation. Accept this gift of dragons as a token of our support, as well as our own dragon riders who will willingly provide training in their sport. I personally will write a letter of displeasure to the Grat Shee as soon as possible.

Yours truly,

Lord Deputy Roland Olin
To our friends, the Grat Shee,

The Commonwealth of Aurora is most surprised and disappointed to learn that spies belonging to your nation were discovered last month in the country of the Raptor States. As our partner in the Trade Federation, the security of the Raptor States is of the utmost importance to Aurora and any aggression towards the Krakari will be taken as an act of war against the Imperial Throne. We strongly suggest amends are made towards the Raptor States in order to deescalate the situation.

Yours truly,

Lord Deputy Roland Olin
He sealed each letter carefully and then gave them to a pair of messengers, who would be sent out by dragon at once to deliver their packages. Once they had left the room, he started to pace back and forth, looking at the map of Aurora on the wall, newly updated the day before after word from Mereton reached Nova Verde. He muttered each of the provinces name's one-by-one.

Archduchy of Nova Ajivha
Archduchy of Nova Aurora
Archduchy of Samosa
Duchy of Cytundeb
Duchy of the Kashim Isles
Duchy of Lyseria
Duchy of Maia
Duchy of Medegarde
Duchy of Pesh
Duchy of Sirigarde
Duchy of Suda Aurora
Duchy of Tian
Duchy of Toro
Free City of Xule
Free State of Albur and Ithene
Free State of the Deep Tribes
Free State of Padonia
Kingdom of Ajivha
Kingdom of Mereton
Kingdom of Ray-Das
Principality of Oilean Uisce

Twenty one in all, and he would rule every single one. He might not have Imperial blood in his veins but he could direct the Verde family like a puppet, as his instrument. Was it really time? The Zayin had said so, he had to trust in her. With a wave of his hand he called in a nearby guard, personally selected for loyalty and also because he was not a drider.

"Give out the message to our brothers," he smiled gleefully, "Operation Closing Net begins today!"

(Major) - Settle north of Padonia
(Major) - Settle south of Padonia

Grat shee, inside the manor

The first to notice him were the Luug who still lived in the manor, even if they did not realize at first that it was there. When one of them stepped up to pick him up off the throne and move him they found him moving back to the same spot without trouble. After a few days of them trying and not a few violent outbursts several Grat were brought in to see what they thought. Standing in front of the being on the throne Frune frowns and walks closer to take in more of the creatures looks before waving at it and asking in a voice not expecting to be answered.

"Who are you and what are you?"

The Statue-like Creature shifted in its seat and spoke in a deep and gravelly voice "I am a creation of the Grand Spirit Gangari. My name as given is Tabula Rasa, mortal."

Frune freezes at the deep voice. Looking at it more closely he walks a few steps closer and tilts his head.

"What were you made to do?"

The Tabula Rasa stared into the eyes of the mortal and responded "Oversee death so that the dead may be judged and the worthy may judge the living."

Frowning slowly and shaking his head Frune looks around the room before saying.
"Judge the living for what?"

The Tabula Rasa chuckled, thinking the mortal ignorant of a need for judgment of anything else and then responded "The Sin of Murder in all of its forms to see that justice is carried out."

Frune's eyes widen and he turns to stare at the Luug against the far wall standing with the handful of Grat and turns quickly back to the creature.
"You, your the reason for the deaths in the Luug. The things coming from the pools to kill others."

The Tabula Rasa looked curiously at the reactions of the mortals before returning his Gaze to Frune "Yes. They sinned against man and god alike and were judged unworthy of the lives they held."

Frune stiffened for a second before loosening and nodding slowly.
"It kills those who kill others in anger. I and we have nothing against that, we do not kill from anger we only do for need."

Turning to the others standing in the hall he waves his hand.
"Send messengers of this."

Turning Frune asks the creature something that just came to him.
"What of war?"

The Tabula Rasa would have frowned if he could "That is something I cannot say in certainty. Men who are defending themselves have nothing to fear as do men walking into war he was told was righteous. But a commander who knowingly walks his men into a slaughter or a man who knows what he is doing is wrong need to be judged. If innocents are slaughtered to the last they must be taken care of but if a clan of bandits are killed he doesn't deserve retribution." The creature blinked his gemstone eyes realizing he was starting to think out loud. "War is muddy. There is righteous war and there is barbarism. Both look very similar and tend to be different things for those fighting it."

Frune nods slowly and looks to the side as he considers. Slowly looking at the man and sitting slowly on the floor he leans on his knees and scratches his chin.
"Confusing and true. I will warn my leader about the need to be sure and merciful. That will keep you and the things you seem to be leading away from us."

"That is good. It would be disappointing to see your people beyond these eyes."

Nodding Frune stays where he is as Grat slip out of the doors and away. He slowly asks.
"So, if we are attacked here will you help?"

The Tabula Rasa contemplated what the Grat meant before responding "Abandoning you in your time of need would leave me to be judged. If I see reason to help I will help."

Frune nods and keeps scratching his cheek slowly. Considering what was said and happy from it. Standing and stretching slightly he rolls his shoulders. Looking up at the creature and nodding at the throne he is on.
"You may stay here as long as you wish. This used to be the house of the god of death according to the Luug so another controller of death is more than welcome to stay."

The Tabula Rasa stood and walked towards Frune "I was drawn here by the dead god so that is good. The souls flow so freely here." As it reached the Grat it crouched and extended its hand to the Grat to shake "What is your name?"

Looking at the hand for a second and taking it Frune keeps his claws away from the creatures skin as he lightly holds its hand.
"Frune, just a craftsman of the spear tribe who was left here to look over it."

The Tabula Rasa shook the Grat's hand with its own being careful not to hurt the mortal "Frune it's nice to meet you. Would you mind telling me of your people? I've seen very little of them."

Frune nods and lets the hand go to sit, calling back for the people standing around to bring drink and food because this was going to take a while. Turning to the thing over him and nodding at the ground.
?Sit, let us talk about my people.?

Kesar, just inside the forest

Kesar stares at the letter that had been sent by the raptors when their spy's had been found out. As he does he again checks the map and shakes his head over the mistakes in the letter and what they mean. Slowly sliding his claw over the map net to him he circles the large city just outside the Grat land that their ally held. Staring at the name and shaking his head he decides to ignore that piece of the letter and takes in the first part. Sighing and standing Kesar slowly makes his way out of the hide up in the trees and turns to the runners next to the opening.

?Send messages into the Raptor state. Call back out spy's, it is time to leave that.?

The messengers look at each other, all of them knowing about the spy's that had been caught. One of them speaks up.
?What about the ones who were caught? What should they do about them??

Kesar shakes his head and waves his hand at them as he goes back inside the hide.
?If they can escape on their own than its fine. If not, they know what to do before any information is to be given out.?

As Kesar walks back inside and the messengers look at each other in confusion one of the older Grat speaks up, saying to the others quietly.
?Before telling none people anything, escape and kill those who tried to take it. Or kill yourself.?

All the messengers look at the older one and then each other, nodding slowly and most of them jumping down onto the forest floor and away to send the message to those still alive.

Gangari - 15/21 AP

Gangari sat in a valley outside of Silver claw, staring at the city and the land around it. Thoughts seemed to be dragging him here lately, he wasn't sure what it was but it was around here.

After a few hours he realized something was crawling onto his leg, a black lizard with white eyes and odd bony appendages coming from its back. Gangari looked at the thing with curiosity as it crawled onto his lap. It looked familiar to him, he had seen creatures with the same shape and colour in the marshes of the Yish but the eyes and the... they were wings or something like wings at some point but nature was breeding them out. The creature was different that much was clear, the wings would have to be a recent mutation in the species for it to be bred out like this the creature clearly wasn't designed for them. He slowly moved his hands towards the creature and picked it up gently and carefully. He stared into its eyes and it stared back giving the occasional hiss.

It had the touch of a god to it or one of its ancestors did. Judging by where the creatures had made their home and their appearance he guessed it was Qartog. The god of Death and the first god to Die. He was sad that he had never met her, his few discussions with Cawles about her easing little.

The creature appeared to be flawed, perhaps she had failed with them as he had in the past with other things. Perhaps he could correct them, make them something stronger and better the world again. Gangari poured his will into it and its species giving it wings and a venom sack, repairing its organs, and making it friendlier to mortals. Perhaps the mortals would find interest in them and remember the past.

Gangari's influence spread to two similar species as an unconscious act uniting them genetically. A black coloured lizard in the Yish marshes known for running on water by the Yish and known as pets by some of the Collective, and a black lizard in the forests of the Grat recognized as a tree climber.

Before Gangari returned to his wanderings he took the lizard he had altered in his hands and placed it upon a table in Cawles home. He left it to sleep in an open position, she would see it upon entering her home, and hopefully like his gift.

[hr]

The Aetherial Collective

The Collective became relatively quiet again to the rest of the world but Life continued as normal for most. The fields were tilled and the forges were worked. The Yish'tai with the spring upon them returned to their hunter gatherer roots and began to work the marshlands for food and sport. The Luug in an unfamiliar land decided to finally explore their surroundings and many came to find they enjoyed fishing the coast with spears. In the original settlement or as it was now marked upon the map in which they were using to plan future expansion "Government district" several of the warehouses and workshops were co-opted along with their workers into a project which seemed to gather more and more whispers on a daily basis by those who weren't brought into the project's fold. Many of the human workers found themselves constructing kites in their off time and flying them in the fields around the city.

In the newly constructed buildings assigned to the apothecaries for their work training was going on. Apprentices were brought on and were trained in a new form of healing. These newly named Surgeons were trained with the intent that they were to serve beside the apothecaries working as partners with them so that each could focus upon their own methods.

Strands of drider silk and other fibers that were deemed acceptable were soaked in the Liquid Life solutions as it was found to prevent festering and other ills that afflicted wounds. The fibers were then dried and used to stitch wounds closed and arteries bound. They were then treated with more regular methods after the danger of them bleeding to death passed. Though there were few at risk of that with the lands at peace, it was mostly drowning and disease out here.

- Create a non-sentient species smaller than an elephant.
- Action is difficulty 9, with a cost of 3 AP. Total domain bonus applied to the roll is +6.

The species that Qartog's Basilisk is being based upon physically and mentally is the Common Basilisk Lizard (of South America). The simplest changes are those that have been made in regards to its colouration. Its eyes have been made black as pitch and have been made to function as those of the Corvan, giving them Aether Sight the ability to perceive spirits and the like. The scales of the creature have been made black with white patterns upon them in their natural form, while on the hunt however their scales change colour to match their surroundings due to having a mechanism similar to that of the chromatophore.

Physically they have been modified quite a bit. The legs and claws have been modified so that they can climb with ease, also having developed adhesive pads like that of cave lizards. The organs have been modified to be more efficient with food and oxygen so that that the lizard requires less to function. A gland has been added to it's body which produces a paralytic toxin with mildly acidic properties that the creature can spit accurately at a distance. The toxin activates upon contact with skin and paralyzes the area in which it makes contact.

The most drastic change to it physically is the addition of a pair of wings. Large and powerful they spread out from its back like those of a dragon and are constructed so that they may allow the creature to fly for distances. The wings are dark grey in colour and do not change colour while in use.

Mentally the creature though about the same as it's original form is different, it is friendly towards sentients and is quite easily domesticated. It also shows quite a spark of intelligence and tends to be curious.

Aetherial Collective

The Aetherial Collective continued their secret research program with a triplet of successes. They also researched component miniaturization and implement surgeons in institutions across Collective lands.

Aurora

The continued expansion of Aurora continued almost as fast as the letters sent out to the Grat Shee and Raptor States, with their moving to meet those of the Krakari on three fronts. The Krakari themselves gratefully accepted the gift of the dragons provided to them, whilst the troops of the Aurorans arrived to monitor the Grat-Raptor border.

Grat Shee

Any remaining spies still free in the Raptor States were withdrawn, however this would not affect the ones in captivity. Meanwhile Riding Shrages and Luug swamping pools were both successfully implemented, whilst research into spyglasses and communication with the forest also yield useful results.

Raptor States

The Raptor State's research into cannons and a new banking system were great successes, however their attempts to improve agriculture failed after poor weather. Their integration of dragons with their first standing army went without a hitch however and their interrogation of the captured Grat spies finally confirmed that the group had indeed been sent by the Grat high command.

Gangari - 21/21 AP

Gangari's endless wandering at times amused himself. He didn't need to learn and he could be doing greater things by working beside mortal leaders. But wandering put him at ease, the wilderness had an order of its own in its chaos and everything found purpose in its existence.

The rare occasion he met someone out here was a happy event. The person usually knowing little of him and him going unrecognized for what he was meant that he could talk to the mortal as an equal. Before parting ways he would usually offer them a small bauble or trinket that he would say he found on the road. Most would accept but some wary of him would decline.

A week into the new summer Gangari felt his strength to act return again. He hadn't been watching the world as of late and was unaware of recent developments between the nations. So deciding that he would try to ease the hunger of the Krakari again unleashed knowledges of easy to find or produce materials and chemicals that they could work into the soil of their croplands into the minds of their farmers and chemists.

The Aetherial Collective - Rederick

Rederick stood proudly infront of the soldiers arranged infront of him. The first to be changed by his Collective's scientists and the first to receive suits of the new armour. They were made better by the efforts of their people and would better be able to carry out their duties in the service of their people.

Each of the Legionaries was wearing a suit of silver armour designed like that of some of the heavier Ajivhan plate armours. It completely obscured their appearance and upon inspection would appear to lack any openings or chinks. Each suit was marked by the individual wearing it with metallic bronze symbols that showed which family they were part of and which commander they directly reported to.

Rederick began to bellow out at them the honor of what they were now. "Men altered by man and god alike." The speech was prepared for for him by Jubal weeks ago. He was of course proud of them and the work that had led them to this point, he just wasn't one for this level of formality.

As he finished his speech it came time to lead them on parade through the settlement, another thing that had been planned. As he moved through the streets with them behind him their were surprised cheers from some of the children on the streets, it occurred to him that they hadn't actually bothered to inform any beyond the legionaries that this was occurring today.

As the men moved in their armour the perceived weight of it didn't seem to affect them. The bulk seemed to be a mere cosmetic choice of the design. Another ingenious aspect of their works Rederick thought.

A few hours later the men began to tire and the parade was brought to an end. Men and women returned to their homes and removed their armour, unfusing the pieces of armour as they took it off.

After an hour of rest Rederick and the selected Legionaries reassembled at the Acropolis out of their armour. War Tactics needed to be officially changed to accommodate the changes to their capabilities. As Rederick talked he noticed something obvious that had somehow gone unnoticed to him. The eyes of those that had undergone the process had turned a silver colour. It unnerved him a little but it was nothing serious, they seemed fine.

Days later when he underwent the process himself he would discover that the colour of the spiral markings on his back had become silver as well.

Emperor Maximus I, south-west of Oilean Uisce

"Father, look over there!"

The Imperial Family and their many attendants were flying back from Mereton to the Auroran Archipelago on a fleet of dragons, swooping and diving over the open ocean. Maximus's beast was out front, his loyal rider steering the reptile through the air whilst Prince Aurelius sat in front of the Emperor, laughing and shrieking with joy every time the rider got the dragon to turn. Now he was pointing to the west with a curious gaze.

Maximus peered into the distance following his son's finger, he spied something large in the horizon. He couldn't make out the shape at first but it soon became much greater, blotting out the sun as it passed over them. He realised with a jolt that the thing was coming towards them.

"Matthias' blood!" their rider cried out as he saw the giant bird approaching out of the corner of his eye, he pulled the reins of the dragon downwards to avoid it. The bird swerved around and then came back towards them, claws outstretched.

"No!" Maximus shouted as the dragon's left wing was torn to shreds, the beast letting out a terrible cry. It began to spiral downwards, unable to sustain it's great weight without both it's wings. Aurelius clung tightly to his father and Maximus held him back, suddenly remembering his own flights as a child with his uncle Octavius as they dropped like stones.

"If only we had that ability now," were his last thoughts before the dragon and it's occupants crashed into the swirling ocean.

Lord Deputy Roland Olin, Nova Verde, Isle of Maia

The Lord Deputy entered Parliament, the members falling to silence at once. An hour ago news that a grave announcement was to be made had spread around the houses and as rumoured, Roland had appeared at exactly mid-day. He nodded to the Speaker of the House, who gave way for him to take centre stage.

"Honourable Lords and Gentlemen," he started, "With a great sorrow in my heart, I must announce that yesterday the dragon carrying the Emperor and his heir crashed into the ocean near Oilean Uisce. Foul play is suspected at this point. There were no survivors."

Gasps emerged from around the chamber, others sat in shocked silence. Roland gave them a few moments for the news to settle in, before continuing.

"Under the succession acts of 714, the first rights to the Imperial Crown pass to the senior male of the House of Verde, whoever he may be,"

"But there no men of Verde left," Lord Omar interjected, "Maximus and his young son were the last two,"

"That is... not quite correct," the Lord Deputy replied slowly, "It has been a well kept secret but nevertheless true that the late Kaius III did in-fact have a son. Julius de Verde is no bastard, but the last legitimate issue of our previous-to-last Emperor. Julius, arise."

The gauche young man silently arose from the backbenches, coming to join Roland in his ceremonial red robes. Now reaching manhood at twenty five, his dark black curls and well-defined face was unmistakeably that of Kaius'.

"The Emperor is dead! Long live Emperor Julius!" the cries came from some members of Parliament, others including Omar and Aldren stood silently with their head's bowed. There would be a confirmation ceremony later that week of course as tradition dictated but there was little doubt who would be selected.

"I tell you now," Roland shouted above the chaos, "We will find whoever committed this terrible crime of regicide and make them and their kin pay forever more!"

King Indraj-Alika, Grand Ajivha, Kingdom of Ajivha

Indraj-Alika sat down for his weekly meeting with the Council of Ajivha, the highest body in the Kingdom after himself. The ministers were mainly learned elders who had been recommended to him by the local authorities of the land, or the Auroran government. Today's topic for discussion was how to use a recent tax windfall as a result of resurgent trade as the Great Luug War receded into the past.

"The Council's recent inquiry suggests that the Ajivhan economy would greatly benefit from increased infrastructure spending, particularly if the money was invested in decreasing travel time between settlements. The report suggested two possibilities for investment."

"Granted," the King nodded, "What are the options?"

"The first, building a series of canals from Nau to Grand Ajivha, then to the west coast," the man replied, "The second, extending the existing rail across the central belt of Ajivha."

From the corner of the room one of the elders spoke up.

"If you extend the rails across the countryside into the rest of Aurora and the Raptor States with secondary and tertiary lines you could decrease reliance on the water and increase trade dominance over the other states."

The elder then stood up and the man's disguise faded away, revealing that he was Gangari.

"Father of Ajivha!" a simultaneous gasp emerged from around the table, several of the ministers fell to their knees before Gangari's visage. Indraj was somewhat less phased, it was hardly the first time the god had appeared to his demiurge after-all.

"Gangari," the King smiled in recognition, "If the Krakari and our provincial brethren will agree, that could work. What of the Collective though? We have been making overtures to reconnect to our separated brothers on the other side of the Channel, would you be able to convince them to join our railway network?"

Gangari smiled at the king and the reaction of the council members "It would take little to convince them. After tracks began to be laid I noticed that one of their workhouses had begun looking into their own engines. With something so useful I wouldn't be surprised if they were expecting me to ask."

"A technology exchange could be arranged," one of the elders interjected.

"Good," Indraj nodded in reply, "Before I forget, thank you on behalf of Ajivha Gangari for your intervention against the wrath of Cyth'raul. The world is surely a better place without her greed or jealousy,"

"You're all welcome, I only wish I had seen it in time to prevent it." Gangari bowed to those assembled, "I think without her corruptions peace will soon have a chance to replace war."

"Perhaps, if the Grat are able to keep to themselves," the King replied darkly, "I assume you have heard that their spies were discovered in the Raptor States. The Grat will drag the world back into yet another war, if they aren't careful,"

A troubled expression crossed Gangari's face as he responded "No, This is the first I've heard about that. I haven't looked in on the north for awhile. I should check on this..." And just as quickly as Gangari appeared he dissapeared, fading into the air as he usually did.
