Naked Cowboy runs for Mayor of New York City

The Naked Cowboy, an New York City entertainer who wears only his underwear, boots, and a cowboy hat, makes approximately one thousand dollars a day in tips from tourists wanting to take pictures, has taken a stand saying he will run for mayor of New York City against current Mayor Michael Bloomberg. His platform is based on transparency in politics, and his goals include $10000 interst free loans to over 1000 small businesses, taxi call buttons on street corners, energy efficiency, and a Times Square Chapel that would marry both gay and straight couples, rivalling the business of Vegas.

As for campaign funds, the frugal candidate joked: "I have no expenses. I own 40 pairs of underwear, a car and a suitcase." Then he took a poke at his wealthy opponent: "He's got billions and what does he buy with it? Publicity."

I'm a native New Yorker of 18 years, and I have to say I have a particular fondness for this guy. <3

That being said, does his ability to make several hundred in cash a day just by standing in Times Square in his skivvies with a guitar strapped across his chest mean he'd make a good mayor? Noooooottttttt so much.

(Taxi call buttons? Horrible idea. People'd push 'em just for fun, and either the ca drivers would ignore it, thus ignoring the possibility of a real fare, or they'd all rush over, clogging up NYC's already-clogged streets. You know what? If you don't know how to call a cab in NYC, take the bus, take the subway, or just get off your butt and walk.)

Actually, you know, I'd like to amend my position slightly - after having gone to his campaign website and watched his videos, looked over his publications, well...the man's no idiot. Not that a BS in Political Science is really enough of a qualification to be mayor of one of the world's most well-known and influential cities, but still, he's actually got a lot more going for him that oh-so-sexy long hair and a rockin' tighty-whitey-clad bod.

So, mayor? Probably not. But some sort of political office while he works his way up through to mayor? I don't see why not! :]
