Mass effect 2. I imagine the Normandy getting fucked up in the beginning would have meant more to me if I'd played Mass effect 1 first, but it just ended up being cool expolsions, while my freind sitting next to me watching was basically in tears, because he thought everyone had died. :')

WArcraft 3 : played warcraft 2 after

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Had fun with Deus Ex even if it really shows it's age. Have yet to touch Invisible War
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Having fun with Oblivion. Haven't got Skyrim for PC so Mod's are a nice touch
Fallout 3 - I regret playing these ones. Was not fun at all.
Duke Nukem 3D - I kind of preferred Duke's character from Duke 3D onwards. Ok platformers, but not much else.
Doom 3 - Didn't play Doom 1 but fell head over heels in love with Doom 2.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape - DEAR GOD WHY!?!? Music is nice but difficulty reaches bullshit levels
Resident Evil 5 - Only played the first game. It was fun. Gloriously hammy.
MediEvil 2 - Introduced me to my favourite game of all time

I can't think of anything recently, except for Uncharted 2, which I got because I didn't have a PS3 when Uncharted 1 came out (man, going back and playing the first game was like going into a time machine where the past had the same great ideas with half the budget).

But if you count old school Nintendo games, I guess I played Mario 64 / Ocarina of Time / Kirby 64 when I was 5 or 6 and later played older games in the series, but I don't look at those franchises the same way.

The Ys series is that series for me that simply made me think "why the hell didn't i play these games sooner!?"

Ys Seven was an awesome game, and my first Ys game. Charming characters/story, fast paced and frenetic gameplay, and AWESOME soundtrack had me hooked. After beating Seven, I found out 1,2, and 3 were also being released on the PSP, and I scooped those up in a heartbeat.

Once again, I was not disappointed. They were extremely fun and challenging, and seeing the evolution of the series up to 7 was great. I researched the franchise, bought and enjoyed Origins and even re-purchased 3 off of steam as well. Hunted down a copy of Ark of Napishtim for the PC with translation patch.

This series has been around for a wile, and I never really played them until 7. This series was one of the founding fathers of the action RPG, and I'm glad I got a chance to play them, save for 4 and 5. Have all the sound tracks too, because Falcom JDK are FUCKING AWESOME.

I COULD play 4 right now, but I'm eagerly awaiting Ys: Celceta (the true remake of 4) localization. One of my most anticipated Vita games.

Games that caused me to play the earlier games in the series:

- Splinter Cell Conviction
- Tomb Raider 4
- Silent Hill 2
- Red Faction: Guerilla
- Star Fox Adventures
- LOZ: Wind Waker
- Grand Theft Auto 3
- The Longest Journey: Dreamfall
- Half Life 2
- A Resident Evil game, goodness knows which, probably 4!

Anticipation of Sly 4 also had me purchase and play the original trilogy in preparation.

You should definitely try Resident Evil 2 and 3 in that case. They're... better as far as production values go! I consider them the pinnacle of the RE series; it's all been downhill since then.

Final Fantasy (after VII)
Ratchet & Clank (after Going Commando)
Jak & Daxter (after Jak II, I ment to get the original anyway)
Kirby (after Nightmare in Dreamland)
Metroid (after Fusion and Prime)

Needless to say after I get into a series I like to go back and experience how they got to where they are.

Oh man, your introduction to Mount and Blade was With Fire and Sword? That's rough man, I hope you found the predecessor to be actually good.

Very rarely do I ever jump into the middle of a series, but I will say that after playing Dark Siders II, I'm interested in checking out the first game. :p

It's not that bad. It's an awful M&B game, but it's better than a lot of the things on the market! Haha.
I liked it enough to check out the earlier ones, didn't I? So it can't have been too awful.

I've been planning to try out Drakengard ever since I played Nier.
Just listening to the Nier soundtrack right now actually. And now I'm all sad. Fuck.

[Ctrl+F] "Persona 3"

Called it. Yeah, Persona 3 for me as well- though technically I did play a good bit of the remake of the original Persona game first. It's more tolerable if you go into it recognising the spell names and the different Personae first!

Now I've played SMT: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga, both excellent games. Also Persona 4.

Kinda not the same, but Katawa Shoujo made me want to see what other Visual Novels there was.

There is a fair amount of good stuff that are translated

You raise a good point that is only really awful when compared to previous Mount and Blade games. However, it is a Mount and Blade game, and as such will be judged as one, and considered awful(at least by me). Well yeah, but my first Elder Scrolls game was Oblivion, which I hated, and I only checked out Morrowind because everyone said it was good so that stance is a bit iffy.

Persona 3 FES(for both Persona and SMT as a whole)
Crash Bandicoot 3
Wild Arms 3(remains my favorite of the series)
Metroid Prime 2 Echos
Spyro 2
Super Mario World

Now a days I try to start at the beginning,as most games I play are heavily story based, and I don't want to be left to of the loop story wise.

There are some things that aren't awful about it compared to the others!
Like...
Uh...
Everything is ridiculously expensive and it's hard to make any money at all?
Yeah, it's a pretty bad Mount and Blade game by that standard. Still pretty fun if you play it first. Haha.
And a lot people seem to have done that. But I got Morrowind, then wanted to play the ones before it.
[sub]I wouldn't recommend them. They have not aged well.[/sub]
