You raise a good point that is only really awful when compared to previous Mount and Blade games. However, it is a Mount and Blade game, and as such will be judged as one, and considered awful(at least by me). Well yeah, but my first Elder Scrolls game was Oblivion, which I hated, and I only checked out Morrowind because everyone said it was good so that stance is a bit iffy.
There are some things that aren't awful about it compared to the others!
Like...
Uh...
Everything is ridiculously expensive and it's hard to make any money at all?
Yeah, it's a pretty bad Mount and Blade game by that standard. Still pretty fun if you play it first. Haha.
And a lot people seem to have done that. But I got Morrowind, then wanted to play the ones before it.
[sub]I wouldn't recommend them. They have not aged well.[/sub]
Yeah it can still be a bit fun the first time you shoot a medieval warrior in the face, that can't be denied. While I wouldn't argue that they aged well, I still play, and quite enjoy(it's my favorite in the series actually), Daggerfall, other than the bugs, and some finicky skills, like the languages and Climbing, I still think it just offers the most to do. Though I guess it's hard for me to concretely say it's better than Morrowind because they go about making an Open world RPG in two totally different ways. Arena on the other hand, I'm tempted to say I would rather get hit in the nuts with a sledgehammer then play it again, but I know that it could kill me, and then I couldn't play Arcanum.

Hey, that's cool. I never could get into Daggerfall at all. Maybe this is kind of awful, but the graphics just throw me for a loop. I can tell it's an absurdly deep and complex game, but good lord. Those graphics.
Same with Arena, basically. Haha. I was like thirteen at the time, though, so maybe I ought to try them again...
Hmm...

Haha, same thing happened to me when I first played em, give Daggerfall a shot, it's pretty enjoyable, though mainly as a kind of DnD create your own story thing. Narrative isn't that great. Also, if you do try it again, be warned, that when the tutorial tells you how to fast travel, it ends. There is an odd bug that causes no more tutorial messages to pop up, though you have pretty much learned everything you need to know at that point. There is also a mod being made called DaggerXL, currently at part .199, Alpha stages yeah. It doesn't vastly improve the graphics, and it probably won't, but it will at least make em easier on the eye.

... I probably will try it again sometime. I was using a trackpad as well, last time, so that may be a part of it.
... I feel we have derailed this thread somewhat.

X-Com Apocalypse, i checked out the original but just couldn't get into it as much, one more week to the Fireaxis version though! Suikoden 3, didn't know much about the series but i decided to get the first 2, which was a bit of a quest (Suikoden 2 quickly became one of the hardest to find and most expensive psx games out there, but i was lucky enough to have a friend willing to trade me his, and the strategy guide to boot). Then my damn copy of 3 went missing before i could beat the other 2 to come back and play it.

That we have, that we have. Well, let's end it here than, not like anything will happen if we leave it as i-"walk the plank". Oh shit, the captcha is coming for me, run, save yourself!

I got Mass Effect 2 for free for buying Dragon Age 2. A few months later I bought Mass Effect 1 because I wanted choices from both to import to Mass Effect 3. I bought Dragon Age: Origins much later because I wanted choices to import to Dragon Age 2. I also picked up Just Cause during a Steam sale because I had so much fun with its sequel. It just doesn't have the same charm that the all the massive explosions from the second one had.

Breath of Fire II was the first I played in the series, so that got me interested in the first one. Also I played Mega Man II first, and kind of wish I hadn't gone back to the first one there. Others: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, Street Fighter II (obviously), Kid Icarus: Of Mths and Monsters for Gameboy, Might and Magic II, and I'm sure about a million others. I've been doing this since I was like three, so about twenty seven years.

Comedy Option: Chinese Checkers.

Fallout 3 made me buy the original Fallout.

And I had never heard of Mass Effect until I read a review for ME2, and I decided (very happily) to actually go and buy the 1st one first.
(which I loved, and then played 2 and 3)

For me it would definitely have to be Heavy Gear 2 and Battlezone 2: Combat Commander.

Jagged Alliance 2 was actually the first JA game I played, then I went back and played the previous two games in the series (yes JA2 is the third game). The others suffered from a lack of depth and refinement in comparison to JA2.

After playing VtM:B I went back and tried...is it Retribution? Whatever it was called it wasn't anywhere the awesomness of Bloodlines. Severe lack of Troika mojo is the biggest problem.

Skyrim made me check out Morrowind. Best game ever in my opinion.

OT: Fallout 2 made me check out Fallout. Daggerfall (TES2) made me check out Arena (TES). Monkey Island 2 made me check out Monkey Island.

See a pattern emerging here?

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
I got it the Christmas after its release in 1999, and instantly fell in love with the series (my opinion, no other series has topped it). so I went on a quest to find Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and did not find it until 2007 when I found it in a store for £4 (that store has now shut down) I remember the price because I had to beg for the money from my friends as I didn't have any on me and couldn't bare the thought of someone else buying it from underneath me.

I had to jump through a lot of hoops for that £4 but I have every single LOK game on PS1 and PS2. still waiting for LOK6 (or Legacy of Kain: The Dark Prophecy).

Too bad you can't play the original Neverwinter Nights. I'm talking about the online rpg that was on AOL in the early 90s, not the one everyone thinks I'm talking about. That game was the first non-MUD online game I had seen.

Devil may cry 3 made me check out the first two titles
Metal gear solid 2 made me check out the first and snake eater
Mass effect 2 made me check out 1 and subsequently 3
Splinter cell chaos theory made me check out 1 and 2.
Hitman Contracts got me into hitman 2 silent assassin

I'm quite used to jumping into series in the middle I must say.
