Scrubs... let's just ignore Season 9 ever happened, shall we?

The Pacific (mini-series, but still)

24 didn't end well. All that crap, just to build up for the movie -.-

Star Trek: The Next Generation had a sublime end to the series. My only criticism being that it actually ended...

By the time I got here there were 8 pages to go through, so sorry if someone has already said the following.

Bottom. Three series, lots of live shows. They didn't overkill it at all and they got a fitting ending ;)
Men Behaving Badly. Each series grew from strength to strength and ended at the perfect time, season 6, before the bore could kick in. It also made those extra two episodes they did years later actually mean something and make me want to go see them without thinking "God let it die already."

Avatar: The Last Airbender has one of the better endings, and overall story arcs, that I have seen. The writers had a lot of discipline, especially towards the end.
Agreed, at least for the first time I watched it. It peaked well, and had good old fashioned closure (Cf. e.g. Full Metal Alchemist. The guy should get the girl, damn it!). The second time I wasn't too sold on the central romance, so... well, might have to watch it again.

Not sure if this is a controversial choice, but Neon Genesis Evangelion. Of course, this is only true if what you mean by "just right" is "a depressing mind-f--k that fits perfectly with the rest of the show." But hey, for a whole week I felt wrong about life, and that doesn't happen too often, does it now?

And props for reminding me of Blackadder. Pretty sure that was the first time I cried watching a television show. I was 12 years old when I saw that.

I'd have to say scrubs, I really liked Azumanga's ending (The anime) I also liked the first season of black butler ending (anime) I dunno though, I don't watch too much TV

I thought that the UK version of Skins had a good ending.
They're doing season 5 of Skins right now... and it sucks balls, they've completely ruined it.

In my opinion although seasons 3-4 were still ok they should have ended it with the season 2 finale and the original cast of characters.

Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Is that including the movies because technically that brilliant last episode wasn't the ending for the TNG crew.
Since this thread is talking about TV series, movies won't play here.

FIREFLY had a good series-ending and closed up well with the movie "Serenity".
What??!!

Firefly didn't have a series-ending, it was canceled before even a season ending could be written or filmed.

Serenity was an okay movie, but it would have been far better the people that died had survived, so that they could leave open the possibility that Firefly could some how be picked up and started up again.

The only reason Firefly didn't continue is not just that Fox canceled it, they effectively grounded it in the dirt with their filthy (Edit: boots, not boats, boy I am tired) when the Sci-Fi channel and Joss Whedon offered to buy Fox's share of the rights from them after they canceled it, so Sci-Fi could continue it, Fox said no.

Since we are talking just television, let's leave Serenity out of it.

With Firefly:
There is nothing resolved on the series plot, who are the men with the hands of blue, what were the people, that were experimenting on River, hoping to create or do? What happens with the crew after the arching stuff is dealt with? The character(relationship) plots, nothing is resolved with them. The last episode, even if you watch them in the order that Joss intended, not Fox(they didn't even air the real pilot episode first), was just a regular episode with a regular episode plot.

Now, where is the good series ending?
But the ending to a series might spiritually be the movie that followed in which case why should we leave it out just because it's a movie?
Movies really aren't that different from TV in this kind of case.

Stargate SG-1, Stargate Universe, and arguably Heroes.
I would say SG-1 when it ended after season 7 or 8. While I enjoyed seasons 9 and 10, O'Neil was the main lynchpin in the overall story so once he left, I wasn't enjoying it as much.

I didn't like series 4 at all, it may just be because I didn't like the characters of the second generation that much in the first place but to me it lost a lot of the depth the first two series had.

Series 1 was about a bunch of teens who are fairly innocent who gradually start to realise that the world isn't as simple as they thought and

Series 2 was them being thrust into the real world and having to try and cope (e.g. the pregnancy and Chris's problem).

I might be reading too much into it but that's what I liked about them. Since then it's become whiny teens whining about their problems and party montages.

I don't care what people say, Scrubs ended perfectly on the finale of season 8. There never was a season 9. Never.

Seinfeld, Blackadder, Freaks and Geeks.
I vaguely remember Picket Fences ending okay but I don't remember what happened.

Generally my favourite shows I feel either ended too early (Arrested Development, Firefly, Veronica Mars, Better off Ted) or too late (Newsradio, Scrubs, Babylon 5, Heroes).

From this thread it seems the overall consensus is that UK is more likely to make shows that end 'right'.

Dude I know! IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED AT THIS:

WHY WOULD THEY KEEP GOING? THAT WAS PERFECT!
Scrubs could have skipped seasons 2 and 3 and you wouldn't have missed anything. JD and whatsherface together, now they're not, they they are, now they're not. It turned into Home and Away faster than HaA did. -.-

I actually can't name any TV show I like that hasn't ended on some sour note.

Carnivale, Firefly, Blackbooks, Jekyll, Rome was.. Actually Rome wasn't too bad. Two seasons is okay for that show. Deadwood maybe? Apparently that ended nicely, I still need to find the damn things. Could download, but I like the show. -.- If we're talking about anime then Ghost in the Shell and Monster might satisfy your criteria. I liked them, didn't feel the need for more shows to fill in the blanks.

Still raging over Carnivale lol

F.R.I.E.N.D.S had a great ending. It makes me wonder what they're all up to now(excluding Joey who got his own short-lived series).

couldn't have asked for a better ending to that show
Probably the best ending to a show I have ever seen. And talk about well written.

I think that's just because we have the BBC. It's government funded so no matter what it's always got a steady stream of money coming in, which makes them less tempted to do the whole 'string it our for another series because we need the money' thing like other commercial channels, and is also more inclined to give new shows a chance to get better even if they don't do so well straight away.

Mind you, it's not as if they never slip up. My Family should have ended around 10 years before it actually did, and I'm not sure they even have pulled the plug for good yet.

I liked Effy, Thomas and Freddie, JJ was likable but not particularly interesting, while Cook was the opposite, interesting but in no way likable. Whereas the rest of the 3-4 cast were nowhere near as good as Seasons 1-2. I will say this for them though, compared to what I can occasionally stomach of season 5, they were all at least good actors.
