Aw, Jesus. I started playing and got really, really sad. At first I was interested in watching the Escapist "in-crowd" evolution (that guy who said Furburt and thought it was old-school made me smile), but now I'm crying tears of nostalgia and old friends.

Putting aside the hipster/old man vibe, anybody here got a shoutout for Shivari? Aries_Split? Hey Joe? Jumplion? Saskwach? (continue list of people who joined in early 2008 ad infinitum)

*Sniffs* Shine on, Old Guard. You rocked. You wrote Odes to Staplers and your President Got Kidnapped By Ninjas.

Christ, I feel old now.

If I pretend to remember you, will you return the favour?
Who the hell're- But of course! How could I have forgotten my dear friend SonicWaffle? I must be going senile.

At age 17.
I find that amusing that you, my best and oldest friend (and most recognizable Escapist) is considered the Master of Oldskool at 17. What is Oldskool at seventeen, Goldeneye?

(I jest, of course, for I....am prick! As far as age goes, I never played what is Oldskool for my generation, my first console was a Mega Drive :-\)

When I chose the name I was going through a whole "The games of my childhood were the GREETEST!!!ampersand" thing, so I was thinking along the lines of the N64 and Gameboy Color. Really less "Oldskool" and more "Slightly-less-recent Skool than what my peers enjoy."

No one remembers me. :(

Damn you Xenoblade Chronicles, why did you have to take away so much Escapist forum time from me?

Don't worry, Shepard.

Maybe you'll get some recognition in the next few centuries or so.

Seriously? I don't know any of you -- why would I?

It's kinda pathetic to be dropping names of "famous" posters on an internet bulletin board.

I come here to get answers to questions and to discuss trending topics about video games, not to make another friends list of strangers.

Well, celebrities tend to rely on media attention to keep them relevant, so maybe if you hadn't punched all those reporters they wouldn't have been so happy to forget you...

I still count those as oldskool, mostly because they were the consoles that turned me into a gamer. The original Game Boy, which came with a free copy of Tetris, was my lifeline during long family car journeys. The N64, a few years later, was my first proper gaming experience; we'd had a second-hand Mega Drive before that, but all we had was stuff like Sonic, which (like almost all platform games) I was terrible at.

The N64 changed all that. I still remember the first game I ever bought for myself, Mario Kart 64, and how I'd play for hours and hours to get all the best times or to beat all my friends. Probably the most fun I've ever had with a console.

To me, those things are old school - perhaps not in relation to my age, but certainly to my life as a gamer :)

There's a difference between celebrities and people who save the galaxy from colossal space squids.
Well, yeah, you're way more forgettable. If you're not drunkenly flashing your gash while you fall out of a car, I don't care how many robot shrimp you blew up, I'm gonna watch me some TMZ and if you're not there then who cares who you are?

I'm starting to think maybe I should have just let the Reapers destroy the Galaxy.
It wouldn't have mattered; in fifty thousand years, whole new species will have discovered the grimy allure of worthless celebrities doing scandalous things. Hell, maybe that's why they're so bent on destroying organic life - it's nothing to do with preventing war, it's all about preventing Kardashians.
