A simple thread topic. What would you choose to name your kid?

Or any kid really. It doesn't matter.

Or Assuming you hate kids and think they're poop smelling banshee demons, then let's get straight to the point. What names do you like on others and wouldn't mind having yourself?

You can give your favorite names in general or just pick one for guys and one for girls. Just remember to say why you like it :p

Bonus points for giving your name, if you like it/why and what it means.

TL;DR What are your favorite names and why?

Do like your name? Would you change it?

Jacob is a boring name. And my surname doesn't help. Yes, I'd change it. I like Frank. Or Greg. Or Lloyd. They're all cool names.

For girls I like names that end with 'lyn', like Madelyn, Carolyn, Katelyn, Gwendolyn... and Jacqueline. I don't know why, they just sound nice, and the names are long but nicknames can be made easily from it.

My names okay. I like Roxie and Scarlett for a name.

I have thousands of baby names so whittling them down will be hard if I have kids.

Boys: Zack, Rufus, Vincent, Edgar, Edward, Albert, Archie, Alfred, Jack, Harvey, Arthur, Oscar, Leon, Leo, Charlie, Harry. James for a middle name, after my brother which has already been decided.

Girls: Ruby, Scarlett, Alisa, Alesha, Lily, Marie, Liara, Liana, Leela, Lola, Holly, Aerith, Jasmine. Jane for a middle name after my boyfriends sister.
Edit: How could I have forgotten Ramona?! I've loved that name since I found out Tre Cool called his daughter it D:

Yes, most are from games but not too outlandish I think.
I suppose I could use all these names by having that many kids xD

I'm kind of surprised you didn't mention 'Harley', to be honest.

Considered it, decided against it xD

I actually prefer her full name Harleen and people would think I'm just a huge Motorbike fan if I chose Harley although my stepdad would be very happy...

I can see the appeal, but I'd rather name a pet Harley rather than a child who is stuck with the name long after I stop liking Batman (if that happens! ;o)

You're supposed to answer your own question in the OP, Toad! :D

I haven't thought about it much but I've always loved the name Kai for a boy and Charlotte for a girl.

I've always loved those names, no particular reason though.

My name is Leanne. It's okay, I think it sounds a bit common though and most people spell in incorrectly because there are so many alternative spellings. Also, my middle name is Antoinette so there're two "Ann" sounds next to each other in my name, which is weird.

Apparently it means graceful or meadow or something.

Wind. Then my son/daughter will strike fear into their enemies when they hear the name...

Take that, ************!

Seriously though, I'm not entirely sure at this moment in time.

When I was little, I used to hate my name (It's Logan), but as I got older, I sort of fell in love with it (There is a certain X-Men character who has my name, and that makes me happy). I wouldn't name my child Logan, though. Logan Jr. just feels...wrong.

Logan is, apparently, Gaelic meaning 'Small Cove'. I don't know what that means, really, but there is that bit of random knowledge about my name.

As for names I would like:

For a boy, Kincaid. I have always liked the name, since I used to play Role Playing games, I would name my character Kincaid. That's my alter ego, if you will. My Tyler Durden.

As for girls, I've always wanted to name a girl Meryl (from Metal Gear Solid), but I have recently hoped to hear the name Alsace (It's a country in France), so maybe the names could be first and middle, possibly.

Ashley for a girl. Joshua for a boy.

Why? Umm... I like how they sound and they're not stupid?

My own name is Murray. It's ok, nothing against it. My parents were hippies in their younger days and named me after a river. No idea if it means anything.

...

Okay, I just looked it up. Apparently 'Murray' means 'sea warrior', 'sea lord' or 'protector of the sea'. Fuck yes. Although I'm more fond of mountains myself.

I despise being named Joshua. Not because I dislike the origins or how it sounds, but because no matter where I go, there will be another Josh there at some point. Do you have any idea how confusing it is to get such a common name?

Anyway... here are some names I like:
Male: Roland, Chris, Jonathan (only as long as it isn't shortened to "John")

Female: Sarah, Susan, Samantha, and just about anything else that starts with "S"

I don't have strong preferences for names, although I will admit to rolling my eyes at people who use "creative" spellings of real names. I also think people should research the popularity of their kids names - 5 years ago, my sister's best friend named her first child Jayden - there's another one in his class plus a Hayden and a Kayden (actually I've no idea how those two are spelled, but either way they rhyme). Similarly, I work with 4 Jennifers, 4 Jasons, 3 Marcs and 3 Heathers. It's incredibly annoying to be on calls where someone tells me "Send the files to Jen" leaving me to figure out which one they mean.

As for what I'd name a potential child - I imagine I'd go with a family name. I'd rather give them a name that had some kind of meaning beyond "I liked it".

Call me boring, but I prefer just kinda normal simple names. Wanna know one of my favorite boy names? Jack. Good ol' fashioned name. Can't go wrong with Jack.

I know it's none of my business, but it kinda throws me off my game when I see new parents giving their kids these super "unique" names just to make them sound different, or giving them names from whatever TV show happens to be tickling their fancy at the time. In a decade we're gonna have a generation of kids named after Twilight, Game of Thrones and Dr. Who.

I know it's your right to name your kid whatever you want, but at least try to think about the kid when you name them. For example, one of my (ex)friends has a daughter named Raven. Nothing really wrong with the name Raven. Except her name isn't Raven. It's Ravyn, nothing really WRONG with that, but one day when we were discussing names and I told her my thoughts on the name Jack and when she was explaining why she named her kid Ravyn, she basically said she wanted a name that wasn't boring.

To which I told her this is a child, not a D&D character.

By all means, feel free to name your kid whatever you want...but at least try to think about how it might affect the kid.

I would kind of like to call a boy Lucifer but that wouldn't go down well (with the naming registry people or the mother) I suspect. I just like the name.

Though I am also for Logan too.

For a girl Alice. I like it and it is rather uncommon these days.

I've always liked the names Kayla and Noland; they are normal names, although somewhat uncommon where I live. I'm actually more partial to Charlotte over Kayla, but I would never want my daughter to be stuck with the Cha-Cha like I was (I'm not the best dancer at St. Bernadette's, and I have a good reputation). I'm fine with my name, Charles but only because I've been going by Les since the end of college and no longer have to deal with Chuck, Charlie, or Chaz.

Hey, don't you be mocking the protector of the sea. "Old man's name"... hmph.

...

Well, at least you didn't think of the red Wiggle [http://www.google.com.au/search?gs_rn=26&gs_ri=psy-ab&pq=google&cp=7&gs_id=1m&xhr=t&q=wiggles&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.51773540,d.dGI&biw=1922&bih=1217&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=fKkvUt-NGMPAkAXxloHoCg]. Where I'm from, most people do. That or the river.

Hey if you can name a kid Jesus or michael , i don't see a reason why you couldn't name him Lucifer! Just as long as you don't name him Satan.

Some of those girl's names are good. Lily, Holly and Jasmine are all nice. (Huh. Apparently I like floral names.)

Your taste in guy's names is dubious however.

Also, is 'Liara' actually a name? The only Liara I've ever heard of was blue and had the business end of an octopus stuck to her scalp. I guess it does rather pretty though.
