So everyone has got a phobia or two hanging around in the old ceiling space that we call the mind.

I've personally got one or two depending on how you class them, the fear of heights and the fear of the depths (deep water frightened the crap out of me), I'm pretty sure they could be linked.

I'm also scared to death of snakes, but I don't consider that a phobia since my reaction is kill them, so it's not irrational, rather perfectly rational.

what are yours?

Heights, open spaces full of people, physical pain, mental and physical illness, flying, walking through town on a Saturday night... etc etc etc.

I was afraid of sharks for the longest time (I'd get freaked out in swimming pools thinking there was something behind me), but then I started to do research on them and now I just have a healthy fear. Now I'm mostly arachnophobic, very very arachnophobic.

Open spaces...confined spaces...
(cookie for reference)

I have a phobia of ferries, whenever I go on one I think it's going to sink. I'm fine with flying, in fact I've flown a plane before. Which is weird.

I have a pretty bad fear of spiders and bees, but that's nothing out of the ordinary.

But for some reason, I am absolutely freaked out by the Rainforest Cafe restaurants. I can't explain why, but I can barely take two steps in there without running for the door.

I don't like people in my personal space, you enter my bubble be prepared to be attacked. Also black water. I can deal with water if I can see below me, even if I can't see the bottom, but black water scares me because you can't see whats in it. I twitch (I don't scream) every time a fish swims to close or I touch a piece of seaweed.

Phobias are curious beasts. Especially the one for heights as a lot of people who say they have a phobia about heights don't they are just scared of falling. If you have a phobia about heights just knowing you are high up, say in an office block would petrify you.

The depth one is usually fear of the unknown, as you can't see what is "down there". (I assume you meant depth as in water)

I live in a place with no dangerous spiders in the wild yet I have Arachnophobia, and I even know why. When I was only a few years old my older sister made a big show about a spider in the room, running around screaming etc. She was just putting it on but screwed my brain. Thanks sis.

Getting better though, but I used to be unable to even go near the tiny money spiders. Still can't pick up a spider though.

I fear that humanity will one day consist totally of idiots and our potential will be gone forever.

I am very sorry for what I am about to do.

Actually funny you should mention that, it's not falling that scares me, I get itchy in a two story building, just knowing I'm in the building, standing on a chair makes me uncomfortable, I almost lost one job because I froze up on the roof where we were installing a wireless antenna. I forced myself to work, but the second I started thinking about how high I was I lost it.

I once went up the BP tower in Melbourne, I was about 11 or 12, I was so utterly terrified. So no it's not the fear of falling, it's the fear of being up high, thankfully there are very few buildings around here with more then one story.

As for the depths, yes deep water frightens me, even when I can see down, but so do deep holes, etc.

I can't stand buildings higher than four floors. It drives me nuts being in them. I also hate when people are dicking around with sharp objects. "Would you stop, please? I like my eyes where they are, and un-butchered." It's been bothering me even more since I keep remembering eye tissue doesn't grow back.
