I like to name my character after something logical. Like a floating cup (FlyteBeger in norwegian), or something usual like different kinds of merchandise. Never gets tedious.

I basically connect my RPGs with the throughline that the characters are all part of the same lineage. Therefore, the characters are always given the surname "Highbury" with variable first names. If that sounds confusing, then imagine "Highbury" as though it were "Belmont."

Il just steal it from a book im reading, for dragon age it was Malekith. However i go with my name if its apporpirate but msot of the time it isnt, i just make them up. I think Ezekyle shepard was fitting.

I pick a new game every time I play a different game (unless I want to continue the same character on a sequel/prequel)

I tend to pick names that reveal a bit about the character, then I reverse them or mix them up. Or I pick name that fits the game's theme.

Examples:
Catherine in Fallout 3 (Same name as the main character's mother)
Erine Ashard/Enire in World of Warcraft (The reason for the name change reveals a main plot point for the character)
etc.

PS: Basically I try to stay in the game theme (and I'll even bother to go look up the game lore and find something good to base my name on). If I'm going to write a story about this character, the character needs to have a personality and the name should expose said personality.

If I intend to be evil or if it's on a racing game I usually pick something simple like Shadow, Wings or Blade. But any other time I just make up a ye olde British monicker. Like for instance: Barnaby C. Forting-Mandible.

First i make the character then i think "What should i call you". I name some character after myself but most of them have names i make up after i made the guy.

When the character is male I usually use Rex Dark.
When female I make something up on the spot.
When the game is Legend of Zelda I'm especially original and name the character LINK.

if the char is in an MMO im naming it after an hero from some old mythology or if its an offline game then i try my own name if that does not fit (and it rarely does) im using some made up shit that fits the setting.

If there's a predetermined name then I'll leave it at that (Cloud, Ramza).
However if it asks you for a completely original name, half the time I come up with it on the spot and I use a couple of names every time: Chernobyl for the healer (Irony FTW), Eros for a girl with huge sex appeal, Zyxenfryx for a WTF character...

Usually, the first character I make in a game ends up with a botched up version of my own name, switching out S with Z and so on, like Zimen, Zimenzo and so on. However, when that's taken...that's when randomness ensues. For instance, when I made my AoC-character(yes, I still play the game from time to time, go ahead and laugh) everything was taken, and every other name I tried was taken too. So in the end, i named him Bollocks. Been getting laughs from in-game Brits ever since ^^

I gennerally don't name that anything too creative maybe just my real named I actually haven't played a lot of games where you can name yourself. In Assasin's Creed I decided to take the immature AVGN route and named my character "Cock", I also completed SSBB's story mode under the named "FUCKR" so I guess when given the choice to name a character I'm generally not mature about it.

For females, I always us Rho. No idea why...
