Chicago has great foods of all kinds.. But I'd have to say our best-known is deep-dish pizza and hotdogs. Delicious.
I agree with the deep dish pizza! I played at a music conference at the Chicago Hilton last year with a wind band and to celebrate we all got deep dish pizza, stuffed ourselves stupid and then had a snow fight. I spent only a few days in that lovely city, some of the food was brilliant I'd have to say. Some of it was a bit so-so, I did miss Australian food.

I had a two week craving in America for cherry ripe. I couldn't get one until I got home! Couldn't find them anywhere in America. Everyone should go have a cherry ripe they are damn good. Also any self respecting Greek/Australian is a yeeros/doner kebab/gyros connoisseur. If you have not gone out at 2 am for your post-booze kebab you simply have not lived. For those that don't know what a yeeros is, wiki it and then eat one, you won't be disappointed if you order properly. If you don't get chicken or sweet chili sauce it generally ends up fine.

Beer batter fish and chips is always good stuff, also when cooking seafood on the bbq just pour a bit of beer on it, it tastes really good. I don't know whether that is just my weird family or it is an Australian thing.

Also I love vegemite, black stuff that looks like grease and is really salty but I love it. I have it with avocado on toast because thats the way I roll.

Cake-based pornography.

Haha! I quite like the sound of that for some strange reason. XD

On the topic of food though. Apparently the first ever chippy was in my hometown. Yay. Not only that but we created the best food coupling ever; chips with gravy. It's a concept that the Scottish can't get their heads round as said by my friend Darren. Who then said it should be chips with salad cream. That's just disgusting.

And oh! How I do crave a Declerks Muffin!

or NCMU for short.

Given that there's people from all corners of the globe, what one NCMU of yours would you recommend they HAVE to try, and what NCMU would you like to try that someone else may have ate?

For me, the sheer awesomeness of PROPER cheese on toast, with a little bit of Worcestershire Sauce.
Imagine toast, with a layer of melted goo that tastes of win, with an epic tang.

But I've never tried Gatorade...what's it like?
Where could you POSSIBLY live that doesn't have Gatorade or another brand of the same thing?

and what is proper cheese? I'm from Wisconsin, now... so tread lightly.

Leicester, England. Never even seen any Gatorade apart from in vending machines in London.

Proper cheese is something with bite and flavour. Not that awful PVC substitute you Americans have.

On second thoughts..this has changed my mind...http://www.wisconsincheese.com/isapi/isapi.dll

You do know real cheese! Hoorah!

@ SargentToughie : Best Breakfast in the world is cold pizza and flat lager. Breakfast of champions.
Someone said I was weird for having a kebab for breakfast though.

Word, give gatorade a try, though... we've pretty much replaced water outright with it in the US as the sole sports hydration drink :)

I beg to differ.

Cup of coffee and a fag. Maybe a bag of Wotsits if you're hungover.

Well I'm making a prober meat and tater pie tomorrow with shorcrust pasty ont top, serve it the roper Lancashire way too with pickled beetroot. Apparently we're having people round for dinner tomorrow night so it's just an excuse for me to start drinking early. XD

EDIT: To Root; I've never been a big fan of mushy peas with anything else, but I do like them when I get fish and chips. Plenty salt and vinegar on them an all.
