Well since he was the last president of THQ, I wouldn't hold his word up that much.

He's right. Most third-party developers won't bother with it because of the much inferior hardware.

Well, can't really say he's wrong. I mean really, who actually wanted the Wii or the WiiU for the hardware? The only thing that people actually want nintendo for are their first party games.

Well the way things stand now they might be shafting themselves horribly by making their own console that has fallen far behind the competition, yes Wii had amazing success and justified all the exclusivity but when you are the least selling console that coin flips on you rather quick.

No doubt they will persevere with the masses of fans just going for the brand but they might halt the growth all together, and this is only the start of this console generation.

Biased source is biased. I mean seriously, naughty dog makes predominantly playstation games, if they arent even exclusive to that platform already, so bag of salt and all that.

But uh, whats his point exactly? Nintendo is the only hardware manufacturer left that actually has first-party titles, they are the only one left where the developer is essentially themselves. So why are they irrelevant? Because devs like naughty dog wont release games on them?

Fine, hasnt stopped nintendo in the past either. You gotta consider one thing, Nintendo has survived Sega already, im pretty sure they will survive both Sony and Microsoft at this point, they are the oldest runner still in the proverbial race. And if you go by which console wins the next pissing-contest that is the "console war"..ya all lost anyway. 720p? 1080p? Blu-ray? PC wants a word with you, you're fucking late to the party.

Nintendo is the only hardware manufacturer that makes things that aren't just shitty PCs preloaded with a restrictive OS.

Why does it seem like any game developer that writes one good story suddenly thinks they can comment on the whole damn industry as if they run it.

You made one zombie game with an escort quest where the person you're escorting is invincible. Get off your high horse.

I don't know what Jason Rubin is doing these days, but he ain't working for Naughty Dog anymore, so let's not turn this into a 'Naughty Dog/Sony vs. Nintendo' thing. That's like holding Sony Santa Monica accountable for whatever David Jaffe chooses to say.

People should read the article for the full quote: ?Nintendo is irrelevant as a hardware manufacturer in the console business right now.?

Given the current sales numbers for the PS4, XBone and Wii U, he's right.

I honestly think you should have given some of the context to that quote, because I'm struggling to see what you find as hard to take his word on?

He was asked 'Which hardware manufacturer is going to be most successful this generation?' and he responded by saying the WiiU has made some mistakes and has no chance (or is 'irrelevant') to who will sell the most consoles this generation. And considering the PS4 sold in a day more consoles than the WiiU sold in the first 3 months (and in day sold more third-party games than the Wii U has sold in a year), that seems like a reasonable thing to say

I mean people in this thread have been talking about the Wii and the 3DS which isn't at all related to what he was saying

He's an idiot.

If they were irrelevant as a hardware manufacturer, then they'd be performing poorly with all their hardware. At present, the Wii U is the only hardware they've developed in the last several years which isn't selling well. The Wii was a smashing success, and the 3DS recovered from a slow start to blow past the "superior" hardware of the Vita several times over.

This guy is acting like the Wii U is a statement for all of Nintendo's hardware ever, which is obviously not true if he bothered to look at the numbers.

Using his own logic, he should be completely ignored on all matters of gaming and the industry, since he at one point helped lead the colossal failure that is THQ.
He's not an idiot, the people taking the quote out of context are the ones being silly. He was specifically talking about the Wii U and actually even cited the fact that more Wii's are being sold than Wii U's right now

Software developers that have no experience in making hardware high on their egos talking about a company that's done it long before they even existed becoming irrelevant in hardware.

Okay.

Okay.
Along with the other misquotes, the guy who said this isn't part of Naughty Dog and hasn't been for 10 years. He was the president of THQ which means he actually has manufactured (incredibly unsuccessful) hardware and all he's saying in the quote is that he doesn't believe the Wii U is going to be relevant in this particular console generation compared to the sales(And third party support) of the Xbox One and PS4

Dunno, the Wii's motion controller shifted quite a few units with the casual crowd before people realised it was shit.

Straight example with the WiiU although.

Because, of course, this man is a guru of video gaming and everything he says should be written down and treated as scripture. I mean, his almighty company known as "THQ" is the greatest video game company ever and is beloved by everyone and is still going strong even today.

... oh wait.

I think the more important point that Rubin was making was that it is a travesty that Nintendo franchises are locked behind the Nintendo hardware wall and not available on the platforms that most people will have in their home over the next5-7 years (PS4/Xbone). There is an argument to be made that only Nintendo hardware and their innovations will push their franchises forward, although I'm not sure I can be convinced that something like Mario Galaxy would not be just as wonderful with a dual stick controller and game like Mario Kart is best played with the nunchuck, not motion controls.

1. No one, not even himself, is implying that.

2. It's always a good thing to hear every side, otherwise we'd get nowhere and there'd be no competition.

I mean, his almighty company known as "THQ" is the greatest video game company ever
3. "His"? He didn't become president until 2012, and by then THQ was already a listing derelict hulk ready to be scuttled.

and is beloved by everyone
4. A lot of people, including myself, did love THQ for the games they published at one point.

He's simply saying that Nintendo's hardware is getting in the way of Nintendo's games. He's simply saying that he loves Nintendo's games but wants them to be more. This has nothing to do with THQ.
