The two main characters remind me of younger versions of Bill and Zoey from Left 4 Dead.

There's not much to expect yet since there's not gameplay and not much revealed story-wise. We can see that this is much later in the Zombie Apocalypse due to the overgrown vegetation in the streets and that Naughty Dog are going for the fast animalistic zombies similar to 28 Days Later, but the infection rules don't seem to be revealed in the trailer.

Considering the Uncharted games had zombies, blue super men, and fire spirits, this doesn't seem like that much of a departure.

Personally, I really wish we'd stop with zombies. They're just getting old. Hopefully these ones will be fun to fight, but I doubt it. Still, it's Naughty Dog, and I haven't hated one of their games yet, so I guess we'll see.
I said it last night: Zombies are so overdone that saying they are overdone has become overdone itself. It's insanity.

The lack of supernatural happenings (excluding hallucinations) is the main reason why Uncharted 3 is my favorite in the series by far. Naughty Dog does human drama and rivalry well. The zompires and the blue yeti men were just clunky and needless plot elements that derailed the best parts of both the first two games' stories.

This actually looks good...

Has a dead island feel to it but you know it won't be plagued by bugs and mediocre voice acting.

As long as they don't pull a dead island on us, and this game turns out to be a PROPER deep and compelling story of survival, the story of a man and his daughter and their struggle to stay alive, and not a yar-yar-shoot-em-up-yeaaaaaaaah kind of game, then !@#$ yeah seaking I am all over it.

For all the zombie games I've seen out there, not ONE seems to really delve into the issue of "how do the people in this situation get by day by day? How do they cope? What keeps them going?". It's something we rarely see in zombie/monster stories. The only zombie anything that I've read that covers that kind of angle is World War Z. And I really liked that.

So yeah, put me down as Undecided. Until we see actual gameplay, and we can see for sure if it holds up to the trailer.

EDIT: Oh, and I love the girl's deadpan humor. "better than THAT guy" indeed. XD

Exactly. All the speculation over this thing, and it turns out to be a zombie game set in NYC. I'm sure it'll be well-written and look pretty and have good acting, but I'm just tired of both of these concepts (ruined New York, and zombies).
Actually...

"Abandoned cities reclaimed by nature. A population decimated by a modern plague. Survivors are killing each other for food, weapons; whatever they can get their hands on.

Joel, a brutal survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together if they hope to survive their journey across the US."

It may start in NY, but it won't end there, not even close if they're going across the country. Which almost all Zombie games stay in either one state or city.

Sounds like Enslaved meets a zombie game. I like one half of that equation.

One of the people working on the game was lead designer of Enslaved.

I find the replies about "zombie games are overdone" hilarious. There haven't been many zombie games that are good games come out. Just because you have played these mediocre zombie games that have been shoveled out doesn't mean everyone else has. I figure anyone sick of zombies bought into the genre way too soon and now are tired of them before they have been really explored well.

Can anybody actually name off more than 5 games centered around zombies that have been released in the last 5 years?

Also, did he call the girl who looks EXACTLY like Ellen Page "Ellie"?
Actually, the moment she popped up on screen my first thought was, "She looks almost exactly like Zoey from Left 4 Dead."

The thin, short stature. The red jacket. The dark hair pulled back to a pony tail. Pale-ish complexion.

As soon as I saw that and the ruined, apocalyptic-like setting my next thought was, "I bet this is yet another zombie game." So far, signs point to me being right.

The only question for debate is whether we've reached Peak Zombie or if we're the harbingers of Peak Zombie. For several years now the number of 'oh they're making a zombie film, that's original' and 'in the already over-crowded zombie genre' have grown in quantity and intensity and I think we've reached the point where even people who actually still like zombie games are having the thoughts creep into their heads from other people's casual remarks. You can't fight the mob, even if you try to fight it relentlessly keeps on coming until eventually you forget to fight and slowly transform. At first you just nod along and make a generic zombie joke because you're tired and want to get past it and talk about the subject at hand without having yet another zombie debate. And then you get in the habit of making them unprovoked and finally you'll forget the idea wasn't one of yours and you'll just be another one of a shambling horde.

...
And so the consumerism metaphor becomes a metaphor for humanism. Progress ever in circles

And Enslaved was basically an Uncharted rip-off (it sounds strange even to my ears, considering one was hack 'n slash and one was cover-based shooter but my heart knows it to be true) which brings this in a full circle, and means that the dudes have the experience to make this game.

Oh. Man, that was a beautiful game too. I lingered forever in the section where Monkey rides his cloud around the water in New York just so I could take in the visuals.

Sigh...I guess I'm willing to eat my words and play it if I hear good things about it. It's just...zombies. I always hated them because I hate anything remotely horror, but they (and variants of them) are undeniably overdone. But if the development team can rise above the standard fare and do something special, I won't complain so much.

As many say, the zombie thing is soon getting old. I just want an open world zombie game about SURVIVING. Not where you run around gunning down every single foe. Sorta like the game Dead Island's trailer made it look like..

Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Dead Island
Dead Rising 2
Dead Space 2(Still counting)
Resident Evil 5

Could count Black Ops since that had a Zombie mode but nah, I won't. It looks ok, but I'm not going to even get hype by something like this.

Well considering it was rendered on the ps3, and not a CGI trailer, I doubt it's just a fake like the Dead Island was.

Dead Rising, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil 5, Left 4 Dead 2, Dead Rising 2, Dead Island, Zombie Apocalypse, Dead Space, Dead Space 2, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.

Y'know. Things like that.
