So I want to play some good ol' strategy games, real time and such, ya know with the buildings and making troops and other such nonsense and what not that comes with a strategy game.

Does anyone know of any good games out there that I have never heard of...
I'm thinking of trying Dungeon Keeper cause it sounds...good in a way, but still deciding of getting it.

Real Time Strategies please and thank you.

GrimGrimoire for the PS2 is the first one that springs to my mind, though I'm not sure if I'd recommend it.

There are plenty on the App Store if you have an iDevice but...I can't actually think of any right now ^^;;

Brutal Legend is sort of an RTS, just mixed with action elements.

...I'm gonna shutup now since I'm clearly no help here.

Company of Heroes. It's probably the only WWII game since it came out (2006) worth playing. Also has really good community support, lots of downloadable community maps, and a mod called eastern front that adds a buncha maps and the Russians as a playable faction.

starcraft is really good. you have probably heard of it. it is really solid game though awesome multi-player and campaign. and with such a big community and deep game play you can play it for a long time

I have played StarCraft II and Dawn of War, along with Age of Empires
GrimGrimoire is a game I'm still looking for actually, and anything Disgaea related I already have including Soul Nomad and Phantom Kingdom Portable

Dungeon Keeper was a blast to play (literally in case of the Lightning strikes!) I never played the sequel, so I can't say how it help up over time, but the first one is fun.

Rome Total War is good. Old so it'll run on most PC's and it's one of the best, if not the best Total War game out from my view. Cheap too.

If not, Shogun Total War 2 is also a good one. Newer so it might not run as well unless you have the machine to keep up. The online battles are a hoot though, and the single player, although different, is very good once you get into it.

Warhammer, Dawn of War has some rather good ones. Warcraft 3 is also still popular. Both of them are easy to run.

So anyone else have any more ideas of good strategy games?
I was wondering if AI War was good?

But another thing is that Dungeon Keeper won't run in daemon tools, I have windows 7 so I don't know how to work it, or if I should probably move up to try Dungeon Keeper 2.

IF you want real-time and you have zero money, I'd try OpenRA:
http://openra.res0l.net/

It's an opensource version of Red Alert, and the Original Command and Conquer.
And, again: FREE.

Also: 0 A.D.
http://wildfiregames.com/0ad/

It's not quite done yet, but it's still fairly playable. And also free.

Awesome.

Dungeon Keeper isn't really a strategy game. It's a sandbox game with some (very) rudimentary strategy elements grafted onto it.

Since you primarily seem to enjoy RTS games, and don't seem to mind going old school, I recommend the overlooked and underrated Sacrifice and Myth (I and II).

Sins of a Solar Empire and Company of Heroes are two of my favorite games of all time, in the RTS arena. Sins has very long games as stated, and it's always challenging and epic in scale. Sins has quite a learning curve though, it's tech trees are dense and the huge open-space aspect is overwhelming to some. Company of Heroes is amazing also, it's less about the scale and more about the close strategy of maintaining forces and tactics.

Other strategy games I like but not in the "Real-Time" arena, are of course the Civilization and Total War series. You'd need a fairly decent rig to run anything from Empire Total War and up.

Hmm.....I got "Ai Wars: Fleet Command" the other week on sale, and it's pretty fun.

I'm not sure it's up your alley, though. try the demo first. It's less about managing micro and macro, and more about the overarching strategy.

an oldy but goldy I honestly do not know how its called in english, couldnt find it in a quick search. But i loved the unusual combination of diablo like rpg with real time strategy and the unique claymotion graphics. I playthrough MANA at least once a year
You get more and more spellingredients over time, which can be used to learn one out of 3 spells, but you cant get the other 2 you can create with said ingredient, so the decision which kind of spells (good , neutral, evil) you want to concentrate on and which ingredients you use really make up for a huge variety of tactics and a great multiplayer arenagame.
