Scam. If they were going to get you free points, then hey wouldn't need your password. They will hijack your account.

Okay, got all the info I need. I will just put it behind me, maybe he will message me later and say that he was scammed. Though if his account was hijacked maybe not.

I got a message from a friend regarding this, he sent us (Me, and his friends) a message telling us how great this was.

10 seconds later he sent out a message telling us it was a scam.

Trust me, if it looks too good to be true, it is.

I doubt Microsoft would just be giving out free points, and generally any other service that tries to gets punced on like pigeons to bread with all their users suffering severe penalties, it is most definitely a scam.

I was on my 360 a few minutes ago when a friend messaged me a link and said that when he went there and did what it said, he got 2000 Microsoft points free.
The guy that message me, I don't know him that well, just that we played some Halo 3 multiplayer several months ago. I hadn't really talked to him since.
I have a picture of what I found when I used the link, but it doesn't explain enough to me that I can't dismiss it as a scam. It just seems too good to be true.

1) Is it too good to be true?
2) What's in it for them?(i.e how can they support this business model)

Ask those questions first. Don't bother thinking about whether or not it's legitimate before then, because the answer to those first two questions will tell you not to bother.

If you're still wondering about it's legitimacy. Look at the freaking URL. Do you think Microsoft would have any trouble hosting this page on www.xbox.com? There is a big and very obvious reason that this is hosted on some bullshit domain.

It's a scam if it's asking for your password. Just always assume that.
Can scammers assume the identity of a friend and send a message through Xbox Live, because after I got the message, I quickly got out of the game I was playing. When I got back to the main screen I saw that the friend wasn't active only a minute after the message was sent.
I'd say this guy already fell for it. Then people just use these accounts, send the message to all the friends of that account, and it keeps spreading. Yeah, it's a scam. It happened on MSN a little while back too. Why would your password be needed to award points, the only people that could do that is microsoft, and they wouldn't need your password.

There ARE sites like these that are legitimate, but there a few signs to indicate that they are when this is the case:

A: Its been iterated before but it bears repeating - they wouldn't need your password. Never give it out.
B: The legitimate ones ALWAYS have some way of supporting it. Some have surveys you have to fill out, others bombard your email with spam. There's always a catch.

If there's not a catch, then it's a scam. Not maybe, not usually with some small chance it isn't, it just is.

+1 for making me laugh.

I find it interesting how a thread just keeps on going. My last post in this thread, before this one, I said I got that it was a scam and that I am going to ignore it; to me that meant that nobody else was going to comment, because the question had been answered. But now the thread keeps going, and people are repeating what other people have said. (Ooh no! What have I created?! Aaaahh!) I guess people are trying to get their daily post quota met. (Do people have those?)

Reading from your posts, playing with them a few times doesn't mean they are your BFF.

General rule of thumb is that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. It looks like a scam to me. I never give passwords out to that kind of thing because it could be a scam.

Well, I didn't mean "friend" friend, I meant it in the Xbox live way. At best, he is a semi-acquaintance.

That is a classic example of a scam. Microsoft would never ask you for your e-mail or password. Microsoft never gives points away for free unless there is some type of contest involved.

One of my friends was also mailed the same message. I told him it was most likely a scam.

I know. But I like to go the X-Files route, "Trust no one."
