Super mario bros. 3, a really nice platformer, and one of the best of the mario games, if not THE best.

And then there's world 7's first castle. Yup, it's a bit of a headscratcher and I had a few time outs, especially when you find goal. My response?

"How the hell was I supposed to find that out?"

STALKER SOC stopped being fun when I thought there was an autosave feature and found out there wasnt... im gonna hit it up later and see if I still can play it, although CoP seems so much more interesting just because pripyat is in it
Pripyat is in all the STALKER games...

As for being on topic... the escort mission in nearly every game is when I start to wonder about what's on tv.

Half Life 2 Epidode 2...

... falls apart at the massive climax on XBOX because of the godawful car controls. Not sure how it is on PC but on console the car is a nightmare to use, making what should be a huge epic battle into an exercise in extreme frustration.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow takes a massive plummet in quality for the final stage.

The third Lord of Shadow look retarded. The Necromancer mini-bosses were better designed. Hell, the villager NPCs were better designed. And the way he prances about giving us exposition like a Bond Villan is stupid and out of character. Then there's the Devil. Same problem as with the Lord of Death. They didn't finish the character model and just covered him with "vegimite" instead of the robes he has in is concept art. Never mind the fact that it's just stupid to be fighting the Devil. This is Castlevania, not Dantes Inferno. And don't get me started on the plot twist after the credits either.

Bad Company 2.

I like it, but for all the things it does better than BO, it will always be second banana because of the terrible damage model and weapon unbalance.

Even the 'Hardcore' is laughable, 3-2 sniper rifle shots to kill someone.

The 'moment' is the classic: 'I shoot someone with my rifle twice, they turn and one shot me with a rifle of the same caliber.'

Crippling flaw that renders possible greatness mediocre.

When there's nothing left to do in any given sandbox game, or user-made content in LBP.

Fallout: New Vegas, not Fallout 3: New Vegas.
Please, it's an expansion pack and we all know it.

FF9 goes all to the hell the second you challenge someone to a card game.

I used to think it was just because I was young and stupid that I couldn't understand it. Now I realize it's just because the game is an impenetrable abyss.
The same thing happened in FFX with blitzball, I stopped playing the story and had to get the best team together and start a tourney.

Well in that case then almost all of the Halo games are expansion packs, the Crash bandicoot games were expansion packs, Spyro, Assassins Creed, Gears of War, The latest Empire games, Mass Effect. With that philosophy the majority of games released nowadays and for a long time now are all expansion packs if they use the same engine.

Plus I've never heard of an expansion pack that has more quests, more new weapons, more completely new characters, an entirely new location that is bigger than the original, a completely original plot, more perks, re-introduced traits, re-introduced reputation, created more things for the player to do that are completely new, re-introduced weapon mods, created more possible endings than the "original" and changed the way some of the major skills and SPECIAL traits worked.

If you ask me and a lot of other people, Fallout 3 should be Fallout: Capital Wasteland, and Fallout: New Vegas should be named Fallout 3, because that was a true sequel to Fallout 2.

Red Dead Redemption.

There is really nothing to do after you get 100%...no random events or nothing to keep me interesting.
I've noticed this, too. The card games can still be fun to play, but I have so much money that I don't feel like I'm losing anything if I fail. I started a new file a few days ago, and suddenly the 'wow' feeling I had when I first played it is back in full-force. Well, almost. I'm not addicted anymore, and I'm not going to be surprised by new random events or anything, but it is nice having a long list of objectives.

OT: As much as I love Chrono Trigger, I'm not big on New Game +. I like being able to get all the endings, but there's no challenge anymore. Starting the game at Level 70 or whatever just takes all the fun out of fighting, meaning I'm just kind of meandering through the story until I feel like fighting Lavos. At least it's an incredibly good story, though.

Fallout 3: New Vegas runs in the exact same engine, it's an expansion pack. As is Brotherhood.

Oblivion - The first time I got on a horse
Seriously. A husband-and-wife team working by themselves in Turkey got mounted combat dead solid perfect (Mount&Blade)...what's Todd Howard's excuse?

Also, the first time an allied army came to my aid in Rome: Total War...and the general charged into about four Gallic warbands and got turned into Roman shish kebab. Mind you, that AI behavior was mostly fixed, but even in 1.5 I don't fully trust my allies, and I'll happily maneuver other factions into getting THEIR generals killed.

Yeah, Mount & Blade did horseback combat extremely well.

Also, for many of my favorite RPG's, the starting area is interesting the first time through, but every single playthrough afterwards is just a chore. I love KOTOR, Taris was an awesome planet, but I always have to force myself through it now.

Team Fortress 2: Annoying respawn wave times and autobalance.

Your sentry almost dead? Fuck you, you have to wait 20 seconds before you can even spawn.

You put all your strength and frustration into pushing the cart? Fuck you, your efforts are now counter productive, you now have to stop the cart.

Outdated Game engine.

Also, the fact that no where near the proper amount of time was spent on the horses. You have to remember that M&B's main focus was the horses. They're not just better than Oblivion, they're better than every other game I've played (possible exception of RDR).

I got the feeling that they only included them in Oblivion to appease the fans, and didn't take the time to actually integrate them well. They should have been cut entirely, but I'll bet he was afraid of the backlash since they'd already said they'd be in the game.
