You won't dump water on me if I drag out my Molly cosplay, will you?
Of course not, sadly I haven't read the book in which she appears yet (I just read Storm Front actually, but I loved it so much that I ordered both Fool Moon and Grave Peril quickly afterwards) so I have no idea how she looks, only that she becomes Harry's apprentice... but I like surprises.

Does anyone else differentiate betweena nerd and a geek? Because to me a geek is basically what is described here (and everyone is a geek for something or other) - someone with a keen interest in something that perhaps might not be considered cool by the mainstream. A nerd is socially inept by its very definition (at least colloquially that's how I use the word and have come across the word being used).
I try to differentiate between a geek and a nerd, but it's pretty hard, definitions of both words are almost fluid.

Well I met my girlfriend on a chat room for Avatar: The Last Airbender (yes, one of the nerdier love stories ever), and she lives 4 hours away from me. Long-distance relationships are hard, but we've been going strong for about a year and a half now.

There was one time that I realized that I had kind of been neglecting her. I felt horrible about it and dedicated myself to paying more attention to her. The first step in that plan? Plot with her mother (her family likes me, so I can do stuff like that) to have two dozen roses bought and scattered around my girlfriend's room while she was at work. I also mailed a handwritten apology/love letter to her mother, who put it on her desk for her to read when she got back. Since then I've had her mom put one of her favorite candies in her room every time she's at work.

A bit on the nerdier side, for Valentine's Day last year I was learning to code visual novels (very basic video games), and I created kind of an interactive love letter for her, with some questions for her to answer and everything. She loved that.

Go nerds! :D

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to The Escapist! You'll find this community to be one of the more intelligent online communities, if also... well you'll see. It's a great place. Enjoy!
And the more cynical people (me among them) say romance is dead. Honestly that is a very good story.

12 roses. 11 real, one plastic.
Note saying "My love for you will last until the last rose wilts."
That way she has something symbolic to burn when she says that it's over in the super angry voice commonly seen in movies.

Not sure about the areas you come from, but there's a "build a bear" factory shop nearby. You can make a bear from there and it gets all the mooshy stuff like a birth certificate and clothing. Point is, you buy two, and name one after yourself and one for your girlfirend. That way, no matter where you are, you can always sleep with your partner to snuggle with.

Whips and chains.... oh wait, probably not.

Bridges... bridges are romantic. Guys, wear something you can wrap around her. 'tis romantic but bloody freezing.

Can't say any of these would be sure-fire to be romantic. While there is a "romantic" genre where everything is red, candlelit, covered in rose petals etc... What is truly romantic is something that is personal and that depends on the girl. Just have to listen for the right thing, and plan it for the right time.

Oh! I won't give any more spoilers then, but the books just keep getting better! Especially once you hit Summer Knight.

An eveningo remember of course.
First dinner at her favourite resturanrt, followed by a carriage ride through the busiest, cultured part of the city followed by a trip to the beach where candles surround an imprmptu dance stage where we can privately dance to our favourite songs. After we can just watch the stars and create a own constellations.

Sounds mushy but thats what I'd do

The rose one...thats thoughtful. And I'd agree the personal thing... you could do everything by the book if you wanted to but something real personal and creative is best.

I would like to have done romantic things as a nerd boyfriend - but every nerd girl I have ever been around tends to be an attention/drama seeker.

My new plan is to find a girl who is as relaxed as me and then turn her to the nerdy side.

Achievement completion 0/100%.

I once gave a girl two of my prized posessions - a cerberus mini figure and a 1up mario badge!

On the contrary, a good relationship requires that both of you share, or at the very least understand, each others' interests. Dating involves consideration of marriage, and I could never spend the rest of my life with someone who couldn't be involved in my nerdism. You've got to find a girl you can be nerdy with: I just got lucky because I met her on an Avatar: The Last Airbender fansite. :p

Really? Me and my guy are both real competitive... esp when it comes to gh. completely outclasses me when it comes to halo, but its awesome playing co-op :)
Well you've got me there at my angle of "Having never dated in his entire life and will probably be a few years 'til he starts" and it's good if you're partner shares some of your interests. But I was talking about keeping your nerd life seperate from your partner if he/she isn't into things like gaming.

I'm going to be honest, I love nerd guys. I find they're intelligent, helpful and generally more romantic than most people give them credit for. If you have a girlfriend, what's the most romantic thing you're done for her? If you don't, what would be the most romantic thing you would do when find her?
I'd probably cook a nice dinner for her and then show her the littleBIGplanet level I made for her the night before.

Oh awesome, I'll get there in *calculates* about a month or 2, depending on arrival dates of the books. Maybe I'll just wait with reading Dune then, even though that's due to arrive earlier than Fool Moon. Or I can just stop gaming for a day or 2 and finish it in 1 go. I lurv reading.

Comes in handy if your girl adores the by the book stuff. But I agree with that, obviously, the most romantic things don't have to be those uber elaborate plans like the one I thought up, but those little yet extremely personal things you can only do if you really know a person.

will this win you over? Because that’s the case he got her

I don’t remember the part’s themselves so just use your imagination

ooooOOOOOOooooh, all the slots for precious add-ons... Yes, my imagination is quite enough to make this beauty perfect.
