Just a friendly heads up.

I've been surfing with my PS3 for over a year now, and have been a Zero Punctuation fan for even longer. The down side being that if I wanted to watch Zero Punctuation I had to hope someone would copy it to You Tube... well no more. But I just couldn't bring myself to spend my money on my 4th PC to watch it inevitably break while I scatch my head in confusion.

With the 2.50 update now all the PS3 owners in the world can get all The Escapist's videos on their browser (not to mention user movies and anything else from all other sites) and we can upload videos from our harddrives. Again adding to the arguement that a PS3 can replace a home computer for internet entertainment.... goodbye youtube, hello... everything else.

Just a friendly heads up, your about to have alot more PS3 users on your websites.... now off to watch the 30 ZP videos I've never seen.

Back from PoP retrospective....

I highly recommend it. Originally I bought the PS3 to justify my $4,000 LG 48 inch TV purchase with a new $399 Blu-ray player (didn't work). Then I realised something.... I could actually do everything I did on my PC (besides addictive as crack WoW) and even if I somehow did manage to break it (which with a reported %1 failure rate only an idiot can break) that I could send it off to a company that will actaully fix it instead of telling me "It's obsolete, but we can sell you our new model"

Sure the games are fun.... but a PC/360/Bluray player that is reliable.... best buy I ever made. Time for the MSG4 reveiw (the game bored me after 15 minutes... call me a fanboy)

The only thing im afraid of if I get the PS3 is that im never gana play it because of games like Fable 2 and Gears of war 2. I honestly think the only reason I would even turn on the PS3 is to go on the internet and watch youtube on a big screen, and if my xbox breaks god forbid.

I understand that. But there are actually a few great games coming to the system, and beleive it or not PS3 exclusives have a great chance for official GOTY. If you want me to name them I can... but it will inevittably lead to a flame war somehow... it always does.

I'm not trying to sell a PS3... that's Sony's job. I'm just telling you my experience... ofcourse I can't "take" games off the internet (unless PS1 games count) but everything else you "take" with your PC is fair game.... and in 1080p no less.

Well, it's nice that Sony sorted out flash player.

What I'm more interested in is how you managed to break 4 PCs. They shouldn't break so long as you treat them right.

It was 3 over a 10 year period (roughly).

The 1st was back in the days of insane amounts of pop-up, when you couldn't surf for 5 seconds without some penis enlargement advertisement taking up the entire screen. Had a guy fix it a few times for $100 each time... which back then was around the same price as 100 gallons of gas. Until one day I just got sick of paying to surf for porn and went back to buying DVDs and surfing porn on the Dreamcast (not proud of it but it did the job).

The 2nd PC was for my 1st apartment which my roommates used more than I did and got a terminal case of "I don't know what happened to YOUR computer itis..." I still think donkey porn.

The 3rd was after I bought a $400 Pc... then a $50 copy of WoW got home to realise I needed to buy a $200 graphics card and memory.... self installed (not entirely useless). It worked pretty good for a year as long as I stayed away from the porn, but for the 2nd year it was constant keylogger hacked and blue screens... which for WoW I dealt with at the time. Around the time the 2year warranty was up it was beyond using... wouldn't even get to the blue screen. I was told by the "repair specialists" that I would be better off buying a new one and switching my graphics card to said new one,... and that is how I become forever done with the personal hell of my personal computer experience.

To anyone who says "It's your fault you don't know enough to fix your own PC". Well... I can't rebuild the engine in new car, and any mechanic that thinks I should take a course on modern vehicle mechanics just to get to work every day is a twat.

first one.... dude... take care of the damn thing

second one... locks, passwords, hard drive encryption, violence, hell go "on vacation" and hire an assassin to kill them.

there seems to be a pattern.. stay away from whatever method of acquisition you were using and carefully inspect the technical bits of each and every file from a suspicious source

i mean... seriously. and what were they, dell? compaq? sony? (im sorry i have a low opinion of sony, everything i have bought from them since the PS1 leads me to believe they reversed the goals of their quality control staff so fanboys would buy eight TVs and ten PS2's, i would kill to get a new ratchet and clank game today, but i dont think i would be able to bring myself to buy a sony product. regardless, im quite sure compaq hasnt changed their game and dell... well you get what you pay for, assuming you got it for free.)

The sad thing.... among my freinds I'de definately be considered miles above them in computer knowledge. I had to relearn the internet using a PS3, but I'm definately at the point now that I can do all the things I used my PC for without the worry of it melting on me (I keep "info" on my Idop memory though in case of scans)

As far as the last brand.... HP, can't remember the brand names before them... all of them made me call 3rd world countries where I can't understand the operator and the operator can't understand me, if that's any indication of what companies. :p

Kind of agree there, what on earth where you doing to those machines? It is a fair point, yes you don't need to know EVERYTHING about your PC but when you own a car you should at least know a little about it's workings so if something minor goes wrong you can fix it, or is this just me?

A few simple steps, Anti-virus, Firewall, and using Firefox (or at least something other then IE but not just that, Noscript add-on is a MUST for all firefox users i honestly don't see why it isn't shipped with it already installed) these things will ensure continued enjoyment out of your PC and maybe cut down on the porn? (You'll go blind :) ) Feel free to PM me if you get another PC i would be only too happy to walk you through getting this stuff working.

My point is yes you've had a great time with your PS3 and from what i heard it is a really fun platform even if it is lacking a huge amount of decent games right now. (flame me via PM with your distaste for that statement) But I don't think the problem was with the PCs I feel it was with YOU! Whatever electronic or mechanical goods you own it is always worth while to know a little bit about them, not huge amount but a little bit, in the long run it will cost you less and hey, you learn something new and that can't be bad now can it?

I will respectfully disagree that you can't do EVERYTHING on a PS3 that you can do on a PC, but I'm glad you can watch movies on it now.

To anyone who still wishes to believe there is a shortage of quality titles on the PS3: kindly stop the nonsense. There are at least a dozen essential games and a further two dozen which most reasonable gamers would enjoy. A lack of decent games is not a valid excuse for avoiding PS3; current cost, on the other hand, is.
This. Also because Nintendo is following the path of disruption! (Birdman article. Read it)

Agreed there are some good titles (Wipeout HD and Little Big Planet are two i'm very interested in) on the the ps3 but it's hardly the catalogue of the 360 or even the PC now is it? The addition of a Blu-Ray player means nothing to most of us who understand that the general trend for media companies appears to be through digital distribution so that is hardly a selling point either. They've lost some very big titles to the xbox and have lost ALOT of ground repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot. Which is a shame because because it has alot of potential. Alot of the developers aren't happy with it either. It's NOT just about the cost that is not the only reason for it's rather lackluster adoption, it simply DOESN'T have the catalogue of games it should have, it doesn't have as wide a developer base as other formats. These are not just things people use to flame ps3 owner to make them feel bad they are facts. I mean no real offense (after all this is the internet and it isn't serious business) and i truely hope that some of the optimistic things i've been hearing to come be and sony manage to grab back some of the market from the others as I for one do not want to see a console scene with only two big consoles, one catering to the family and casual gamers and the other to the rest of us, especially when one of those companies is microsoft. SONY, BUCK UP YOUR IDEAS!
