I find it pretty annoying, as I quite like being able to take games round to a mate's house without worrying whether or not the case is going to get smashed up in my bag...

They look kinda cool, though.

I don't care about the case as much as the little knob thing the games sit on.

On the newer ones, I'm scared I'm going to snap the disc in two because it's wedged on so tight.
God I always worry about it.

They're meant to be better for the environment, using 30% less plastic or some such thing. Read about it on Joystiq. Seems a permanent change.

Who cares about the box? Your game's not even going to be in it, most of the time, and by the time it goes back, you're done with it.

Unless you're the type of gamer who purchases a new game and actually plays it continuously after getting all attainable achievements, in which case, I salute you.

There was an article, it was done to reduce plastic usage. I admit they feel different, when holding my wrapped copy of Modern Warfare 2 I wasn't sure that it was a game since the case was so flimsy. Still, there's virtually no worry of the game breaking due to a flimsy case, if you've ever tried breaking a CD or DVD, you'll know it takes a pretty decent amount of force to break one. Like using both hands and twisting it to a 90 degree angle, a small knob isn't going to hurt it. It's a very durable medium. I'm not a huge eco-nazi, but it uses fewer materials, and it's just as durable. No real problem there.

I hate that too. It took me 3-5 minutes trying to get Arkham Asylum out of the case (I rented it) because every time I tried it looked like the disk was going to snap.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
so tempting to go to a store and just knife all the cases to scratch up the games

I think this is an America thing. I bought Dragon Age for 360 last month and got Assassin's Creed 2 on Friday, both didn't have that sort of case.

I bought a bluray a few days ago that had the holes on both sides but the ones on the front were shaped like the recycle symbol.

Everything's gotten all cheap and reduced lately. Some are doing it to cut costs, others to "help the environment". It's not just limited to DVDs and so on, I remember when Hot Wheels and Tonka trucks were made of metal, the only plastic on them was the wheels. Now though, it's all plastic and rather cheap plastic at that. Regardless, it's here to stay, so I don't hink we have much choice but to get used to it. I'm just going to make sure that my 1987 vintage Tonka dumptruck is okay for me to give to any future kids of mine so I can say "See what Daddy used to play with when he was a kid? You couldn't break those with a sledgehammer".

The tabs are nice and that is all that matters. Although I gotta say it is threads like this that make me ashamed to call myself a gamer.
