Trade in your games? That would be like trading in your porn man.

Ask yourself, would you buy second-hand porn?

I do it for the collection on my shelves, it can only grow, not change
Yes... collections... *Gazes at the 70 sets of disks sitting on his PC gaming shelf* I must have 150 PC games , including my Steam ones (but not including I don't have in my room, so perhaps 50 more there). I think perhaps 5 of them are second hand, and only because they were given to me by a friend.
Maybe a montage of game collections should be made...

i do know a few pack rat game hounds like you tho (no offense), and its kind of funny to watch them as they can't buy new games and they stress out about what they are getting because they dont have as much money due to only buying things new and never trading in, while im enjoying 4-5 games at a time, they can only do one, and do that one game for a month or two
None taken. I, however, don't mind not having the money to buy new games all the time. I've got enough games to play through for the time being and there's only games like Supreme Commander 2, Dawn of War II Chaos Rising and Dragon Age: Origins Awakening that I'm interested in, and to be honest, I can wait for them since I need to upgrade my graphics card.

On another note, I have noted that some places are really picky about traded in PC games. Game won't do it anymore full stop, and GameStation's staff are usually wise to any specific DRM on the disks, but CEX isn't... odd

I trade in. I do it only when I am sure that I will find no additional playing value from a game. I then can use my store credit to buy new/used games. It is a nice cycle and I still keep the games that are near and dear to my heart.

I didn't buy games preowned until I worked at a gamestore. After that I just started seeing games as disposable discs. Now I hardly buy at all, just use gamefly.

I never sell my old games - even games that I didn't like, but I almost always buy used. I've only had a problem once when I bought FFXII used. The disc was scratched, so I returned it and they didn't have any used copies left so I got a new copy (special edition, too!) instead! =D

i do understand your case though..thats one problem with pc games, its hard to sell them back due to game places being stingy about it, thats why im picky as hell about what pc games i buy, but the 8-10 pc games i do have in my possession at the moment i love to have and turn them on once in a while

im hoping this summer i can upgrade my pc back at home into a beast while working construction (make some fucking bank), so i might buy some more games then once i have the hardware to do it

You are lucky sir, that you have not bought a game and then realized it was not worth keeping. Also some people just need the money and say, "hey, I can keep Soul Caliber 1 for keep sake, or I can turn it and 3 other games in and get 7.50 towards some new game."

I trade in pretty much every game i complete, if it has no replay value to you as its owner then why keep it on a shelf collecting dust when you could sell it and get a new game that you will actually play?

Although I never trade my games into Game or GamesStation or any of those stores simply because they rip you off, they sell it for like double the money they gave you! i sell my games on sites like ebay where you get a much fairer deal, I know its supposedly 'bad for the industry' but its kind of hard to care when times are tough and prices are high. Pre owned games are the only way a lot of us can afford to keep gaming at any decent rate so long may it live i say!!

I've never traded in a single game, actually. I tend to be very judicious with my game purchasing, so I've never really bought anything I regret buying. Also, the fact that my Gamestop doesn't accept PC games as trade ins for some bullshit reason (reason given by girl at cash desk: Because the, uh... pirates, can...uh, put virus's, on the....er...games...and that can negatively....the....erm....resale value...) means I probably wouldn't be able to anyway.
I actually just traded in a boatload of old dust-collecting DS games and got quite a lot of credit for it. I'm not playing them, I'm not going to give them away, so what are you gonna do? It's a good way to get credit for the money you put into the industry.

I would have traded in my Pink PSP-1000 but they wouldn't take it as it's a Japanese system so I'm trying to sell it privately instead. (Pink is my favorite color, shut up.) If they'd have taken it, I probably would have done that...

While I have NEVER sold one of my used games, I have bought pre-owned games. Sometimes it's because getting it new is simply not an option (e.g. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem and Silent Hill) and other times it's because of the price (e.g. I'm not going to pay £40 for MAG since it's not a game that currently appeals to me much, however I'd be content paying £25 for a pre-owned version of the game).

I also never buy used PC games. Just because I buy most of my PC games on Steam and most PC games these days have lots of horrible coding systems to prevent pirates and second-hand buying (e.g. Spore).

how dare you question an expert's opinion? think of the minutes of training she's had!

i've traded in rainbow 6 vegas 2 for a copy of far cry 2 on 360. vegas looked good but i got it with the 360 and knew i'd never play it.
Yeah, we are the experts! How dare you question such an obviously well trained and totally not uninformed till monkey. You should see the training DVDs we get given. They're... uh... awesome.

I don't get the problem with preowned games. Half the time no one has played them anyway and if you think it'll be scratched you just make sure they show you the disk before you buy it.

I got £5 off Bad company 2 today (and some lovely staff discount) because I bought it preowned. Damn thing hadn't even been opened.

I just don't understand people like the OP. I don't understand the point of hanging onto games. Once I am done with a game I move on. And either it can sit there and collect dust and take up real estate or I can take it to a store and get some of my investment back for a new game.

I do love the new game smell though so I always try to buy new whenever possible.

GAME? Bought a 360, didn't want Forza or BFBC2, so they got traded in for something they *did* want? (or the GC to keep your targets up?)

Baldur's Gate is a game made way back from 1998 that once in a while, I play through it again. Doesn't matter if I complete it, I just play it. Diablo II I often pick up, install and go hack up some zombies and kick some daemon ass. Starlancer is a game that I can jump back into, even though it's about ten years old. Even a game that I didn't particularly enjoy, such as Halo 3, I replayed just recently because I felt like it, and playing it coop with my brother made the experience more enjoyable than if I'd played it solo. If I only had Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 I'd be a very sad person, because I'd know I'll eventually get rid of them, no matter how much I enjoyed them, for Halo Reach and Gears of War 3. I'd never be able to pick up either of those two games again to replay them because, quite simply, I'd have sold them to get the newest and "best".

I never ever get rid of games that I like. I want to have them so I can play them when the opportunity for some classic fun comes up.

I have never traded in a game, even though I buy a lot of preowned games. The reason I don't trade games in is because I once went into Game with a friend of mine as he wanted to trade in some games, and they asked him for ID, which he didn't have on him. He had to wait while his flat mate got his ID and give it to him, otherwise they wouldn't accept his games just in case he stole them or something. I don't like the thought of being treated like a criminal even though I am sure that many games shops that trade pre owned games have had this problem.

That makes no sense. How does ID prove that you did or didn't steal a game? What next, we're going to need ID to use a bus pass because we might have stolen that too? *Shakes head*

I know, I didn't understand it either. It was because of that that most of my friends don't bother trading in games. You don't get that much money for traded in games anyway, so its ultimately pointless.
