It's a legal thing.Alucard 11189 said:I know, I didn't understand it either. It was because of that that most of my friends don't bother trading in games. You don't get that much money for traded in games anyway, so its ultimately pointless.Darmort said:That makes no sense. How does ID prove that you did or didn't steal a game? What next, we're going to need ID to use a bus pass because we might have stolen that too? *Shakes head*Alucard 11189 said:I have never traded in a game, even though I buy a lot of preowned games. The reason I don't trade games in is because I once went into Game with a friend of mine as he wanted to trade in some games, and they asked him for ID, which he didn't have on him. He had to wait while his flat mate got his ID and give it to him, otherwise they wouldn't accept his games just in case he stole them or something. I don't like the thought of being treated like a criminal even though I am sure that many games shops that trade pre owned games have had this problem.
Yeah, that but with a PS3, but how do you know what our targets are? I smell conspiracy!!Mehall said:GAME? Bought a 360, didn't want Forza or BFBC2, so they got traded in for something they *did* want? (or the GC to keep your targets up?)Erja_Perttu said:I got £5 off Bad company 2 today (and some lovely staff discount) because I bought it preowned. Damn thing hadn't even been opened.
I work for them myself! It's hardly conspiracy.Erja_Perttu said:Yeah, that but with a PS3, but how do you know what our targets are? I smell conspiracy!!Mehall said:GAME? ...
I guess I'll have to call off the ninjas then.
Now that makes sense of it...Mehall said:It's a legal thing.
We take the details so that if the police were to come to us and ask us who traded something in or if such and such person traded something in, then we can comply. I've never heard of it being done, but in the UK it's forced by the government, and you also need to be over 16 for cash out the store (some stores insist on over 18).
I'd imagine it's the same in the US.
Remember: Us till monkeys don't make the rules, and if we bend them, we can get in big trouble.
(Example: there's paperwork to be done matching up all trade-ins/refunds with the names and everything listed and... it's complicated but basically it's checked minimum of daily.)
Granted, GAME only ask for actual ID if you're wanting cash, but even for credit we require to take your details and as I said, store policy or laws in your area may vary.
I usually wait for games to go down. Dragon Age: Origins was one exception, but Left 4 Dead 2 I picked up for £20.x0ny said:98% of the games I buy are second hand, it's just not worth the 40GBP (77USD) price tag. There are exceptions of course, such as FF13, which I paid 35GBP (68USD) for, because I'm such a huge fan. You'll be surprised, there are some people who treat their games extremely well, as well as you or even better than you. Worst case scenario is the manual smells of cigarette smoke and the disk is so scratched but still playable. At least if the scratch is so deep that it's unplayable you can reject or return it.
