I have an old Nintendo Power magazine with a letter complaining that Ocarina of Time is too photorealistic. Now, we look at those graphics and laugh at their primitive nature.

I can't wait to see the kind of graphics we'll have in 2025 to make this trailer look like crap.

How many dual core video cards will customers need to buy in order to see the engine at it's max settings?

I don't know why they spent so much time showing off the futuristic car. Really, that didn't look any better than GT5 premium cars. Cars can only look so good, scenery on the other hand would've been much much better.

and while i undersand ppls complaints about Crysis 2 looking like shit cause of console development, the only thing I don't like is lumping the PS3 with the Xbox 360 in terms of whose fault it is when the game doesn't look nearly as good as it should be. When games are developed multiplatform, they are developed with the 360's capabilities in mind first then ported over to the PS3. there are rare instances such as FF13 where it is the opposite, and it shows.

I think we should leave graphics as they are for a while, and let animation catch up.

Now we just need to get an MMO running on this, and graphics in gaming will pretty much have reached their peak - at least until we get holodecks and neural interfaces :)

We've pretty much reached a plateau in graphics now, so it'll be interesting to see if studios spend more time on gameplay, story and other factors instead. I certainly hope they will.

why do you all think it's a game engine??? Well it is, but this is aimed at animation, and not games.... *rollseyes*

That engine looks beautiful. It begs the question "Why does the Crysis 2 demo look like shit?"
Try running this on your computer, I'll wait.

Shiny. But is it worth going through another $600 console selling games at $120 that are 3 hours long, locked to the first person that buys them and incomplete without 5 bits of on disc DLC? Because that's the only way I can see the money for that being raised.

Because they developed for consoles this time around and didn't want xbox users crying about it. Additionally they dropped down its PC specs because too many PC users were whining about not being able to run it.

So basically it's everyone's fault. People complain about it being too hard on their machines, so then they drop the specs down, and now people complain about it not looking good enough. I think the lesson here is that devs should not listen to people bitching on the internet (unless of course, it is about a desperately needed patch or something of the sort).

There! I'm drawing the line right there! We get to those a graphics, and we're done. No more caring about how a game looks. Back to focusing on gameplay and lasting longer than the hot water in my shower.
lets just stop improving graphics its getting to the point where it will be more realistic than your eyes are even able to see.

as for consoles arent announcements for the 8th generation of consoles overdue? sony and microsoft are deliberatly dragging this generation out I think they even stated as such.

console owners are ready for next gen consoles atleast from microsoft and the Wii 2 doesnt count as 8th gen either and do we even need ANOTHER psp remake?.

Holy crap it looks like CGI and it's in real-time. Imagine playing free roaming games that look like that. Next step would be a holodeck for sure.

Another tech demo, yawn.... Wake me up when a PC game comes out using this stuff. As has already been said there won't be a game that looks this good as this, as all the eye candy will be removed so console players don't get left out.

It's all very nice saying look what we can do with the next gen, when you are not even using the current generation completely.

Going back to sleep...

the engine looks great but games that use it usialy control like ass (especialy crysis). Nothing breaks immersion more than bad controls for me. (speaking as a PC player)

One problem I have always had with tech demos is that they show off awe inspiring features that no studio ever bothers to implement into their games. We have the computer power for realtime fluid dynamics but you never see it implemented into games beyond tech demos.
Hahahahahahahahaha! (falls off chair)

seriously where did you get that crap? the best desktop CFD programs you can get look like thin glue rather than water, unnatural is the word.
Yes they would look nice in a computer game but unless the game would be a waste. Especially as the faking it methods of engines like cryengine3 actually looks better at a glance.
Maybe when voxel engines can be run at high enough resolution to look good we might see CFD as a standard game feature; seeing as the voxels have to be drawn and lit anyway the extra calculations to give them convincing movement will be a, relatively, small cost.

Do you know what the most powerful supercomputer in the world runs? Fluid dynamics simulations. It's far more powerful replacement will still be a very, very long way from doing the job properly.

OT, Can we get a SoC type game based in that forest. It would have been a better tech demo than that car.

Sigh...

Fool me once, shame on you...

Fool me twice, shame on me.

I saw what this gen was supposed to be, and it was a lie.

Just like Metal Gear Solid Shit was advertised as cutting edge.... I call you a liar next gen illusionists.

Perfect what you have already, instead of showing us the 'hat' before you pull out the 'hare'.

Filthy liars.
Agreed. There is still plenty of room for improvement in the current gen. Just look at what a little thing like "motion scanning" can do to a game without all that light shining on a warthog-like jeep. La Noire I'm looking at you.

All in all, I'm saying that reducing the uncanny valley feel should be a higher priority.
