New Devil May Cry announced

As speculated, Capcom revealed a new Devil May Cry game at TGS, simply named 'DmC'. They had said previously that this would be a reboot of the series, and a reboot this is. As rumored before, it is being developed not by Capcom, but by Ninja Theory, although three of Capcom's staff will be flying over to help.

It features a young(er) Dante...with black hair.

My own thoughts? I can't say I'm overly impressed. Though I believe in reserving full judgement until playing the game, this 'reboot' seems to have become something un-DMC. There doesn't seem to be any of the Gothic elements in the settings, replaced with gritty modern ones, and Dante looks completely different to what he was in the last 4 games (and not for the better, IMHO). I guess this is what Capcom meant when they said they were trying to appeal more to western audiences.

Sure the series needed a reboot, but the redesigned Daunte looks ridiculous.

I don't care much for the series; I mildly enjoyed DMC3 (I played the PC version which was a shitty port which detracted from my experience) and enjoyed DMC4 a bit more (conversely excellent PC port, but I didn't like how the second half of the game was almost copy-pasted). So I don't really care that they redesigned Dante and changed the setting and style and all the stuff the fans are hating on... as long as the gameplay is as fun as the others and there are more cool OTT cutscenes and camp dialogue that's all I really ask for and I will probably check it out assuming the reviews are alright.

I can certainly understand why fans are pissed off though.

I've not played all the games, but the redesigned Dante is a bad decision. He looks unusually scrawny and a bit feminine, and at the very least he should still have white hair so the connection is recognisable.
It does seem to have dropped a lot of the DMC vibe, but I can see an urban setting working. It probably won't please fans, but I guess the whole point is to find a new audience.

I'm all for judging things fairly and taking a series in bold new directions (being a defender of DMC4 and the newest Metroid), but this is where I draw the line. Fans NEVER asked for a reboot of the series. There was no point. They also never asked for an aesthetic and tonal shift like...THAT. Dear BUDDHA has NT missed the point of the series like a champ.

Although I don't like his new look in the least, the fighting seems about right.

Still, I doubt it will be better than DMC3.

I can't see the video so I can't comment on the tone of this new game. But I don't get why they've gone and rebooted the series. Why does everything need a gritty reboot these days? It's ridiculous.

Seriously. We need more of the DMC3 Dante, not this Westernised crap. I should've known they'd ruin the characters when they said the franchise was now going more Western. What else ISN'T Western already as of the last game? The difficulty setting? I bet that'll go next.

I'm thinking that this might be a totally new character, just like how Nero was the new character in DMC4. Still can't see why they'd do that again, but it makes more sense than the new 'gritty reboot' Dante that they seem to have now.

Can't wait for this to show up on youtube so I can get properly pissed off.

The only positive thing I could say about the video is that the weapons seem a lot more varied either that or you have a single weapon that could morph into many which could make for more interesting combat. Apart from that the new Dante doesn't seem to have a build at all, he looks way too thin to be able to kick ass at least the previous Dante had a naturally buff build.

It looks nothing like Dante, at all, I mean you can forgive the hair, but his face and body build is completely different.

It didn't show much ingame combat either, I need more of that before I can judge the game in a more clear light.
