I'm thinking tomorrow I'm going to test my theory that Oblivion (vanilla, unmodded except for KCAS because KCAS can't be easily uninstalled) can be beaten in one sitting using fast travel and sticking to the main quest. (and no, using the speedrun glitch as seen on YouTube doesn't count.)
If all you do is the main quest it should be easily done. I love the main quest, but would hate to hurry thru all those Oblivion gates, I love them, and don't ever finish the main quest till I've got all 60! (plus if you hurry thru it then you only get the weakest sigil stones)
I started a game where I am robbing every single house, guard station, and castle of every single thing and selling every single item. Just want to see what the total amount of "Flotsom" in the game comes to in fence money, lol.
If I really wanted to prove a point I'd type in player.setAV Chameleon 100 and see if I could do everything, from the main quest through the guilds and Shivering Isles, in one all-day run.
Lol, that would be a long day! At the fastest I can do one of the guild questlines total in one sitting, maybe start another. The misc. quests take a little time, but I can breeze thru the freeforms pretty quickly. SI is not easy to do fast, lol.
Ok, what if you start at one end of the map and go thru every single site on the map (chameleon), grab the loot and no fighting?
And here is something that is Awesome fun: sneak into the Bleak Mine in 100% chameleon after starting the Daedric Shrine quest. Don't kill anyone, but release the Ogres, the Guards will corner you and get up in your face; just keep running and releasing the Ogres without fighting them - then leave quickly without staying to watch. Finish out the Daedric Shrine part of it, then go wait INSIDE an Oblivion gate, somewhere near the entrance.
It doesn't matter if you are 100% chameleon, because the Bleak Mine Guards are coded to find you whether they can see you or not. They will follow you anywhere, and they are 6 levels above you. Don't kill any Daedra, just wait. When the Bleak Mine Guards get there, start moving just in front of them about 20-45 feet. They can easily handle the Daedra, so it is like you are really being chased by them. I ran thru 3 different Oblivion gates outside Skingrad with them chasing me, on the last gate as the gate was crashing I heard a sword come out. When the gate fell I was all cut to ribbons, and my health was almost dead! I started running and healing, and the Bleak Mine Guard was chasing me, so I ran into Skingrad, healing as I ran the whole way. The guards in Skingrad took the last Bleak Mine Guard down.
My hair was standing up on my head, I felt like I had really run because they are so determined to get you, and can take down any enemies in their path - it was a BLAST !!
And sitting inside an Oblivion gate when the Daedra don't know you are in there is Awesome in itself. The things they do when they don't know you are there, and also: when you approach an Oblivion gate from the outside, the sky gets red, and you hear storms; well if you are on the inside, the sky gets really black, and the storms go crazy, that is how you can tell someone is nearing the gate and get ready for them to come in - it is one of the coolest experiences, it's like you become a part of the Oblivion world, instead of being a conqueror of it. I almost wanted to set up a house in that tipped tower with the Hatred's Heart in it!!
You can also take them to Arkved's Tower, but you can really get killed there running from them across those planks, and it is easier for them to catch you in there.
If you sleep or wait with them chasing you, you will be woken up before your set time and killed.
Another thing that is fun in Chameleon is to go to Imperial City and cast Frenzy spells. Wait till a citizen is near and the guard will attack the citizen. You can run thru there casting them and pretty soon everyone is fighting eachother.
