So a new trailer for the fall portion of series 7 has popped up:
Curious what fans of the show think about it.
Personally, I'm really disappointed. The whole dinosaur thing and robots saying "We're very cross with you" seems really fun. But the turd in the punchbowl for me is more explosions and pretty much the degradation of the doctor character. We've gone from two doctors who always put the salvation of everyone, including his enemies before anything else, even at the cost of his own life to a megalomaniac action hero. Seriously at this point they might as well just give him a shotgun and it would fit with the character.

The Tenth Doctor drowning the Racnoss young? The ninth picking up a gun willing to kill a Dalek? The countless alien genocides performed by the Doctors in the old series. The Doctor does try to solve everything peacefully, but if you piss him off he will trap you inside a mirror for all entirety or crash your species into a star.

Yeah, the end line seemed a little bit out of character for our usual Doctor, and disappointingly this trailer follows the new pattern of having more spoilers than a Boy Racers Meet.
Ah well, I live in hope that this will be better than the previous series.

A few thoughts:

Old(but not old old) style Daleks are back. Hopefully they've finally realised how stupid the Dalek Rangers look.

River Song is still around. yaaaaaaay...

Weeping Angels. Again.

Overall I'm not too pleased with it. The acting(what we can see of it, of course) seemed off somehow and the whole trailer felt thrown together.

And no disrespect to the man, but Matt Smith still can't pull off angry Doctor like Eccleston and Tennant could.

I can't watch the trailer on my device, since embedded won't work. Would someone be kind enough to present a link? Also, about damned time.

... I really gotta stop complaining about my phone. First world problems, much?

You do realize that every Doctor is different, right?

Also, the Doctor isn't known for all "Happy happy save everyone" demeanor. He has murdered, attempted to murder, and destroy countless enemies.
I said the last two since I haven't been able to watch the original series (the DVDs are insanely expensive and incomplete).
That said I know that the doctors are different but with the last two they still carried the same overall theme, the war-torn hero who realized the destruction he has caused and is actually remorseful and he while he doesn't always succeed he still tries to save everyone he can and even tries to give the bad guys a chance. This new one is like "Amy is in trouble? BURN THE ENTIRE GALAXY! KILL EVERYONE!"

Why won't Amy Pond just die? Seriously I don't like that character.
Because she travels with the Doctor and the Doctors assistants don't die (permanently).

She will be leaving halfway through this series though, so that should make you happy. Mind you, there is no guarentee that the new assistant will be any better.

Not really. In Eccleson's first season he nearly wiped out all of the scavenging Daleks AND half the population of the Earth just to kill the Daleks.

David Tenant's Who wiped out the Racnoss entirely - genocide of a species several billion years old - and had dozens who sacrificed themselves for the Doctor's benefit. He also quantum-locked 4 Weeping Angels for eternity, and since the Byzantium episodes showed that they do age, the 4 DT locked into reality are pretty much dead.

He killed the Daleks again during the Stolen Earth episodes, another complete genocide - including Davros.

Russell T. Davies would sure love to give you the impression that his Doctors were altruistic to a fault, but that's three genocides, 5 murders (4 pre-meditated), and a dozen others who offed themselves for the benefit of the Doctor. This is just what I remember, too.

Seriously at this point they might as well just give him a shotgun and it would fit with the character.
Different Doctor, different man - sort of. Smith's Doctor doesn't shy away from battle as much as Tenant's, and he seems to have accepted his ability to casually wipe out entire species.

It's hard to judge off of trailers. Moffat is a good enough writer that the snippets shown above may or may not be indicative of the quality of the episodes, and the bits I found most questionable were the "Dinosaurs... on a spaceship!" Won't know until I see it, though.

As far as trailers go it was alright, but I've long since learned to not judge something by its trailer.

The problem with Doctor Who as of late is that the doctor has no character arc. He's still the same guy after every episode, this is coming from watching EVERY series of Doctor Who.

Oh, you tell me river song was a character arc Ill throw up. What a clusterfuck.

Won't tell you wrong, but I do think that Amy and Rory are the characters who have purposefully been given the arcs. The Doctor and River? I agree, not so much. However, I find it refreshing. :)

Sara Kingdom, Katarina, Adric and Kamelion would like a word with you, but they can't have one BECAUSE THEY'RE DEAD! Permanently.

True, but for Tennants doctor, he killed the racnoss AFTER he gave the emperess a warning to leave. They threatened to destroy the earth. And I should also point out that it was the meta crisis doctor that killed the daleks in journeys end. On top of that, the real doctor tried to save davros, even after all he did. Not saying that the David Tennants doctor was super altrustic, but he sure as heck was a lot better in that way then smiths doctor.

Now for the trailer itself, the acting seemed a bit off. And I'm not sure about the dinosaurs on a spaceship bit. But..... It's doctor who, the show that thrives off the bizarre and cheesy. So I'm willing to give it the benefit of a doubt.

Also, older daleks, yay!

Second also, I really hope they get rid of Amy pond soon. The series has become more like "the adventures of amy and rory, and their chauffeur the doctor". I'm getting tired of everything revolving around her.

Smith's Doctor is usually pretty tolerant upto a point, when those he loves are in danger he will go a little off the deep end, he dystroyed his whole race and the Daleks(or so he thought) so naturally he would be angry when they seem to be able to escape no matter what he does while the Time Lords (more advanced then the Daleks) seem to have vanished entirely.

He is a warrior, but a reluctant one, he allways gives "the big bad" a chance to leave, if they don't take it he will end them. Also he has seen so much and has probably become rather jaded over time by losing so many friends, family and allies over the years.

There were a few episodes a actually hated in the last series, but i still look forward to where they are taking this series.

Every Doctor is different, usually a product of the last Doctor too, 10 was a product of 9 having to go through the war, Tennant a product of The Doctor learning to move on, Smith a product of all of them before....old, wise, jaded, angry, vicious on occasion and sometimes profoundly lonely.

Amy states "This is what happens when you travel along for so long". And that has always kind of been the point of the doctor. He needs someone to keep him grounded. He is immortal, powerful, and alone in the universe. The best example was the episode where Donna never met the doctor and he died while fighting the rachnoss queen.

The doctor has a great deal of anger and he needs someone to help him sort through it. Maybe this season Matt Smith will finally start showing the rage hiding under the goofy exterior.

I also didn't think the highlights from this trailer looked any more action packed or explosive than another other season of the new series.

I for one am looking forward to when it starts.
