For those of you who dont know, Doctor Who series 6 begins tonight. And silence will fall!

Obviously I am a fan. But what about you?

Do you like it?
Do you not?
How's Matt Smith doing so far in your eyes?
Will you be watching at 6pm this evening? (GMT)

I, for one, wish 8 and a half hours would pass by so much faster! :(

Edit: Want to keep up with what's happening and talk to like minded people? Shameless plug is shameless [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-TARDIS-Crew]

I've never seen an episode but I've been considering it. The whole 40(50?) years of canon thing has been keeping me out.

New series you say? Will I need to have seen the rest to enjoy it?

I don't think you will miss to much by starting with this series. But ideally you should start with 2005 series 1 to get your bearings.

If you watch from the 2005 reboot, you'll be able to follow it. It's what I did!

And yes, I am watching this tonight.

For some reason I find myself getting more hyped over Torchwood starting this summer. *hears crickets; hides behind flame shield*

And dammit TimeLord, your avatar is just so mesmerizing... @_@

Thanks! I'm not British, I'm Swedish, so for me it'll be 7 pm. My mom's got British TV channels, so I'll be able to watch it just fine.

Like most revivals, they refer to the older stuff, but only in a half-arsed way, having completely changed what made them popular in the first place.

I just hope this time they decide against making it a soap opera (WTF were they thinking?) and get some decent writers and script editors in. With the exception of Billie Piper as Rose, the actors have been fairly good, but they aren't given much to work with.

Well this series is supposed to be the "darkest and scariest" yet.

Oh, it's not like comic books, only references are made to older series' and the fact that a lot of the enemies are the same. Apart from that, everything is normally kept within its own canon, maybe referring to plot-points from a few series' ago.

A) That wouldn't be hard (if they only mean the new stuff)

B) That's according to the people behind it, who like telling us how epic everything is, because it's alot easier than making it epic

Having said that, for all I know, they might have done a decent job this time. They'd almost have to be better than the last season finale, and the Christmas special after that was more or less alright.

I liked the modern Dr Who. I liked Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant's doctors but I didn't like the old series. I realise that for fans of the old series this was probably the other way around. Matt Smith and his writers seem to be trying to recreate the old series.

In my opinion in doing so they have alienated a lot of people like me who did not like the old style doctors but regained their old fans and I feel that they are edging back to niche.

People used to talk about it all the time round here for how good it was but now the people I talk to say they only watch it because Karen Gillan is hot or some variation thereof. Also the monsters seem to be declining in quality; invisible monster? Wtf was that about.

I'll still be watching it tonight though to see if Matt Smith/writers has/have changed their minds though.

I've joined your group mainly due to the past episodes and Doctor Whoof

Don't worry I won't over chat in it like the pony group :).

These past 24 hours have been the longest of my life.

I seriously need this.

(Side-note: There was a storm a few hours ago where I live, and I swear to God I heard the TARDIS amidst the thunder.)

I like Torchwood, I really do, but I miss Ianto. It just wont be the same without his naked hide 'n' seek antics.
