How do we feel about river song? I really don't like how she breaks the formula of assistant-asks-the-questions-the-audience-is-thinking-so-the-doctor-can-explain-what-the-hell-is-going-on, rather than doctor-asks-river-what's-happening-and-she-tells-him-to-wait-and-see. I think she's going a bit too far in terms of evening up the power balance, there.
Also, I've heard a lot of complaints about Americanisation of Brittish shows, and I have agreed with some past examples, but on the other hand the new series of Doctor Who is already an americanisation of the old series, and torchwood was an americanisation of that, so I think RTD is going to think twice before taking it any further in that direction.

I think that River Song is good in that she mixes things up by knowing parts of the Doctor's future, despite the Doctor knowing how she eventually dies. I think it hasn't been dragged out too much but they should wrap up her character this series. I'm cool with her staying as a companion or just in the odd episode. But as long as the Doctor knows who she is.McPulse said:
