I've never seen an episode but I've been considering it. The whole 40(50?) years of canon thing has been keeping me out.

New series you say? Will I need to have seen the rest to enjoy it?
I would say most can be set as stand along, look what is here look at this situation here etc etc. You may see old enemies that dont get the full explanation again.

I would recommend just watching it and seeing if you like it.

Do you like it? Yep, I absolutely love Doctor Who and i'm a massive fan!
How's Matt Smith doing so far in your eyes? So far I think he's doing very well as the Doctor and can be on par with David Tennant even at this point, he plays the character very well.
Will you be watching at 6pm this evening? (GMT) Yep, definatly.

Looks like a cool episode from the teaser. I'd like to meet the guy who came up with the idea that the missing parts of Nixons tapes were him talking to aliens (more or less) because that is fucking insane. Well, that's what it looks like.

Also I don't like Matt Smith OR David Tennant. Just putting that out there.

Actually I like both of them but the way they are forced to act some of the time just pisses me right off.

I am looking forward to it, I've got a friend coming over and we'll be watching it over pizza and drinks on my 50 inch telly.

As a previous post said if you start with the 2005 series you should be fine, a lot of fans got into Doctor Who that way, also Doctor Who doesn't tend to be as strict with cannon as comic books do for example so you really don't need to know as much.

And yes it is much closer to 50 years than 40, the 50th anniversary will be in two years.

Allow me to do this first. Ahem...HOLY SHIT FUCK YES IT'S BACK! GOD THANK FUCK IT'S FINALLY BACK I'VE WAITED SO LONG OMG SO EXCITED!!!

Sorry, had to get that out. Stop looking at me like that!

Obviously, as you can tell from that excited fanboy outburst, I'm a massive fan of the Who. Now then, to business:

First of all...yes, I LOVE it!

About Matt Smith, he's doing brilliantly. My first reaction to him was that he looked weird and his costume wouldn't work cause it look too old-fashioned for someone so young but...god bless the strangely-attractive oddball he made it work with one of the best performances I've ever seen. He's easily surpassed David Tennant in my eyes. Easily. Tennant was good but he played it too hyper and manic all the time. Smith just plays it exactly how I always imagined the Doctor would be. Weird, quirky, and very alien and very, very awesome. It's a thing of beauty

And I most definitely WILL be watching at 6pm and so help me god if anyone interrupts me they'll be launched swiftly through a window without me ever taking my eyes off of the TV.

Let's be fair, a lot of the cannon-breaking occurred in RTD's stuff, and Moffat even breaks his own cannon. The old writers stuck to the cannon a lot better.

Sorry, but I have to do this:

canon n. 9. the works of an author that have been accepted as authentic: There are 37 plays in the Shakespeare canon.

Do I like Doctor Who? Sure I do! But...somehow I can't bring myself to care about the new series. I don't know why, but I also couldn't really be bothered to watch the Christmas special. It's not Smith, because I love his Doctor. It's not the writers either, I really have no idea.

TimeLord, if there's anyone who can make me care again, it's you, so make me!

Do you like it? Yes I do sir
How's Matt Smith doing so far in your eyes? He's nailed the fun, carefree, bizarre side of the Doctor, but it's hard to believe him as the serious, emotional side of the Doctor
Will you be watching at 6pm this evening? (GMT), Definitely :D

I used to love it but its just got stupid. All the episodes bore me and the plots are just silly. I like the newer sidekick, Rose was just terrible. Honestly Tenant was better. Some of the scenes are so contrived. It just makes it so silly. I get bored and cant watch it. The monsters arnt even that good.

Wait, when Matt replaced David some new writers took over. If they're gone then I'll definately watch it but they're not then I won't.
Are they still there?

I'll have to catch up on BBC iPlayer tomorrow, but yeah!

I think I like Smith the best out of the three new doctors, but that might just be because I like the new writers. Also I'd have probably liked Tennant more if I hadn't fallen head over heels in love with him as Casanova and never thought he's done as good a performance since.

... Also, maybe it's sort of a bad reason to like it at the moment, but I love Amy Pond, she's muchas sexy, not just because she's Scottish and a redhead, but she's so cheeky and I really enjoy watching her. >_>

I really need to catch up on some of the earlier Doctor Who. I've watched some of it, mostly Baker episodes, but I feel like I'd enjoy the new series more if I were catching more references from earlier stuff.

Moffat isn't a new writer. He has written episodes such as The Empty Child in Season 1 which has to be my favourite storyline of the reboot by far. To be honest, I found the writing took a dip after season 1 and RTD getting the cast chased by yet another random alien got a bit tiresome.

I will watch it tonight but I don't expect it to be up to the standard of gas mask people and robot Anne Robinson

Love Love Love LOVE IT! Tennant is my favorite, but imo Smith is doing the Doctor justice and he's bringing his own into it. Tennant was more human in nature. Smith seems more alien.

I didnt really like the last series, I think Matt Smith could be alright but I dont think the stories they've given him have been interesting enough, especially after some of the later episodes that David Tennant did, like 'Midnight' and 'The Waters of Mars'
