Given the developer's speech before he introduced the game, I'd say there's no chance you'll play as someone who works for the government (unless they become a turncoat or you only play as them for a few missions).
thats what I ment

Really excited as I liked both inFamous 1 and 2. Going to wait and see for more info of course, but a new protagonist sounds like a step in the right direction (new powers, characterization, all that jazz).

Also, is it just me, or did the protagonist sound (and look a little bit) like Troy Baker (Kanji in Persona 4, Joel in The Last of Us, Booker in Bioshock Infinite, Snow in FF13 series, Jake in Resident evil 6)? Maybe I'm just used to seeing him everywhere now (Not that that's a bad thing) and have gone crazy. =(

Don't people realize that the Ray Sphere could just be built again or a less destructive process created to give people powers? They don't need to do anything to Infamous 2's good ending even if it was completely idiotic.

Also this kind of "Days future past." scenario is by far the most likely given how powerful Conduits are. Realistically it would be quite clear to just about everyone without powers that the conduits would necessarily come to dominate them if left unchecked. There wouldn't be any place for non powered humans in a world of Conduits. I really hope the antagonist in this game is better than that trash they handed us in two.
I apologize for this but im a real infamous fanboy. The Ray Sphere didn't give powers. It took the energy from nearby people and used it to activate the conduit weilding it powers hence why you know who didn't get powers while cole did

I'm pretty excited.
While it's not enough to get me to buy the PS4 right out of the gate, I have to admit, it's going to be pretty hard for me to watch that game get released and not play it.

I'm cautiously excited about the new infamous and I even think that the whole government vs rebel/freedom fighters idea could be really well done. I mean the infamous games pretty much have to have a moral choice system in place but now instead of good and evil they can do the (slightly) less cliched order and chaos route. Since in infamous 2 there was a different sidekick depending on the path you took, in this there could be the same thing, like if you join the government/order side you would befriend a good-natured, idealistic harvey dent-esque person who wants to make the government succeed so that he can (with not-cole's help) fix the problems from the inside. Then if you join the chaos/anti-government group you get somebody who thinks the only way to fix the many issues that exist (the beast destroying the east coast, the massive body count in empire city, the international and diplomatic ramifications of all of that) is to tear everything down and start over again (and then whichever ending you get, the sidekick turns out to be future zeke). Of course that probably won't happen but still, I'd definitely want to play that game.

But on the subject of douchey mr. not-cole, well I think it will all turn out well considering the infamous track-record. I mean cole and zeke were total assholes at the start of infamous and look how they turned out, I'm pretty sure that all that free spirited rebel with a cause stuff will all be just how the guy starts out and then he stops being so obnoxious by the end. I hope.

So... they going to explain why there's Conduits (or humans) in this one? It does kinda shit all over inFamous 2's ending...
If I recall correctly, they addressed in-game that there wasn't a guarantee that the Ray Field Inhibitor would actually wipe out all Conduits. They might play to that, or there may be some new, er... "strain" of Conduits that happens differently than the previous ones. All I know is it's taking place seven years after 2, and that I'm very excited to see where they take this world.

I'm a little disappointed that it's based in Seattle, instead of a fictional city. But I've never been to Seattle, so the experience will probably feel the same to me.

The whole problem with the story taking place after the good ending, is that everybody with the conduit gene, whether they had powers or not, died. Meaning, this new guy would have also died back then, unless that part of the ending was declared non-canon.

As for making the evil ending canon, the plague was killing all non-conduits. But it's easy to say that making humans into conduits wasn't the only cure.

Oh, well we have only seen him once, and he said one line (and it wasn't a bad line either, in all honesty). I'll wait for new media to be released on this game before I judge it in any way, but it looks OK.

I just hope they release it on both PS3 and PS4, because I'm not going to be buying a new console for this, no matter HOW good it is.

It does look like they would be going with the bad ending of inFamous 2 from what I can gather from the trailer. Red powers and all that. Also, did Cole and Kuo have a kid? Because the new guy kinda looks like both of them.
red powers could just more symbolic than anything...and also with cole the promotional material always did make him a little edgy

I'm not sure how ok Kuo would be with the "conduit hitler" thing...not sure she's stay with cole...that they they generally have said the good ending are canon

The one thing I always like about infamous is the atmosphere of everything. The story, the way the powers worked, the enemies. All of it just had this 'urban' and 'grimy' feel to it. I always liked that sort of story telling when it comes to super powers, and Suckerpunch tend to excel at giving this feeling. That whole trailer proved that this is going to be the case for the new game.

I do hope they give use new unique powers to experiment with. I always was curious at the practical battle applications Suckerpunch could use for new powers introduced in the series.

You mean the beast or the leader of the militia?

I liked the beast but the leader of the militia wasn't that great.
The militia leader. He was such a downgrade compared to Kessler.

AAAAARGH!!

At first I was excited about a new infamous game, but as many people in this thread have said, WHY DID THEY HAVE TO GO WITH THE 'FUCK THE GOVERNMENT! KILL DEM PIGS!' APPROACH?!?

...ugh. Considering how the trailer seems to indicate that slaughtering the police (who are only doing their jobs and trying to keep order) would be shown as the 'good' alignment, I'm hoping that if they include a moral choice system, there is the option to work with the government. I'm sorry, but this whole 'security is stomping on our freedoms' message is getting really old. Especially since I think it's pure BS.

The trailer didn't indicate anything of the sort. Secondly the security vs freedom debate has been going on for centuries and guess what freedom and security often do clash because there is often a need for a trade-off to occur. Look at the whole gun control debate in the U.S., the real question that people are going to have to ask themselves is whether they are ok with losing privacy with respect to mental health records. There simply isn't any other way to prevent people with mental issues from getting guns without granting people other than the health care professionals access to such records. Assuming of course that guns are to remain legal in the U.S.

Edit: What makes the maintenance of order (more specifically the previous order.) more important than the desire for people who happen to have powers to live?

Oh, I did find some tidbits of information on the game on SuckerPunch's blog

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/02/20/infamous-second-son-announced-for-playstation-4/

Takes place seven years after infamous 2.

the totalitarianism seems to be the result of a government agency swearing to never let the events of Empire City, New Marais and The Beast happen again. Its dedicated to stopping 'Bioterrorism', which seems to mean the development of Conduit powers, which most likely leads to morally questionable results.

Hmmm... We shall have to see with this one. I'm not keen on fire powers since they were in inFamous 2, and fire doesn't seem to have as much creative potential in its uses as electricity did. Everything you did, everywhere you went in inFamous 1 and 2 revolved around electricity. But then they might just be showing the "Infamous" side of the main character instead of the "Hero" side.

One thing I will say, fuck YES to teleporting powers. I'm so damn sick of virtually every other conduit having a teleporting ability except the Jesus/Antichrist guy that I'm playing. This is long over due.

In regards to the new guy's design... looks to me like they're going back to their original concept work for what Cole was originally going to be:

Does seem a bit DMC-esque to me, but then I'm hoping to see some evolution between now and when it's released. Cole has so many versions of himself it's not even funny. I doubt this will be the final product we get.

Lastly, the "fuck the government" attitude... Yeah, not thrilled with the anarchist theme. Don't get me wrong, it can work, but when you get into the whole "You people think you're free, BUT YOU'RE NOT! Airports make you wait a REALLY long time, man! Fuck the government!", I can't help but roll my eyes. The inFamous series always had a certain undertone of the government abandoning it's people or acting like they have control over the situation even when they don't, but it was never to this point where we were introducing the fucking MRD from X-Men.

But here? I'm almost surprised the main character isn't wearing a frickin' Guy Fawkes mask, it's so blatant. Overall, I will be watching this one. I love the inFamous series. It's fantastic. One of the best superhero games I've ever played.

EDIT: I'm just gonna say, if it wasn't for that brazen introduction by that guy about how he thought "the police were supposed to protects us!", the whole "fuck the government" thing wouldn't have come across so strongly as to be in your face about it.

EDIT 2: Am I the only one who was hoping that if there was any chance in hell there would be another inFamous game that the main protagonist would be a female conduit?

so anyway judging from the teaser its taking a different direction, more "watch dogs" like as you can see about paranoia and government controll blah blah blah...its also obvious that this is a new story with a new main charachter
......then why call it inFAMOUS?

I mean, I'm all for the idea. It sounds pretty darn interesting and I'll be looking forward to more details, but if the mechanics are different, the story is different, and the main character is different, then why bother with using the same name?

Seriously, is the thought of trying out a new/semi-new idea so scary to publishers that they can't even try without having to link it up to an already established franchise? I'm not even asking for much; something with a similar name like

unINHIBITED

unKNOWN

unCONTROLLED

would be in the same vein but at least they signify a different spin and show that it's an offshoot rather than a direct narrative sequel. Besides, the whole "Second Son" thing is incredibly generic and bland. it's like using re- words like "retribution" and "reloaded". There's no flavour to it

But I digress, if all goes well with the game it looks like the PS4's starting roster has a nice feather in it's cap.

I hope it's happening parallel to the main series.
This was my first thought, actually.

Considering a pretty hefty amount of time passed over the course of Infamous 1 and 2, with conduits going off all across the world, they could pretty much tell an unending number of stories about metahumans just popping up and how the world at large deals with it.

Then, after each game you can imagine for yourself what happens next through the lens of your preferred Infamous 2 ending
(How does the world react if your hero dies to good cole? How does your hero react if all his non-meta friends die to bad cole?)

, which I think is pretty cool.

I wouldn't mind if they went this route.
