Great so now we get to deal with human Noob-tuber's and Turian quickscoping campers.......

......Yeah that sounds like so much fun.

Behold gentlemen.....The Raping of Mass effect will soon begin.
Jesus, there hasn't even been any information yet. Just an announcement. Plus, it's Bioware, surely they've earned the benefit of the doubt?

Meh. Not too big a fan of Call of Duty. Hopefully this game plays better. Or at least differently. Otherwise I'll pass.

This would be cool, however, I still would rather have this be Mass Effect 3.
I would rather them make a crap game that ISN'T Mass Effect 3. If that is Mass Effect 3 then it looks like they are Haloing it up and who in fucks name wants that? We need fewer brainless gun-man games.

For those that know the ME universe Ashley Williams Grandfather fought a guerilla campaign to defend a colony from a Turian invasion during the first contact war. A game set during that would be eighteen kinds of awesome.
would only be worthwhile if you have th option of sacrificing Grandpappy Williams so Ashley will never be born :p

Sounds like it could be cool. And I can't help but laugh at all the fanboys who feel betrayed that Bioware isn't doing what they want them to do.

Mass Effect is a fleshed out enough universe that you could probably make it span across several genres (with the RPG trilogy remaining its core, of course). Why not a shooter? Hell, why not make an RTS set in the Mass Effect universe after this?

I'm glad Bioware is exploring their options.

I think mass effect is one of the best games EVER and the universe is hugde, so if they are branching out into other avenues I can't say it's a stupid idea. Sure a 1st person mass effect shooter may be strange but hay it may turn out good. Let's just they don't make a cart raceing game set there!

Cool beyond words.

I was actually hoping for something like this. the ME universe was just so bountiful that doing spin-offs would be a snap. hopefully they'll also make an MMO ME game too.

If they do this right, and by right I am thinking of something like MMO/Co-Op (planetside?) focused campaign I will definitely pick this up. If it's going to be a claustrophobic-frenetic-fragfest like the newer CoDs have felt like I'll pass (sorry BioWare).

Possibly cool, but I already own Black Ops.

*Edit*

You're right. They probably could do alot of different genres within the ME universe. I just hope that what ever this is, its not delaying the production of ME3.

After the massive disappointment that Mass Effect 2 was in my eyes....no, they don't get the benefit of the doubt..

I was hoping that they would go back to being more RPG-like with Mass Effect 3, but then they release this =S

Stop it, Bioware! You are RPG developers, stop trying to become shooter developers....don't mess this up again =S

After all that hype yesterday, it is so disappointing to have the announcement be a multiplayer spinoff. I hate this recent trend for all games to have a multiplayer element. I want storytelling and an in-depth single player experience from a game, especially from a developer like BioWare. This just makes me sad.

And jeez, their marketing people need to stop using generic boring white dudes in their ad campaigns. This guy is even less appealing than generic manShep. It almost looks like he was specifically designed to make me uninterested in this game.

Hellyes? Call me weird if you like, but I fucking love CoD, and ME is kinda good, although I was never a big fan. What's certain is that Bioware a quality developer, they'll hopefully make something good out of this.

If this doesn't go well it could will be very very bad for the Mass Effect franchise. I thought Mass Effect was one of the best games ever made and I'm quite liking ME2. A black mark like this on a such a steller if short record would almost break my heart.

I will remain optimistic. Bioware is a great developer this game has the potential to help flesh out the intriguing Mass Effect universe.

I'm not against a multiplayer shooter set in the Mass Effect universe.

I am against comparing it to Call of Duty. Please let it be very different from that monstrosity.
Exactly... chances are, the kind of people who play Call of Duty are not the kind of people who would like Mass Effect... and trying to have it appeal to people who don't care about the franchise to begin with sounds like the worst of both worlds. And please, guys, don't quote me saying how you're a fan of both games... I know that there are some exceptions.
I'd have to agree 100%. I don't mean to sound condescending here but Mass Effect is quite a bit more intelligent than CoD. Some people like that in a game, others don't. Trying to appeal to both camps is probably a waste of time. The ME fans will be annoyed that it is too shallow on the mythology (I couldn't think of a better word there) or the CoD fans will be bored with all the exposition.

I think the reason they compared this project to CoD was because CoD is the biggest FPS franchise out there at the moment.
I enjoy both COD and ME games, and I'm sure that plenty of others do too, as both franchises have their own merits. Different qualities can appeal to the same audience, and I have complete faith in Bioware.

Their scientifically-thorough approach will bestow their first foray into the FPS genre with a unique identity, and I'm sure that their literary creativity and polished methods of storytelling (let's not forget character development either) will lead to a game completely different to those in the COD series.

I for one can't wait to see how this turns out (gotta love Bioware's style of military sci-fi).

Ah, man. No first-person viewpoint! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.

Though I do want [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.245572-Possible-Mass-Effect-Prequel#8984712] a game based on the First Contact War.

Honestly, this speculation is probably all going to be way wrong.

Oh, wait. Multiplayer-focused? Laame.

This MIGHT work... sort of like the new X-COM game MIGHT work.

Seriously though, I feel like Bioware just became another victim of EA. It's like they are trying to convert Bioware into another DICE.

I personally wouldn't mind a ME shooter as a spin off after ME3, but please, don't focus on the multiplayer component, its really not what the world is about.
Especially if you are taking a monumental story like the Turian-Human First Contact War, which is a historical cornerstone of the ME universe.

Lets hope this is gonna be good, it would be a shame if its the end of the ME franchise.

If this game stays clear of the COD franchise and its way too frantic multiplayer (and hopefully becomes more like the Battlefield series with large, open maps and vehicles) this might be worthwhile. The setting at the very least is interesting.
Also they really should put an actually great campaign into this game, whether or not it's multiplayer focused. Actually being one the soldiers fighting for the humanity and not just a random guy fighting a pointless war would be good.

Yay, another person with no understanding of quickscoping is. It is a rushing style, it cannot have camping.

OT: Seems like a decent cash in attempt, I'ma guess it'll sell like hotcakes.
