Thinking about it causes my brain to short circuit. I shall ignore this.

A film like that being that popular disgusts me.

I don't mind romantic movies that much, as long as they're good. But that Twilight thing? Ugh.

This. After the first one came out I said to myself, "Well at least we're done with that ugly spot on entertainment history." I was swiftly told of the unfortunate truth.

How can such a travesty to romance be so popular?
Actually I have a theory on that, it just involves alot of gender-based badmouthing...

I have seen toaster ovens with warmer personalities than those on the big screen, its proof that shit movies with a popular base can = shit tons of cash, and is why Hollywood has been slipping for ever, because of movies like twilight.

meh, anything with lots of fans/advertizing/telling people it is cool will do well in the market. Twilight, Harry Potter, iPod, Scion, Halo, Wii, CD players, DVD, cigarettes, tapeworms, etc.

I'll spend my money on things that are entertaining to me, and others can spend on things they want to. I'm not going to tell people how to waste their money.

To be honest I really don't care, good for them for getting so much money. Good for them for securing more jobs for camera men so on so forth. Am I going to watch this movie? no.

Has the movie industry became worse because of this movie? I highly doubt it can sink any lower.

I think it's more the way teenage girls date. They chase the exciting guy, the sexy guy. You can be as shallow as a teaspoon, if you have a sixpack and drama they'll fuck you. And well, Twilight is EXACTLY that. What bothers me is, girls actually follow this because it's how they do things. They don't stop part of the way through with a "holy hell this is what I've been doing?" revelation, they just run with it as totally fine and not at all shallow.

My only fear is that the preeteen girls demographic becomes more powerful than the 18-34 male demographic.

I can't back up that statement with logic or reason of any kind, but it's just a creepy thought, mostly because it'd be just such a huge change to the media industry: what they decide market and how.

I dunno if that makes any sense, it's just a feeling I have. 8|

I think that's a good point. It's an idealized relationship, but a very weird and shallow one that's been put on a pedestal and grown out of proportion. Just wait till the female lead gets pregnant and the fetus gets imprinted with spooky vampire/werewolf powers!

We are in a recession, and yet people still manage to dig deep to really contribute to society.

WHO THE FUCK DOESN'T LIKE VAMPIRE MOVIES, HUH?

I haven't seen either of the films (and I'm not really planning on doing so either), but they must be doing something right for the target demographic to be going nuts in such a way...
