New mythological creature to get behind?

Myself and many others feel the "Twilight" and similar series have ruined vampires for the masses and turned them into some sort of joke. So any suggestions for a new mythological creature to support in hopes of it becoming more mainstream and filling our newfound void? I suggest "Ghouls". for those of you who don't know much about ghouls, they are basicly intelligent zombies that gain the memories and appearance of any creature they consume (at least in some versions). Any thoughts on that?

Dragons.

MUCH more interesting than zombies, ghouls, etc.

But if you want undead things then I'd go for wraiths or death gods probably since theres growing popularity for them. (and i dont mean just bleach versions)

The vikings from Valhalla. They are completely awesome!

How about all norse mythology it is really cool
Egyptian and greek are pretty cool also and follow the same mythology mechanics and layout.

I'm personally quite into the Titans mythology.

Manticores! Head of a man, body of a lion, wings of a bat, and the tail of a scorpion capable of shooting poisonous spines!

Pokemon?

Hmm.. How about druids? I can't think of anything else at this point, so that will be my contribution.

Dragons are not new. Dragons have been mainstreamized to death already...Eragon, Harry Potter #4, the entire freaking Pern series, hell, even the Shrek movies! I've even read romance novels centered around dragons (much to the disturbation of my mind, but that's okay...)

Not to say that dragons aren't awesome because, lets face it, they TOTALLY are. But they are not a "new mythological creature to get behind".

I say....Murlocs. Mostly because a) I can't think of the name of my most favouritest mythological creature ever right now, given that I am a brain-dead heap of fluff, and b) because I would pay good money to hear people rally together to the sounds of the Murloc cry, Arwlrwlrwlrwl!!

Also, Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftan sings a bitchin' song about 'em. That I can get behind.

Could go with gryphons too if you wanted. Nasty things to deal with.

So have zombies etc.

And no, not murlocs. Most of the population dispises all things wow and most of the worlds governments think its the root of all gaming addictions and evil. points to china* they've even gne as far as torturing kids with EST because of it.

There are many I could suggest. My triple favourites probably being:

Dragons
Werewolves
Zombies

As for the many others, including these sadly, popular culture has already ruined them. Every mythical creature has a "best selling series" of books painting them as a romantic figure, yes even zombies. I'm not kidding. I even came across a "were-dingo" once.

I think our option should be clear; VAMPIRES.
Are we going to surrender the immortal nobles of the night to these pop-culture perverts? I say no, we must hold the vampire steady as a creature of tradition and values! Eventually, Twiligt will go the way of so many others and the nights will be, uhm...unsafe again.
