Soon after, Microsoft and Sony will probably follow through with this "new generation" of consoles.

Can we survive another generation?

It doesn't matter who the consoles aimed at.
It doesn't matter how powerful it claims to be.
It doesn't matter how cheap it is.
It doesn't matter whether or not it sucks in casual / hardcore gamers.

The first game for this console will be a Mario game, followed by a Zelda game, then a Metroid game...
Nintendo doesn't have a soul, it will just release whatever is guaranteed to sell untold squillions more copies and make them even more rich. So they can rehash and ruin your childhood franchises.

sigh...this argument pisses me off, do you not realize this is what EVERYONE in the gaming industry does? Why stop selling products that sells, This is simple business logic. Why is that Nintendo gets in shit for this while every other producer can get away with it. hell, Nintendo has a hard enough time juggling what ip's they have already.
Nothing wrong with doing that. I for one love it when tried and true series release new games and the ONLY reason I haven't sold my wii a long time ago is to play Mario and Zelda games when they come out. However, perhaps this analogy will help understand why Nintendo takes more heat for this phenomenon than other companies. Mario and Zelda are a lot like strawberries. You see, strawberries are both delicious AND healthy, making them almost as perfect a food as you can get. However, if your entire diet consists of eating a bowl of strawberries every year or so followed by long periods of starvation, that's a little fucked up.

Well Nintendo might be set when it comes to money now they can afford to do anything they want now.

But like the 3DS I will wait for a price drop no matter how awesome it is

And now I'm interested. If they come out with something like the Gamecube with HD graphics more memory and even better games damn that'd be cool.

Who wants to bet this new console is to the Wii as the Xbox slim was to the Xbox

I doubt it's really the next big generation, probably just an upgrade.

That said, I don't really care anyway, Nintendo is going to have to do something BIG to get my trust back after the Wii, it's like I've been saying for years, they fucked over their stable fanbase for a quick cash in, and now it's starting to hurt them long run.
I don't.
All consoles peak in sales and then slowly decline through the next 5 years. Heck, they're giving the hardcore audience what they want. They even brought back Kid Icarus. They have spent the last couple of years experimenting, even on the Gamecube. Mario Sunshine and Windwaker were both experiments, and the Wii was just a more drastic experiment. Try to appeal to a larger audience.

And why would they wait this long for the Wii Lite or Wii Plus? It only took them a year for the DS lite, and another two for the DSi Family. They don't upgrade their consoles like the other two companies. They just make a new one from the ground up.

Wow, so Nintendo is going to imitate their competition and go after a market they have no sway over and whose every potential buyer already owns the competitors' devices? Prediction: it will sell worse than the 'Cube.

At least I won't need to buy a Wii to play this.

Nintendo TOTALLY pulled a fast one on the competition...

Nintendo: "we'll be unveiling the new Wii Pulse Moniter at E3 this year, as well as some other things!"
Sony: "lol, more useless crap, time for Move..."
Microsoft: "lol, more useless crap, time for Kinect..."

*later @ E3*
Nintendo: "oh yeah, the Pulse Moniter didn't work out, so we just had to bring a new Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye, Zelda, Kirby, Golden Sun, and a new handheld with no-glasses 3D, Metal Gear Solid, Starfox, Ocarina of Time, and Kid Icarus. and what did you do Sony?"
Sony: "... we... made some motion controls..."
Nintendo: "uh.... huh... and you Microsoft?"
Microsoft: "we made... some motion controls... but we have Cirque Du Soleil!"
Nintendo: "yeah, that's nice, I'll just be over here, amazing everyone that comes anywhere near our booths. okay? okay bye."

*even later*
Microsoft: "Kinect is selling well!"
Sony: "Move is being recieved well!"
Nintendo: "Our new console targeted to the oldschool fans that's more powerful than both of your machines will be recieved well at E3!"
Sony: "..."
Microsoft: "..."

Yes it would suck, but that is why you eat some banana and pineapples on the side. Nintendo produces the best strawberries, why do they have to get into the banana or pineapple business? just go out in and buy bananas and pineapples from other companies.

In other words, if you play and only play Nintendo games, your are doing yourself a disservice of missing the other ninety percent of what the gaming industry has to offer. To me, that's a little fucked up.

Meh, if it ain't a SNES 2, I don't care for it.

I didn't really like the N64 because they still used cartridges, used a silly controller (and that &#@*% joystick that breaks down within half a year!) and you could count all the good non-in-house-Nintendo titles on one hand. The same issues kind of carried over onto the Gamecube, except they did start using dics - but for some bizarre reason they didn't make it compatible with DVDs! And then there was the Wii, staying behind on the graphics, king of the shovelware, bringer of gimmicks and STILL no DVD support. Thank God it spoke to the casual market and was backwards compatible with the Gamecube, or else the thing would've tanked big time.

So yeah. New console? Big surprise... Backwards compatibility with the Wii, so the thing will probably be able to work with the ol' Wii-motes (like the wavebird still worked on the Wii). Better graphics than the PS3/X360, well yeah, but one would think that kind of goes without saying. 3D compatible? It'd be shocked if it weren't.

I haven't really liked Nintendo's choices after the 16-bit era. But for their sake, I hope they get more support from third parties (and actually DO something to earn that support). I mean, damn, back in the day, they had Squaresoft, Enix, Atlus and Rare pumping out masterpiece after masterpiece. They had Shin Megami Tensei, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. It was on Nintendo's platform that the 'Tales of', 'Star Ocean' and 'Chrono' franchises began. I mean, they had the Mother (Earthbound) and Soul Blazer (Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma) franchises for crying out loud!
