I hope the Personae work like they do in the first three games, instead of 3 and 4. Always likes the original universe better. Really, it would be better in general if Atlus went back to the original Persona games routes, but oh well. Animoo kawaii daily simulation/dungeon crawlers make money, I guess. :\

Still pretty excited, though.

...And just like with Catherine, I'm buying this game on a system I don't even have yet...

Other than that, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was getting a P2-esque vibe in that trailer, in particular... <color=white>Also, viva la revolution!

That is the most stylish thing I think I've seen so far this year. No doubt the soundtrack will be amazing as always. I'll be breaking the pre-order rule for this baby.
Now, now. Let's be reasonable. The game looks awesome, but there's still the possibility of pitfalls. Have the social links or the characters themselves gone down in quality? Will the new mechanics be a welcome addition or a less-fun distraction from what we love about the game? How is the pacing of the storytelling? Are there any serious problems the game has that none of us could possibly forsee?

I'm definitely feeling optimistic about all of these questions, but it's really dangerous to jump aboard that hype train. Considering how anticipated this game is, I'm sure reviews and first impressions will be out soon to answer them all for us.

I'd really appreciate some elaboration. Persona 2 has been sitting in my library for quite awhile and I haven't gotten around to playing it yet. How do 1 and 2 differ from 3 and 4?

I notice in the trailer you fight Demons and not shadows...huh.
This maybe means the developers will redesign the common enemies you fought in Persona 1 & 2.

Btw, yes, I will enjoy it A LOT!!!

They're pretty much standard JRPGs and are a lot more like other Shin Megami Tensei games. No social link/daily life stuff. They also have all of the crazy stuff happening in the real world, as opposed to P3 and 4 having everything happening in the dark hour/TV world where only the heroes are involved.

It was a nice trailer. The 10 seconds of gameplay footage looked great. I look forward to playing it in Australia in 5 years time. Or not at all assuming it's on next gen consoles.

Aww, I'm so negative. I can't help it, all this hype turns me into Yahtzee Croshaw. I actually am looking forward to this, Persona 4 is one of my favourite games. But I just didn't find the trailer all that amazing. My initial response was "Yeah, it's a Persona game all right". Which isn't a bad thing, it's just not that exciting.

and i think the main MC is like what they were originally planning with Naoto, i find it funny he's a cat burglar... and looks an aweful lot like Pharos in that prison outfit~ ;3
That's who he looks like! I saw the dude in the prison outfit and was thinking "I swear this guy's in another Persona game".

though to be honest the moment i saw those masks i was thinking 'Joker is that you?' and at the end the MC looks an aweful lot like Philomon... so yea, i'm getting a lot more P1/P2:IS/EP vibes from this then strictly P3/P4 'happy fun time' :D
I'm getting a P2 vibe too. Which is great since P2 had my favourite story and characters out of all the Persona games.
watch, either he has a special connection to 'Death' as well, or Pharos became a real boy and grew up to be just like Minato, MC!swag and all XD

but yea, P2: Innocent Sin vibe all over this... i swear if they bring back hitler and/or alternate dimensions... oh who am i kidding, this is SMT... that's their bread and butter :D Thanks Nocturne~!!

I've heard in a recent interview that the creative lead behind this game is thoroughly going over the entire calendar year throughout this game to make sure it feels as engaging and entertaining as possible. And even if all the new dungeon mechanics we saw in the trailer are shallow and don't add that much, the fact that they added ANYTHING at all to the dungeon crawling should make it infinitely more interesting then the rather barren layout of the previous games.

Also, I don't really understand people clamouring for the game to return to its P1 and 2 roots. Those games were basically SMT games but in highschool. Taking away the S. Links and highschool simulator aspect introduced in P3 and 4 would strip away the aspects that made this franchise blow up in the first place.

Holy shit. I haven't been this hyped in years. I can't believe what I'm seeing. God damn, Atlus. You really know how to raise the bar!

And it looks like the Velvet Room attendees are a pair of loli twins this time.

Welp.

That's it.

I just bought a PS4.

Combat is also quite a bit more complex, with combat formations playing a role, different attacks having different ranges and guns added in addition to melee and magic attacks. Then there's a dialogue system with the demons you can use to make enemies retreat, become angry or scared, give items or recruit as personas. Each character has their own dialog options that get different reactions from different demons. They mainly share some overlaying themes with the later persona entries, but otherwise feel almost completely different.

Naoto uses a gun... unless you mean just the main.
I mean the main character.
I don't remember a Persona game (that I've played at least) that allowed the protagonist to use a gun.
And boy, he sure used that gun in the trailer.
Persona 1. All the characters used melee and guns in classic SMT fashion.

The epilogue in p3 has you use a char who uses firearms. Though it's not as much pistols as it is megaman-style gun-arms.

Sounds good. I look forward to it coming out. Still, there's no harm in giving it an extra day or two to see what other people thought of it.

Got to say, I'm loving the look of this game. I was a little unimpressed with the first trailer, given that it showed almost nothing, but it looks like they're going for something really different with the game. I'm glad to see they're not just treading familiar ground

This is a ps3 game being ported to ps4 so you won't need the ps4 to enjoy it. Though it doesn't hurt to have one....Disgaea 5 is out in like a month and a half!

The twins don't have eye patches, if you pause you can see they have both eyes its just dramatic lighting.
Well thanks to pausing that bit I noticed one of them has her hair in a braid while the other is sporting a bun. I wonder what their boss fight will be like O.O

-the cat uses a rolling pin as a weapon, I wonder if the MC will be able to do that?
Pause at 1:58. They are clearly wearing eye-patches on their models.
Also the cat uses a giant slingshot. Pause at 2:06 where they start the All-Out attack.
My apologies, didn't see that. Its just that when you first see them you can see some blue outlines that look like eyes on what I guess are their eyepatches.

Also about the slingshot, yes the cat uses it initially but then it switches it out for a cutlass in the following scene. Perhaps a new gameplay mechanic at work?
If I had to hanker a guess, now that guns are back into play, I'm assuming they will work much like guns do in most other SMT games, and take up a separate slot from the melee weapons

Operating on that train of thought, my guess is the slingshot is the cat's gun, and the cutlass is the melee attack

Things I found interesting:
1. Seems to have only a cast of 4 characters this time, I'm looking foward to it.
Nah, I'm pretty sure they're just holding out on the rest. The whole seven deadly sin themes that's constantly dropped throughout the trailer heavily implies that there might be seven party members, each one representing one of the seven deadly sins.
