Sweet, those who wanted Blizzard to be able to do what they want got their wish, and those who wanted an ass got an ass. Can we move on now? To things that actually matter?

And the word gate is fucking dead.

How did it look seductive? She's literally just standing. Doing nothing...but standing. I don't get it.
Have you even seen a parody of a runway model? The body language on that pose isn't subtle in the slightest.

Note, this picture is of a model with her legs less spread. Literally the first result for runway model pose.

If you want to spin it that way, go ahead. But something tells me Blizzard has been laughing their heads off non-stop for a few days.
The first thing I really noticed about the pose, is that Tracer's calf clips into her thigh, that the mesh at her knee is a bit distorted, and the pose isn't rotated enough on the Y-axis to hide it well. That indicates a slight lack of polish, which tells me Blizzard likely didn't intend this to be the end product, but created and added it after seeing the backlash to the original pose's removal. Considering the timing, I'm guessing it was an eleventh-hour compromise pose.
This also looks like a direct screenshot from a game still in Beta and over a month from official release. In any other situation, any lack of polish would be attributed to it being an unfinished product. Heck, it isn't even like finished games are fully polished. Why should this situation be any different?

Does Zoolander count?

And I've only seen the still shot, so I'll take your word for it.

Very Sailor Moon. I'm almost expecting a frilly mini skirt to magically plop around her waste.

Nice pose. Better than the old one.

It should, and so have I. Aside from her face, which we can't see much of and conveys little, the pose just straight up is a runway model sort of pose.

And another controversy that will soon end in a dud.

I'm liking this pose more than the one she had before.

I don't think it made much a difference, she still looks like she's about to go 'MEEP-MEEP' and charge off in no particular direction, leaving a very annoyed coyote and a failed ACME product in her wake.

Bravo Blizzard. Class A trolling. Those annoying puritans deserve it anyway.
Those "annoying puritans" seem rather happy with the way things have turned out. So in a way they do deserve it.

That's actually rather fitting given what I've seen of her character. There's more than a little Roadrunner in her DNA.

Everyone I've seen so far who made a big deal of this seems to be grudgingly accepting it, although the reaction could be different from others. Others are still pissed off that she's wearing skin tight clothes. These people are the Christian Fundamenalists of the left and are never satisfied so the only thing to do is argue against their bad ideas and laugh at them.

Yeah, none of which seem to be around here, who only ever said that Blizzard had the right to take out the pose if they wanted to. And they did. So yeah.

And the argument was around her pose, not her outfit, so I don't know why you bring that up.

I find it kind of funny how this probably the result of Kaplan getting chewed outed by his superiors and the art team probably threatening to axe-murder him for his response in that thread.

I've noticed it seems like Blizzard as a company seems to be split almost down the middle on the "New Age/Old Age" line. On the New Age side you've got Metzen (Warcraft)/Kaplan (Warcraft + Overwatch) who oppose sexiness and buy into the new SJW anti-sexuality. On the Old Age side you have Bowder (Heroes of the Storm)/Chayes+Dodds (Hearthstone)/Dabiri (Starcraft) and many of their art/design teams who support the older style of having and allowing open sexiness and attractive characters.

The Diablo guys seem happy to just be unnoticed and split the difference (probably thankful that they didn't get disbanded after D3's abysmal reception).

I'm offended because now I can see side-boob.

WTF Blizzard? I demand this be changed!
That's not sideboob, that's her chronal accelerator.
Okay, we officially have a new euphemism. "Hey dude, check out the chronal accelerators on that!"

I'm quite certain no one in Blizzard is aware of, nor cares of, this ideological split you've conceived...presuming one even exists in any measurable fashion.

Thank fuck this is all over, now all those people that were so OUTRAGED that the ass was taken away, their precious, precious round mounds are now back!

Seriously though, I kinda like the new look even though technically speaking it has more butt definition than the previous one but that's more just how Tracer's in-game model is rather than Blizzard trying to show more ass definition.

But seriously though I hope this is the end of this.

Really? It cannot be that this was the design team's intention the whole time? Just can't?
Considering that,

A: Blizzard as a game studio is anal retentive about aesthetic and visual polish,

B: Blizzard as a game studio is a chief offender of the "beta as PR, not testing" phenomenon,

C: Overwatch is in release candidate status and has been for months, as it's been in version 1.x since February and its release date was announced a month ago,

no, it cannot be taken as given.

The pose looked seductive and deliberate, new one is dynamic, fun, and flirtatious. Guess which sounds like a better description of Tracer?
Other than the fact this is an a posteriori argument cut from whole cloth after the fact and merrily dances around the chief complaint as originally levied, sure. Again, what exactly was the chief complaint?
