It'd take a magnificent force of will for RTS developers to break out of the Starcraft balance model.

But really, we haven't had a good space shooter or space flight sim for a long, long time. When I started really getting into PC games, you couldn't take two steps without falling over a F-16 or X-Wing game. I gotta imagine people would line up to play TIE Fighter II: Fall of the Empire. (Note: I made that up, because we can all dream)

Also, nuclear weapons not detonating in space. That's just a point of pedantry on my behalf, because I went to a lot of trouble doing the research on that one.
Let's see ...

Ground Control series
Check it out I guess, it's not as over-the-top as Warhammer 40K, but it's certainly 'realistic' in it's own way.

I personally think we should try mixing the underused Steampunk genre with sci-fi (cyberpunk w/e) and also alchemy. I think it would be a very unique idea but only if everything fits, big guns, good story and make it a horror. I personally take a horror game more seriously than an action game.

Some sort of open-world RPG based on The Book of the New Sun [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_the_New_Sun] would be cool.

Or one based on the Lensman [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lensman] series. It'd kind of be like Fallout, with the retro-futurism and everything, except instead of post-apocalypse, it'd be space opera.

Hyperkinetic shaped cold plasma feilds. Nukes would go off, so long as they jumped outta voidspace/accelerationspace inside the targets class 5+ containment feilds. And yes, they need those feilds for accellerating faster than the speed of light.

You start off in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and at the start of each level time rewinds. While time is rewinding you have to solve what caused things to go wrong in this area and stop it from happening. If you fail, you get to watch the destruction unfold, then you start again. No dieing but the puzzles would be extremely difficult. You can figure the plot out later.

I'd like to see game set around the collision of two (or more galaxies) Like our own, and the Andromeda are supposed to do in the very distant future. See here for a visualisation http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/galaxy/2002/09/video/a/

I'd find it interesting because the player could deal with it in any manner of ways, but mostly because I want to see stars collide, and it would also be a really cool setting for first contact, initself an interesting idea for a games

While the series certainly wasn't great, i'd really like to have a Game with the Basic Premise of "Sliders".

For those who don't know what i mean: Due to some freak experiment accident you and some strangers and friends are thrown into an alternate universe. Same time, same place, but always different rules and civilisational stages, like one universe in wich earth is conquered by the Sovjets, another one where a virus has killed most of civilisation, another where earth is still like the middle ages, another one where humans and aliens live together on the planet etc. etc. And of course, you try to go back to the "original" one

It should be a linear, but still open world game, as you have always a time limit before the portal to the next universe closes off, and to make things interesting, you shouldn't be able to travel between universes with the help of a portable device, but a stationary machine you have to reach (wich, of course, won't be easy most of the time).
And since the concept demands it, the Gameplay and Style should change in every new universe, so that the game sometimes plays like a shooter, sometimes like a stealth game, and sometimes just like a classic point and click adventure.

I guess it would be nightmarish in terms of marketing and financial success, but for me, certainly worth a try ^^

all the alien abductions were really to extract sperm and egg cells from healthy humans where they were fertilized and genetically altered to react to a pheremone natually emitted by the aliens forcing blind total obedeince to any order given but get this your not on earth your one of these humans raised by the aliens as a shock trooper for a war between two factions of the same aliens(thier empire is inthe middle of a scism) as it turns out the aliens are quite physically frail (a normal human can kill em with a punch) & humans are suprisingly one of the most resilent versitile senteint organisims in the galaxy.

well thats the premise im thinking it as an RPG cus it would be too cleche as an FPS of RTS.

fell free to elaborate or add more cus i dont think this is 2 shabby for somthing i came up with in 5 mins

It's the distant future, the year 1985. Humans have evolved into a higher lifeform and now appear as party balloons with faces painted on with marker pens. It's all very scientific and speculative.

The future economy depends on the scarce commodity of kitten's tears as they are used as fuel for the reverberating potentiality steam engines that power the war industry of the future. Your goal in the game is find new sources of kitten tears to save the (future) human race. Trendy people will love this game because it features futuristic steam, punk if you will, technology and others will like it because war is promised at some point and gamers love senseless slaughter.

The game is a 2d side scrolling action game where you control a brightly coloured bald space marine balloon that moves freely in all directions. You must fiercely place beautiful dreams on top of rainbows to make the kittens of the world weep with joy (or angst).

Rated M.

One properly based off Iain Banks sci fi rather than the bastard, hybrid child that was Halo. Perhaps altering the history of different cultures as an operative for The Culture or a linear, narrative based game set around Consider Phlebus. Maybe even a strategy game based on Azad with plenty of diplomacy and action sequences between games.

Similarly a game based off of George R.R. Martin's "Plague Star" would be hilarious...

Demonic Cats, Power Armor, T-Rexes, Assassins and a main character named Tug.

Such an awesome, hilarious story.

Use of weapons would be the obvious one as the title implies lots of shootan with the gunz and things blowing up.

Consider Phlebas could actually make a decent stealth action game but I'd like to see Feersum Endjinn just because I'd like to see a character like Bascule be the star of a game.

I thought of another one. How about a third person adventure game in which you play an alien that can morph into other shapes and disguises? You could run around Earth looking for stuff to take back to the mother ship. As you level up, you gain the ability to do more convincing disguises. The early ones would be really funny looking. I kind of like the idea of the aliens being from another dimension like on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so the ship could come out of some other dimension instead of from some far away planet.
