Sitting there doing shit all apart from moving your hands makes you unhealthy?

I am shocked. This is my shocked face.

I'm sure you'll be able to find a way around that otteni. I fall into that trap as well, as my freerunning is pretty limited to jumping over waist high things, or playing around on playgrounds.
Hehehehehe. I can just imagine myself at the local playground. Because I've never done that before. _> <_<

Or anyone who does limited physical movement over long periods of time.

It's just common sense isn't it?

Well, it's perfectly understandable, as both pilots and computer gamers spend large portions of their time sitting in a room pressing several different buttons.

I can see how that works....Out of all my gaming friends I know of only one other (besides me) that works out regularly.

They seem content with just sitting there....getting fat and lazy.
And we're all nearing the age that it's starting to show......sad really.

Oh noes! I have to go and play some football, right now!

I actually am fairly active, since I have to walk everywhere and often play sport with friends anyway. I also think that, as gaming communities go, this one is a fairly active one.

Simple solution: get off your ass and walk for an hour every day. Even 30 minutes would be an improvement.

"Video games are not sports because they don't involve physical exertion."

Holy shit, really? This guy just blew my fucking mind.

I game a lot.
I love me.
(The part about reflexes - so right. If something slips from my hand, i manage to catch it again. Always.)

I train freerunning. So I doubt I will be classed as the "60 year old heavy smoker" guy, since I got the stamina to run up walls twice the size of myself.

Unless, of course, 60 year olds who smokes heavily can in fact run up walls twice the size of themselves.
Not that I've seen it happen... Ever...
Out of curiosity, what sort of training do you do for that? Because thats some intense stuff freerunning.
Why, I'm glad someone took interest.

We often start up with a 15 min jog as we limber up the body and exercise our stamina. Than we take 5 minutes of stretching.

After that, we drink some of our water, and do some training that's specialized for the day in about 30-45 minutes. This can range from anything from jumping a gauntlet, balancing, training our mentality by daring some (often) harmless jumps. That is so you won't hesitate on jumps and stuff, which could prove to be deadly at worst-case scenarios.
I can think of many things to fill out the day, but it all ends with us doing some intense work-out, pushing ourselves with push-ups, sit-ups, and some other things I can't recall the names of. We end the day with stretching and call it a day.

These things often take 2 hours. So if anything, it should give you some strength.
That sounds like a good workout. Id love to try freerunning, except i don't live in a city so i sadly cannot.
The thing with freerunning is it's basic simplicity. It's all about reaching destination A to B with as little trouble as possible.

Technically, anyone can train it solo-wise. But honestly, It's very hard sometimes when you don't know what to train with/at.
All you need is to build up your body and find out certain techniques to use when you reach some challenging points.
It all can be taught out by a local experienced freerunner, or by a youtube video, although it is possible to do it alone. Just it becomes kind of hard.

Those advanced things, however, that you see on youtube...
Those people had to train and teach themselves until they became that good.
They also needed free minds, so they'd dare some suicidal stunts.

Of course everything becomes more easy when there is an active, local freerunning group.
I understand completely if it feels "out of reach".

Hmmm...

Well, while I may lack the muscles of a professional athlete, and while I may have the body of a 60 year old chain-smoker, my thumbs are lethal weapons!

I'm lucky, I game a lot, but I also run and swim a lot so I get the best of both worlds :D

but I can see how a lot of gamers don't exercise at all (especially professionals) which is worrying. Things like this are what spur me on to exercise as well as game.
Most pro gamers are fit

I think we all must follow their example xD

i dont get it it talks about obesity but says that some of the gamers at least appeared healthy but had underlying conditions without saying why

Well I was almost a fighter pilot, but I'm not sure that video games had anything to do with it. Or did they...? Either way, as a non-professional gamer I'm fairly certain that I get a decent amount of exercise so as not to be classified as a 60 year old smoker.

Did this guy do any tests on us regular folk? Like take three groups(no/some/plenty of exercise) and test them all on their perceived skill levels and actual physical health? I think that this study would be more relevant to me if the study had been on average gamers. I'm not saying that it isn't relevant, it just isn't as much to me.
