So, there I am, happily playin' New Vegas.

Just wandering around Freeside when BAM! Black screen!
That's okay I think to myself. No problem, just retart the ol' Xbox, no harm done.
But no! The save file is corrupt and I'm gunna have to start over. 10 Hours, gone because I, like an idiot relied solely on the Auto save.

Grrr.

Anyone else had this happen? Anything I can do to avoid it, other than saving manally regularly?

From what I hear, this is a major bug [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/8241-Experienced-Points-Obsidian-Does-it-Again] and apparently is affecting many people across all platforms.

There isn't much you can do sadly. At least that I know of.

I'm seriously trying not to play New Vegas until the patches come to PS3. It froze while I was selling stuff this morning. SELLING STUFF. And my view occasionally glitches and gets stuck in iron sight mode, even when moving around with my gun holstered. I HAVE A PHANTOM GUN.

But I've not nothing else I want to play at the moment, I've conquered Vanquish and Fable isn't here for 2 days.

Mine crashed because I accidentally pressed "C" while selling stuff on PC.
Awesome.

Yeah, I had that yesterday. 8 hours gone because I also relied on Auto-Save.

So, I'll be saving manually every twenty to thirty minutes, after every quest update and every quest end and before and after every battle. Just to be ultra safe.

The only game time I lost was because I shot someone I didn't really want to shoot. Forgot to save regularly, happens to the best of us. My PS3 Fallout NV has frozen once without anything lost forever, so I guess I'm just lucky. Put more points in Luck, it helps!

hm maybe the game likes me? The only problems with the game I've had is a crash every 6ish hours of gameplay and when it happens I've never lost save data or had it corrupted. as for your problem it's sorry to hear but I'd recomend saving alot more. don't put your trust in auto-save

Hey guys:

Save every 10-15 minutes with manual, and switch off all 3 autosaves.

I'm 30 hours in and have not had one single bug.

I wouldn't do that. I was watching a gameplay video and heard you are only allowed 100 saves. though I may be wrong, since I, myself, will go nowhere near this game, buggy or not. Just wanted to give fair warning, whether I am right or wrong.

Not even a visual bug?

I save every few minutes, anyway. It still froze.

And I will never switch off Auto Save on travel. That fucker saves my life. Saving everytime I change "cells" or fast travel.

Yay, only 100 saves. I knew I should have pre-ordered this game! /sarcasm

That's bugs in the engines - I wouldn't be surprised if it suffered memory leaks too.

That's the way, I play it - Miracleofsound.

Manual saving prevents bugs like this from putting a downer on your game. I say use two files for your save games and overwrite the older one every 15-30 minutes.

Manual saving might be an immersion breaker - but makes life a lot easier for you in the long run.

The only one I've had was when coming out of VATS, my weapon and ability to aim down sights will be temporarily disabled for about a second. It's only happened twice.

I've had no freezes, no crashing, no slowdown and no corrupt saves.

I do however have insanely long load times if I play for a few hours straight.

That is 100 save slots. I thought so too at first, but if you save multiple times in the same slot the number doesn't go up.

Edit: Why they think anyone will use 100 saves I have no idea...

Whoever said in the gameplay video is very wrong. You get a hundred different save slots, so you can have up to a hundred characters going at once.

I shall keep that in mind, thank you.

But really, you've not had a single bug at all? Not even a small one an enemy glitched into the floor?
