No worries! It was not the most well known game ever made. Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura was developed by Troika and published by Sierra, and set in a world called...well...Arcanum. The setting is basically a fantasy world going through an industrial revolution. It has a Victorian steampunk feel is some places and a D&D style fantasy feel in others. The plot revolves around the disappearance of a clan of dwarves and some prophecy or other, but there are some real nice twists to the plot to keep it from being a standard "chosen one fights ultimate evil" type deal.Josh Kurber said:Arcanum? I apologize for this question, but... what is that? xD
One of the really cool elements is the conflict between magic and technology... because tech is based on the laws of physics and magic bends the laws of physics, the two cannot coexist. Therefore, every society is experiencing a certain amount of angst having to do with the conflict between magic (the old ways) and technology (the new ways). Your character can be a tech type or a magic type (or a hybrid if you are feeling really adventurous) and there are a disgustingly large number of ways to develop your character... Magic, Crafting skills, melee, throwing things (knives, grenades, chakrams that come back to you), prowly/lockpicky. And it has more possible followers than any game should INCLUDING a "worthless mutt" which is obviously a homage to the original Fallout.
It has a loyal community that, to this day, is still releasing patches and mods for it. In case you can't tell, this is my favorite game of all time and I highly recommend you check it out. Seriously... I go back and reinstall it every few years. It is that awesome.
