New Vegas is Nearly Unplayable

So, I just downloaded Lonesome Road - literally like under an hour ago - and started up New Vegas. My current character is still in the middle of Honest Hearts and needs to knock out Old World Blues again, so I figured I'd do Honest Hearts tonight. Well, I start playing, not for five minutes, and the game becomes a slightly-interactive slideshow, and then freezes totally.

Well, not unusual - the game is buggier than Klendathu, so I just restart my Playstation and load my auto. Exactly two more minutes into it, freeze.

I'm aggravated now, but third time's the charm right?

Nope. It, too, froze just after just a few minutes of gameplay. I'm starting to suspect that I'll be creating a new character, if it'll even let me do that. Of course, that's about another thirty hours I'll have to play through before tackling Lonesome Road.

This happened once before, when I went to the strip. I saved my game and reloaded to discover that it was simply impossible to play anymore and had to start from scratch. Again.

Is anyone else experiencing this level unplayability? Like, the game literally won't let you play?

I assume that since you have downloaded the latest DLC you have already downloaded the patch. And since you are on the PS3 there really isn't much that can be done.

If you got it on PC you may have been able to get some king of fanpatch (although many of the game's glitches seem to have been written hard into the engine.

Which makes modding the game a nightmare. I gave up the third time a mod I was working on exploded my game because of that shit.

It's a Obsidian game running off an upgraded Oblivion engine, of course it's going to be buggy. That said since you are running a console copy, there is not much you can do till an official patch comes out.

I guess I was really lucky with that game. No glitches. None. I had nothing but fun with New Vegas and I can't wait to play Lonesome Road.

I've actually been bug-free over my last two playthroughs (and it wasn't bad at all on my first either, which I started on the week of its release). I have played almost all the DLC during my current playthrough (I haven't finished Lonesome Road yet) and still haven't experienced a single bug. This is on the 360 with the game installed onto it.

I have no clue what determines who gets bugs and who doesn't. New Vegas has played very smoothly overall for me since launch.

Naturally, a game is going to have bugs. New Vegas has set a new world record, however. Really, playing it is like holding nitroglycerin on a mountain bike. I sort of play a game-within-the-game where I bet on whether or not the game is going to screw up while it performs certain actions.

I have those kinds of problems if I don't run the game off my hard drive for my 360 (uninstalled runs so much worse than installed)

not sure how much different the PS3 is in that regard, but they'll probably patch the game soon to kill all the bugs that crop up with the add on

I just picked the game up for 20 bucks, a steal I think, and have a good 16 hours in since the weekend and the game only froze on me once. Other than that I'd say the game is amazing. Actually, it was a little under an hour ago. Weird coincidence.

Yeah, I've had similar issues, especially after downloading Lonesome Road. At least once I had to reload because of heavy lag, and not five minutes after reloading I was down to a PowerPoint-level framerate again. It's frustrating, but I suppose the fact that I continue to crawl back to it every time is at least a testament to how good the rest of the game is.

Yeah, I seem to have the same problem, though it only happens when I run into mobs of Marked Men. Tunnelers and anything else is curiously fine.

I play on 360.. I don't have problems, but I hear they can be downright, shitty. Best of luck! I'll probably pick up lonesome roads this week.

Key word "nearly", the bugs and crashes are clearly a part of the Post Nuclear Experience. Enjoy your stay!

I've never had too many problems playing on 360, even when it was brand new. Sure I had a few instances of enemies trapped in rocks, but it didn't seem to freeze anywhere near as much as Fallout 3 did. I did, near the end of of main game before any DLC was released have the same slideshow problem on a save, where I would play for five or ten minutes and it would get really choppy. I reloaded a slightly earlier save, and then deleted a bunch of previous saves. I have a habit of constantly creating a new save instead of overwriting so I had a bunch of 50 hour old saves cluttering things up. Haven't had that problem since, so maybe I was lucky but if you have quite a few older saves maybe clear them out up until just before the problem started.

However I have noticed since Old World Blues, my character will occasionally freeze when I try firing in VATS. Happened maybe four or five times in Old World Blues, and once in Honest Hearts. Never had that happen before, so the DLC definitely did add a new 'feature'.

But again, I've been playing for over 140 hours, and overall the bugs and freezes have been minimal for me considering the time played. Fallout 3 was far worse.

Let me guess... It froze at the Vegas city entrance forevor not letting you get in that way? The way around that glitch is to use the train at the Main NCR fort. Its dumb but Vegas isnt that important after a certain part of the game and especially when you have great DLC's to play! :0 with F3 i started a new chracter and did DLC's first and bad ass weapons made game awesome-er, especially winterized armor that never broke and huge DT!! With Vegas the DLC's are too effing hard below level 20! At least Sierra Madre should be tackled last.

I actually, the game never freezes on me when I enter Vegas. Once, and only once, it became a choppy, stuttering mess on a save in Vegas - preventing me from killing Benny and forcing me to start anew.

As for the difficulty of DLCs, I only thought Old World Blues was hard. I usually do Dead Money first, after a few hours to get certain skills up to snuff. And that's on Hardcore. Old World Blues was a monster, though. I couldn't sneak, enemies seemed to know where I was at all times, and they took loads of ammunition. I've only played it once and I'm certainly not looking forward to playing it again.

This has happened to me as well, I got a character all the way to level 22 in order to play all the DLCs again. I come back to it ready to pick all of them up again and believe it or not, the game wouldn't load any of my saves for that character. I had a back up and an auto save for it too just in case something like this was going to happen. It's getting ridiculous, I am done with New Vegas. I'm not asking for no bugs, I'm saying fix the ones that cripple the game for people.

Theres your problem right there.
Playing buggy games on a console isn't exactly going to give you the best experience.
If you have a PC that can run it(even on fucking low) then I suggest you use that with some unofficial patches. You would be surprised to see the improvement.
