You want DMG to blow through their armour, not DPS.
Hunting Rifles/Sniper rifles work wonders, especially with Armour Piercing rounds.
VATSing off a wing cripples their speed, although they're still ludicrously fast, you should be able to hipfire their faces off.

This game does a better job of showing you just how dangerous the wasteland can be. Alot of the enemies are much more powerful this time around, making caution more of a concern. I got raped by those Cazadors too, they're tough but Veronica is tougher. :)

The game is really easy on normal, just like 3 was. Play it on hard. If you die, try rethinking your approach, or perhaps level up, like the guy above me said.

Maybe a lead pipe isn't the best weapon to use.
Exactly.

It was the same thing in Fallout 3. Its the bread and butter of Open world RPGs.

So I've turned the difficulty down. Way down. They still kill me. So what are your stories of Obsidian's ridiculously over-leveled creatures thwarting your exploration attempts?

Edit: I feel like I need to add that I do like that the game adds these areas. I'm not complaining, it just caught me off guard because I'm used to Bethesda's system of enemies scaling along side you.
Well honestly I've yet to get into New Vegas but as far as Fallout 3 goes I recall my first time ever playing it, looking for a good spot to explore and find some sweet loot, I end up finding myself in ruined downtown D.C. only to find myself losing half my health with a spinning grinding sound following it, before I could turn to see it, my HP was gone and I was falling over, shocked and in awe at what had happened to me. Now, when I went back after reloading from the prior save point I found out it was not one but 3 Super Mutants staring me down from above an overpass. One of them had a huge gatling gun and they started screaming at me like I'd killed their dog.

I later went back when doing the quest to get to GNR headquarters and found those same super mutants kindly awaiting my return and ready to kill me again. This time however I was prepared with a rocket launcher full of love and ammunition. They didn't stand a chance.

I have leveled up. This isn't my first RPG. I'm a Bethesda vet. If no one else is experiencing this, then I'm wondering if this is a bug. 8 Strength, 84 in melee and my attacks are barely hurting them. Weapon is in great condition as well.
I'm sure melee attacks DON'T work on deathclaws.Too bad there's no alien blaster because in fallout 3 that was basically insurance it not dying.....well that's actually better because now you'll have to fucking WORK!

new title:NEW VEGAS MAKES YOU FUCKING WORK FOR COMPLETION,NO MORE ALIEN BLASTER INSURANCE!
You, my good sir, have not explored quite enough.
I didn't take the Wild Wasteland perk

For the eighth millionth time, you were warned at the beginning of the game to stay on the fucking roads. Or you will get your ass kicked. You were warned.

I crossed the river once expecting Lakelurkers or whatever they are called. Totally found 15-20 Deathclaws.

I wasn't very happy.

I was exploring as well at around level 15-18 and stumbled upon a sort of nest of cazadors.I tried at first to get them down with the hunting rifle then failed miserably, literally died in 3 hits.

Afterwhich I got really pissed and went there again and equipped my biggest weapon with highest dps/dam at that time which was a light machine gun I recently bought and just ripped through all of those bastards.

Revenge is sweet.. >:D

I just recently discovered Cazador on my way to Vault 22 and they killed Rex, Veronica and me about 20 times, in the end I loaded an oldish save to get past them. I'm level 14 with like 84 Gun skill and can't get beat them at all.

Incidentally, I'm level 14 and haven't gotten inside the Strip yet, not sure if that's how it should've worked out or not.
They killed Rex? How? My rex only gets knocked out.

OT: Cazadors rip me apart as well but I havent hit a part of the game yet where I am not capable enough to get through.
I'm playing Hardcore Mode, if that makes a difference? Everyone is killable in my game.
Oh, okay. Thats probably it. If my Rex could die he wouldn't have made it halfway to JacobsTown because of Cazadors.
I was just exploring aimlessly when I first ran into them and they slaughtered me repeatedly, mainly because my companions kept running right at them from miles away and getting murdered. I only reloaded the save because I couldn't seem to stop them from behaving like dummies. Now I just avoid Cazadors whenever possible.
They killed my Rex too. I hadn't
gotten him a new brain yet. If that matters.
I ended up loading an old save with him still alive. I told him to wait in The Strip, but he randomly showed up in the middle of a mission many hours later. And I haven't been able to find him since. That's just lame.

I've run into a few invisible walls, and a few creatures that I'm just not high enough of a level to kill yet, but when I run into enemies I can't kill or are gorssly outnumbered, I just commence operation GTFO and come back with a better plan...and more ammo. XD

Those fucking mutant hornets are the meanest ************ i have ever seen! I prefer Deathclaws to them. BTW, i have a level 16 guns/energy weapons/stealth character and i can't fucking kill them! I've tried AP rounds, fire weapons, lasers, plasma, HP rounds, grenades, everything. Nothing is effective. Plus they ALWAYS come in swarms so i die a lot. I was forced to take cover from the damn things in an old Enclave bunker. At least, i think it's Enclave. It has the same blue metal doors and weird look as they did in FO3. The door is locked so i couldn't explore, just hide.

Even the gauss rifle, fully repaired i might add, is useless against Cazadors. They are armored demons with wings.

I went adventuring north from Goodsprings at level one. I missed the Death Claw ahead signs.

I couldn't fight them either, so i just used a Stealth Boy and snuck past them.

I literally saw SIX fucking Giant Radscorpions at once. I was Level 2. I am totally serious.

Things did not end well.
Something like that happened to me. I got raped by a Giant Radscorpion during the tutorial quest in the first town. It killed one of the important quest NPC's before killing me in two blows.

Truth be told, because I just generally wandered in the presumed sequence I was supposed to, I had no problems at all with the game's difficulty. Hell, by the time I ran into deathclaws at all, I had Sneak and Guns at 100, sniper, commando, finesse, better criticals, trigger discipline and a fully upgraded sniper rifle with plenty of AP rounds. One shot is all it takes. Hell, at this point if something takes more than one shot to kill, it's because I missed.

Personally, I've had some crazy ass experiences in New Vegas. Also, I actually value the companions this time. I know I've come into a few exploration issues this time around that if it wasn't for Boone, I would have gotten wasted. For Example: I was trying my best to get to black mountain without going too close to the quarry with all the deathclaws. Well, one wandered his ass onto the road that I needed to go down. I tried to sneak past him, but it was no use. He spotted me and started running forward. Now, while I'm sure boone meant to hit it in the head, he shot out the Deathclaws legs, seriously slowing it down. I backed the hell out of there and opened fire with everything I had(early game grenade launcher is a sweet deal if you repair it) He still wasn't dropping, but all I had left was my 9mm. The Deathclaw was closing in even with his bum legs. He got right next to me, raised his hand to lay the final blow (I was already shouting "FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU")and then I watched him go limp and fall to the ground as boone said in a calm and cool tone, "Mine." Boone put away his weapon and said, "I guess it's over." and we continued to black mountain.

I've leveled a lot since then, I'm thinking about taking Boone and Rex to the quarry and running a raid.

They aren't difficult, you are just using the wrong weapon. Go with a fire based weapon. Long range is also a good option, as their poison can be an issue. The Incinerator is probably the best choice.

Adventuring the Mojave desert, carefully avoiding the risky areas I choose a path, which I deemed safe, nothing stirred as I made my way through the dusty canyon, constantly checking my surroundings for Raiders or other unfriendly passers-by. I notice a slight buzzing sound, I withdraw my Marksmen Carbine and crouch, carefully making my way to the edge of a ridge, below me are many Cazadores. I laugh to myself, "Haha fuck you Bethesda! Not getting me like that again!" I turn, deciding to sneak around these pesky creatures instead of fighting. When, out of nowhere, A giant claw swipes, I'm knocked flying into the middle of atleast half a dozen Cazadores and to my utter dismay I see a pack of Deathclaws fast approaching.

This, is what pisses me off with New vegas! I'm a level 20 at the moment. Using the Ranger combat armour, ( The armour on the case. ) And I still take a silly amount of damage from them! Let alone the amount a good swipe from a Deathclaw can dish out!

The levels of creatures compared to character progression was appalling for the first 10 levels...Damn you Giant Radscorpions!

Other than the occasional "OMFWTF!" Encounter, nothing really bad has happened to me yet, I can normally activate "Mountain goat feet" To hop my way up cliffs and slide down them.
